Are you preparing for the move into your new abode? Before you decide whether your stuffs go straight to the bin or into the mover's box, take a moment to read up on some uses you could do with goods you thought were trash.

1. Floppy Disks

Floppy disk drives and disks are becoming a rarity with cloud storage technology these days. So instead of dumping them into the trash, use them to accessorise your walls or as a stationery holder.

How about transforming your USB drive into a thumbdrive sleeve? This vintage item looks good, and you'll never lose sight of your thumbdrive again.

2 Light Bulbs

Extend the life span of an old light bulb by converting it into a home for the your colourful guppies or a holder for pretty floras.

3 Unwanted Text Books

When was the last time you flipped through your thick reading materials from your days as a student? Instead of chucking them aside, put these old books to good use by converting them into a shelf! One way is to stack and arrange those with interesting spines side by side, and level the top part.

Another method is to use a single book as a shelf. It's really easy to do too! All you need are some brackets, a drill, and a pencil. First, mark the position of the two brackets needed to hold the book's weight, and then measure its thickness so you can subsequently mark the position of the single bracket at the top. (Please refer to picture) Once the brackets are drilled in, slide a book in between the brackets to serve as a platform for showcasing your knick-knacks and ornaments. Make sure they're light, so they don't weigh the book down.

4. Old Leather Belts

When encircled around a wall clock, this leather belt transforms the run-of-the-mill into a showcase-worthy piece.

Are your precious paperbacks and hardcover books lying around in a jumbled mess? This DIY shelf makes use of belts of varying lengths to keep your reading materials off the ground.

5. Old Clothes

Apparels that don't fit should be given a new lease of life. Play dress-up and adorn throw cushions with your favourite pieces.  Nubby-knit sweaters meant for the colder weather are understated yet visually appealing.

6. Fan Guards

TRY THIS! The front guard of an old fan can be glued to the back of a simple clock to give it a fresh new look.

7. CRT TVs

Like most homeowners, the upgrade to a new LED flat screen TV is inevitable. Instead of throwing it away, pay homage to your trusty entertainment set by converting it into a cosy home for your furry friend, or as a cool aquarium.
