  1. Hi Kitchen Matters I am eyeing Sharp AX1300V. What's yr take on this water oven? I don't dare to use microwave oven cos I read the high heat within very short time kills off the nutrients in the food. http://www.sharp.com.sg/web/products/prodD....asp?prodId=331 Yr advice or anyone else who uses a steam oven is greatly appreciated
  2. Have u read last Sat's ST article by Andy Ho on induction heat hob? His conclusion is that gas stove is still safer than the IH type. I have been wondering whether IH hob is safe, esp after seeing this on youtube- Summary-The magnetic fields from the IH cooker can be cancer causing, so choose IH hob that comes with special protection against high magnetic fields . Do we such IH hob here? How do I know the IH hob I am considering emits magnetic fields at safe level?
  3. Thinking of buying a simple and cheap portable oven, eg taiyo brand. Has anyone used this brand of oven before? Would you recommend it? What are the pros and cons? Or can u recommend me any simple and cheap portable oven. I plan to use it mainly to bake bread- the no knead type and maybe some cakes. Thanks!
  4. My contractor provided a distance of 60cm only between my slimline cookerhood and stove. I find the distance too short and my head could even hit the cooker hood. For my previous installation, the distance provided was 65 cm. So I called up the company which sold me the new cooker hood and was told the usual installation distance is between 65-75cm. And if the hood is installed too low, the heat from the bob may affect the plastic portion of the hood in the long run. Can someone share with me what's your installation distance between the slimline hood and hob? Has anyone here installed a distance of 60cm for your hood and hob? My contractor claimed he intentionally installed a lower height for me so that the fumes and oil are better sucked by the hood. But I am not convinced with his explanation and am really concerned. Pls help. Thanks.
  5. We install a simple Osim water filter, and change the cartridge every 3 mths( approx). I think it's good to install a simple water filter as the water is cleaner and I can drink straight from the tap. The filter membrane does turn brown after a while. To make the water cleaner, I plan to further purify it with charcoal.

  8. Plz share the pros and cons of Hobz hood and Hob.
  9. Hello:) Can u share with me the pros and cons of using the Rinnai glass inner burner hob? Seems good but we are hesitating cos it's glass. Wonder what would happen if we leave the stove on for more than necessary? Where did u get yrs? We went to Poh Joo and were sold hard on Hobz. Price was also very attractive- ~$620 for 3 burmers glass hob + hood, which cost less than than the Rinna CG hob alone. Hope to hear from you. Thank you very much.
  10. I just want to change the cover for the power sockets as they look old and wld look odd with the new kitchen cabinets. But the quote I was given sounds so exp - $60 for single power socket/ $80 for double. Why so exp when all I need is to change the exterior? Was told they got to do re-wiring even when change cover only.. Is it true? Can I get better rates than quoted? Thanks!

  12. My power sockets look old and I thought of changing. One co quoted me $60 per single socket. I thought just change the plastic cover, should be cheap cheap ! But was told they have to pull out the wire and re- do. What's the market rate or best price rate to change power socket? What kind of power socket should I ask for ?
  13. Anyone can help with this ? Do u use silicone for yr hob and sink?
  14. Is there a need to seal the surrounding of hob and sink with silicone? The silicone will turn black when it gets into contact with water over time, and looks so ugly. Also, a city gas worker came to my friend's house and showed that her hob is still "moveable" and told her to get her contractor to seal it with silicone. But her contractor said nowadays, pple do away with silicone. Is there an alternative to using silicone?
