Hello Folks & Fellow Neighours @ Jln Membina
(Loads of Photos- Please let them load) Our renovation is finally completed! (Sort of) Took like 9 months to get it done. Hehehe...(Period = Dec 07 till Sept08) Not that we are in a hurry anyway (IMG:http://203.142.16.149/forum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Feel free to comment and ask qns on our reno path. Will be glad to share. Here are some photos of our house... (Pardon the different sizes though) (IMG:http://8xodus.org/bare.jpg) BARE-NESS : state of house before love and thought is given to it. Initially, we had wanted to go for Modern (no classic) theme/design. Baby/HTB thinks that the classic part is a bit too 'old' and expensive for us. Okay! Modern theme then. Let's see what's our end product in the later part of this entry. (IMG:http://www.8xodus.org/Door.jpg) Main Door = The doors for our house are the same throughout. Nice doors. Like condo ones, as I always say. Haha.. But hor, even the toilet doors are of the same pattern. (IMG:http://www.8xodus.org/Dining.jpg) How to eat like that? Max at 1.6m Length of Dining table. SIGH. (IMG:http://www.8xodus.org/Bedroom%20door.jpg) Yes, bedroom door. (again) Nice right? Currently top in my list of "THINGS I LIKE ABOUT MY HOUSE". (IMG:http://www.8xodus.org/Kitchen.jpg) Next, is our gloomy kitchen. Really gloomy right? No sign of sunlight at all. This post has been edited by saeran: Sep 21 2008, 09:03 PM |

(IMG:http://www.8xodus.org/Common%20toilet.jpg) (IMG:http://203.142.16.149/forum/style_emoticons/default/bath.gif) Surprisingly, our toilets are very big. Too big. Was always lamenting how good it will be if the extra area could be put into good use at our living area. We went to do a mock up of our dining and living area, ie: using masking tape to ‘draw’ out the max space we have. So sad. The more we mock, the more constraints we think we have. (IMG:http://www.8xodus.org/MOCK.jpg) Think I will invite only models into my house. Fat is out. So I can tell you, 不是我家小, 是你胖!! *** Some ideas which came up during our reno progress... (IMG:http://www.8xodus.org/FC.jpg) This is what I call epitome of Modern Classic. (IMG:http://www.8xodus.org/white%20cushion.jpg) This is what I want. (IMG:http://www.8xodus.org/dining%20bench.jpg) As you can see, the dining bench is a MUST DO for me. congrats!! (IMG:http://203.142.16.149/forum/style_emoticons/default/dancingqueen.gif) Nice bedroom doors that u have.. how much is it ah?? Hello Celestial, it came with the flat we are paying for. If you wish, you may show your ID/contractor the photo of this door. My friend did it too. Should be able to find something similar. Good Luck! Another MUST DO. MBR Headboard. These photos are taken off ID/reno magazines. I like the designs I see at this site. Very classic. First thing up: Our 'Gloomy' Kitchen Preview of kitchen, yes, white laminates. View of Kitchen from Foyer. Works was then partially done for the kitchen. Real disappointing that the laminates looks wavy. Yah, perils of choosing glossy laminates for kitchen. |

Work in progress then...
(IMG:http://8xodus.org/SCREED.jpg) (IMG:http://8xodus.org/FLOORING1.jpg) (IMG:http://8xodus.org/FLOORING2.jpg) (IMG:http://8xodus.org/LIGHTING%20POINTS.jpg) (IMG:http://8xodus.org/LIGHTING%20POINTS2.jpg) Aircon, ceiling and paint works in progress. Excited to see the end product? The base of the false ceiling. Living room cove ceilings. 是美的。 4FT box up at living room. Saeran’s idea. Made both of us **** happy. Makes the living room looks bigger! Aircon location at the living room. Too Long. oh geez....i chose a glossy laminate as well...aim was to have light bounce off them in all sorts of unchartered angles to make the kitchen look bigger...now you've gotten me worried. Hello honeyclub, you need to remind your contractor/ID to do a good job. Also, choose a thicker type of laminate. Thicker = More Expensive. We din't go for the thicker type then. That's the result. View from kitchen. Yes, my living room looks **** big hor? 哈哈! Foyer - half painted with Velvet Dream. Colour same as our MBR. MBR cove area. Dreamy…~~ We went to countless shops and numerous trips to Jalan Besar, Balestier... in search of the ultimate lights for our house. Very tiring and frustrating, when you see expensive lightings and wonder why are they so ex in the first place? Baby likes our house to have a lot of lights. He wants it to be a 'Lights Gallery' -_- Beautiful. Can’t stop thinking about this even as we went around 8-10 shops. I must buy this! Something like; “This is so saeran lorh!” Happiness (IMG:http://203.142.16.149/forum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) As our living room will be facing the afternoon sun, it is very important that we choose the RIGHT direction to place the TV. Else, the distracting reflections will certainly piss me off. Let’s get to the floor… Super Shiny floor! Saeran likes! We took a very very long time and effort to decide on the laminates for our house. Our friends actually took part in it also. Think this was during Feb time frame. Baby and myself too went personally down to the office/factory one day to take samples (big pieces) and talk to the sales in charge. Some of you may ask why don't you leave it to your ID? Well, we din't have an ID. We used contractor. Anyway, we love this process during renovation. Nerve wrecking cos scared choose the wrong laminates. But the final product is the result of work we did! More on laminates later. Okay, to the rooms. Think our house is slowly morphing into Moroccan style. |

(IMG:http://www.8xodus.org/shakirabb.jpg)
The 4ft box up is ready! Seen with my Shakira Dining Lamp. (IMG:http://www.8xodus.org/estate.jpg) Okay. Back to Kitchen Talk. (IMG:http://www.8xodus.org/kitchentop.jpg) The granite top is up. Baby absolutely loves this. Even though I thought that white counter top will look better. But WHITE (AGAIN?) - it might stop all of us from cooking - totally. hehehe. (IMG:http://www.8xodus.org/kitchentop2.jpg) (IMG:http://www.8xodus.org/kitchentop1.jpg) You see how sparkling it is? It always reminded me of some toilet in the hotels/shopping complex. i better flap the laminate to test it's thickness and your floors very shiny loooorrrr. Great welcome to Marrakesh Hehe..Think is better to ask your ID/Contractor to confirm for you. So that in any case, they have the responsibility to ensure nothing goes wrong to your laminates! |

Next...Our Feature Wall!
(IMG:http://www.8xodus.org/featureliving.jpg) Okay, finally —- another progress in our home! Feature wall at living room. Awesome. We actually thought that it will be the wrong choice when I first saw the un-finished feature. But ****, it was a beauty. Subtle beauty. (IMG:http://www.8xodus.org/featurembr.jpg) The 2nd feature wall @ our MBR. The prints and colours of the laminate matched our wall colours (Velvet Dream - from Nippon) well. (IMG:http://www.8xodus.org/featurembr2.jpg) Another view. No, the right side of the feature wall is not for displaying items. That’s unfinished feature wall. Need another set as the max one piece of laminate can go is 4ft x 8ft. (Impt to note when designing feature walls, folks. That’s the reason why most feature wall needs some designs. Not cause the owner wants it that way -_-) (IMG:http://www.8xodus.org/mbrtvstrip.jpg) There you have it. TV @ MBR is up! Though nothing much can be said about the resolution of LCD TVs, the TV just fits perfectly well inside the allocated cut out on the feature wall. (IMG:http://www.8xodus.org/mbrtv3.jpg) Close up of the floral laminates we have got for the wall. Some bridal house is using the pure white ones. Nice too. Hello mwerkz.. velvet dream is definitely the colour to go for in MBR! Super cozy. You should be able to see it in my posts now. (IMG:http://203.142.16.149/forum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) No regrets man. We spent SGD21K on the reno. This includes the lighting points. Which is reasonable because we have a LOT of lights! Nice! Keep the pictures coming. (IMG:http://203.142.16.149/forum/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) Hello Angel81..okay..more photos coming up. Meanwhile, some photos which tells you our initial choices….
(IMG:http://www.8xodus.org/lamisample.jpg) Actually, the choice is quite a clear cut decision on the floral laminates. Photos taken with handphone, thus the inconsistencies in the wall colour. (IMG:http://www.8xodus.org/lamisampleliving.jpg) I love this living room laminates which we had chose! And I think everyone should try this method which we did. You never know till you try. One of my wish list then:...Stone - by Kartell. (IMG:http://www.8xodus.org/stonegrp.jpg) Okay, time for more carpentry! *** Exciting part*** Pardon the the yellow/orange tint in the photos. Never set white balance (IMG:http://203.142.16.149/forum/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) (IMG:http://8xodus.org/living%20bench.jpg) 1/2 done dining area. Missing dimpled cushion & mirror on both walls.Has always been in our MUST DO list. (IMG:http://8xodus.org/living%20bench_2.jpg) Planning for misc stuffs (eg: keys/hp/icons/photo frames) on the area above our shoe cabinet. This post has been edited by saeran: Sep 21 2008, 09:19 PM |

150cm shoe cabinet. FengShui has a saying, that shoe cabinet can't be taller than the owner. My fault la! (IMG:http://8xodus.org/shoe%20cabinet.jpg) Open up and reveals the 9 tier cabinet. Hehe.. it will NEVER be enough lorh. Had a thought of getting the wheel shoe holder seen in Molecule. But then again, seems like the dirt it might trap is a headache? (IMG:http://8xodus.org/aircon_1.jpg) Here's to show you guys my elephant (aircon). Check out my glowing downlights from Laniber. Expensive and kenna tok already. The Wardrobe-Madness!
(IMG:http://8xodus.org/wardrobe2.jpg) The before and after. Very engineering-based photos. Of course, not good enough. Not the same angle. (IMG:http://8xodus.org/wp-images/smilies/icon_ra%7a%7a.gif) (IMG:http://8xodus.org/wardrobe4.jpg) Here's our pleasant surprise when we saw this! Our ideas turned into a great work! Really impressed with my contractor's work; on the laying of velvet and its compartments. The $ is worth it. (Nearing $150 for the velvet for 2 pull out drawers) (IMG:http://8xodus.org/wardrobe5.jpg) Let's imagine.... (IMG:http://8xodus.org/wardrobe6.jpg) Pull out mirror with case. Which is something we did not requested for. We only asked for 'pull out mirror'. My contractor should really step in IKEA these days. He is very prejudiced against it. Contractor mentioned that their team of workers took sometime to get the whole set up ready. Is their first time doing this type of pole-system wardrobe. (Can't blame them too) No wonder my contractor took 1 month to get my wardrobe up. We thought they were slacking on our house! haha.. Few WEEKS later, brownish doors up. Not up to my expectation though. Wish for it to be in a darker shade… Meanwhile, MBR lights installed. We call it babylights. You will see them at the tcc@T3. But theirs is 6 eggs. Ours is ten. |

Moving on to the toilets
(IMG:http://8xodus.org/mbrrainshower.jpg) Squarish shower rose for MBR. Nice! The towel rack reminds us of the hotel washroom… (IMG:http://8xodus.org/wp-images/smilies/icon_ra%7a%7a.gif) One thing about rain shower though, the pressure isn't that great. Nevertheless, good thing that we went for it. (IMG:http://8xodus.org/ctrainshower.jpg) Circular rose @ Common toilet. (IMG:http://8xodus.org/kitchenleftcabinet.jpg) Changed one piece of laminate door to glass one after much deliberation. We cannot take the wavy-ness of that piece of laminate there. (IMG:http://203.142.16.149/forum/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) (IMG:http://8xodus.org/ctmirror.jpg) Ikea Mirror in the common toilet. Grandeur Gold. NICE. SGD 135 bucks. Mirror suits the HDB basin. Haha. spam chop (IMG:http://203.142.16.149/forum/style_emoticons/default/dancingqueen.gif) love your t-blog, full of pictures (IMG:http://203.142.16.149/forum/style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) (IMG:http://203.142.16.149/forum/style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) Hello applefreak.. thanks for loving it.. hehe.. as I always believe, pictures says a thousand words... Foyer Light up. Photo doesn't do justice to its beauty. Subtle glow via the yellow crystals against the purple wall. Dining Area Cushion (IMG:http://8xodus.org/dining%20bench_jm1.jpg) Looks like white chocolate bar…. Tinted mirrors to be up soon… Dimpled effect on cushion can't be seen from the photos though. We went on a PVC/Material spree for our headboard and cushion. (just like our laminates) Ranging from Chinatown to Ubi and wanted contractor to go find them to manufacture. In the end, quote was much higher than what was quoted. Went for contractor's lobang and not bad too. (note: negative comments will not be posted) The results shown via the photos posted. |

This is the pink one which I was thinking of buying...Then again, imagine your own shoes inside the wheelies. I doubt it will be as sweet. Argh.. KIV KIV again~…. (IMG:http://8xodus.org/kitchenbacksplash.jpg) Notice how the backsplash looks awkard against the kitchen wall. Only plus point is that it is very reflective. No need to go toilet to look into mirror. (IMG:http://8xodus.org/kitchenbinds.jpg) White binds to prevent neighbors from checking us out while we are in kitchen…. hehe.. (IMG:http://8xodus.org/living%20room%20view.jpg) Look how sparkling the floor is now! Another round of grouting done again. Whole house feels very new! It posted a whole lot of problems then.. Just glad that this is working fine now. Only problem now is that the Tv audio output from the HTS is not connected as yet. Haha.. (IMG:http://203.142.16.149/forum/style_emoticons/default/dancingqueen.gif) At this stage, is already like 6 months since we started renovation. kekeke... Scary yah? (IMG:http://203.142.16.149/forum/style_emoticons/default/jawdrop.gif) (IMG:http://203.142.16.149/forum/style_emoticons/default/dribble.gif) LOVE UR HEADBOARD!!!! (IMG:http://203.142.16.149/forum/style_emoticons/default/dribble.gif) I love it too... took quite sometime to get it up... cause of the constraint of the width of the PVC material... (IMG:http://203.142.16.149/forum/style_emoticons/default/yamseng.gif) VIEW OF LIVING AND DINING AREA Now you folks realised how small our house is now~ Feature wall on the left, dining bench on the right. Kitchen entrance at the centre. Did away with the TV console as we think that we need more walking area. But one thing I want to add.. is that I LOVE MY HOUSE a lot! Is the result of what Baby and myself have put into these mths. Really worth the effort. Moving on the BIGGER AREA... The MBR toilet... Taken inside the wet area. Like the idea of the extended mirror. Though is over-hyped, it makes the toilet looked more 'hotel-feel'. Baby can't stand my towel hanger at the side of the vanity top. He said the location is just so wrong. Don't worry, Baby… I will buy the cutest HELLO KITTY face towel to hang there! |

(IMG:http://8xodus.org/side%20mirror1.jpg)
Side tinted mirror @ dining area up. Looks strange or not huh? Apparently, it makes my living area looks smaller! WAILS. (IMG:http://8xodus.org/side%20mirror2.jpg) The idea of 4Ft Box up is gone! WAILS x 2...Above mistake of ours will be corrected.... stay tuned... (IMG:http://8xodus.org/living%20light3.jpg) Most expensive lights up. At living room. Uncle was grouchy. He had requested to come earlier the night before but we said NO. Who installs lights at 9am? Still sleeping leh! (IMG:http://8xodus.org/living%20light4.jpg) Up and Up! Last count, the no. of crystals is about 80+. HOT or not? I like this lamp a lot! Hehehe… got remote control somemore. I love controlling lights. (IMG:http://8xodus.org/living%20light2.jpg) The WOW Factor. Pairing with dining light. Saeran has got cool-hot lights. In case anyone asks.... Cost breakdown: Living room crystal lights from Chelsea Lighting (with remote and installation) = $680 Misc lights from Chelsea Lighting = $ 385 Location = Jurong East Baby Lights @ MBR from Chan Huat Lighting= $140 Location = Balestier Shakira-baby lamp @ Dining area from AF Lighting House = $ 205 Location = Balestier Downlights + Misc from Designers Lighting = $490 Location = Balestier Foyer Light from D.I.Y Lighting = $145 TOTAL = $2045.00!!! Who dares to complain my house not bright enough! One of items in my wish list! Kartell Stone in Clear (as seen) & Yellow. Shall use them for dining chairs (IMG:http://203.142.16.149/forum/style_emoticons/default/dancingqueen.gif) Some DIY @ our court.. I am sure 100 of you alligators saw this frame @ Ikea/Magazines before. Cost SGD 39 bucks or so. Look how DRAMA it is after being painted in gold. Close up view of the paint work. The mixture of black and gold colour gave the frame a rustic look. Here’s Baby’s project - Kitchen Trolley bought from IKEA. Costed us around SGD165. Placement 1 - Saeran’s choice. Felt this way is smoother. Also can push back further to face windows while eating. Placement 2 - Baby’s choice & I wonder why. Actually got this big piece of granite top from contractor. Supposedly from the cut out of the hob. Hehehe… So we gonna paint the wooden parts to white. |

Went to BKK in Jul and bought some home & decor items back too!
(IMG:http://8xodus.org/cups.jpg) Clear glass tea cups/bass teaspoons/fork/candle holder x 2/gold trimmed small dish and soup spoon (IMG:http://8xodus.org/houseitems1.jpg) 3 long cushions/table runner/cushion covers/photoframe/Naraya hangers (if you can see them at the bottom) (IMG:http://8xodus.org/stool.jpg) Sofa Stool which Baby handcarried in CTC. Amazing! 1200 Baht. Must buy! (IMG:http://8xodus.org/candleholder.jpg) Candleholder which Baby tried very hard to squeeze into backpack. He loves it. Nice DIY on your kitchen trolley! Made full use of your granite. (IMG:http://203.142.16.149/forum/style_emoticons/default/good.gif) Hello LittleDevil.. Nods.. yah lorh..granite is too expensive for us to throw away~ (IMG:http://203.142.16.149/forum/style_emoticons/default/notti.gif) Moving on to night scenes @ our court.. (IMG:http://8xodus.org/LR%20effect.jpg) Feels dreamy with this light on. The crystals casted rainbow shimmers on the walls. Nice. Okay. Meanwhile, we got the recess box irritation fixed! 4″ additional box up done @ the sides. So it looks more pleasing to the eye, that the recess area is finally equal. YEY-Ness. |

Hello SmartFool Believe the laminates for living room feature wall is from Evershine-World of Laminates. I think EDL ones were featured in Home & Deco mag. Their 'diamond' is too big. Just my opinion.. Hi neighbour! Congrats and Welcome keke.. Wow....nice nice and looks like a condo style. Your diy kichen trolley is good. Is it eary to install? I might buy one. The circular shoe holder...how much it cost and where can I get it? One word: BEAUTIFUL!!!! Hello h4happy.. I din't install the trolley. My HTB did. He did it faster than I paint the gold frame (IMG:http://203.142.16.149/forum/style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) So you can roughly gauge..haha... The shoeholder can be found in Molecule. A shop in Marina Square.. i think about SGD150 ++. If needed, I can confirm the price for you again Yah.. we wanted our house to be 'condo' style.. cause also small like a condo..might as well ma.. Hi saeran Your house is really (IMG:http://203.142.16.149/forum/style_emoticons/default/dribble.gif) Can introduce your contractor to me? Thanks ^^ Check your PM (IMG:http://203.142.16.149/forum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) SPAM! hahaha....very nice and impressive house you got there, worth all the effort and time for this! Hello darcbleu...Thanks! Check PM later okay (IMG:http://203.142.16.149/forum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Your hse is so nicely done up and u are also very creative. Cos i think all of us will not have though that the granite top could be so good use too.. (IMG:http://203.142.16.149/forum/style_emoticons/default/good.gif) Hello missyling.. actually is my baby/HTB's idea on this. Cause he feels that the cost should NOT include the cut away part if contractor is going to take it back. So we requested contractor to cut it our nicely and keep it for us. We still have one small piece. (Basin cut out area). Don't know what to do with it. Haha.. Actually wanted to use as coffee table top. But think very tough! Hee... I'm currently waiting for my 1st and 2nd appt, and also waiting to start my reno. haha! So still no tblog to share. Now here to learn from u guys on reno stuff. Nevermind..got time, read reno-forum and magazines..get ideas and best if can get contractor to do what you want (if you don't mind the co-ordination) *** SGD21K does NOT include the lights I bought. What I meant is the lighting points/electrical points etc.. BTW, the tofu squares look like mental hospital or not? Kakak.. (IMG:http://203.142.16.149/forum/style_emoticons/default/sport-smiley-004.gif) We will only shift in officially after our wedding next year (IMG:http://203.142.16.149/forum/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) But am planning to throw party @ my place liao! After HTS mounted @ MBR. From Philips too.. By the time we actually mounted this thing, the price has already dropped by 30 bucks or so! (IMG:http://8xodus.org/Evita.jpg) Evita! (IMG:http://8xodus.org/blocks.jpg) Choosing btw Evita and the one above. (Both from Cellini) In the end, went for Evita. Is very big. Actually, too big at 3m for our court. But we love it too much... PLUS, we had searched for the sofa which we both like for a VERY Long time.. (IMG:http://203.142.16.149/forum/style_emoticons/default/bangwall.gif) |
