So cherry, did he fix your cabinets ?

Yeah it is halfway done. IT IS HUGE. I didn't expect the cupboards to be so 'thick' looking. They look waaaay too bulky for my taste. Most furniture these days are a little more sleek and thin. Plus it's kinda blocking my front door. It's really awkward. My mom stayed home to supervise the whole thing but I guess I should have stayed home instead. :(

I have a switch on the wall as well, and they cut the hole of the cupboard wrongly so the China carpenter had to do the cutting on the spot, and it looks horrible as ****. I could do a better job. Imagine using a penknife and slicing cardboard without a ruler. That's how it is. UGH. Gonna make sure Ah Yong takes a look and try to fix it.. as much as possible. It's just hideous.

Oh just to add on, make sure you ask him how the cabinets are gonna look. Probably provide a sample - that'd be good. I didn't provide it thinking that he would know better. Kinda screwed up there.

Hope your reno goes well!

Well guys! My small renovation has finally been completed!

Pros:

  1. Ah Yong addressed almost all of the issues that we had with his work.
  2. He gave a lot of freebies even with the cheap quote that he provided (e.g. free chemical wash, electrical fixtures, fixing of door knobs and toilet seats, etc)

Cons:

  1. Be prepared that he will be extremely slow (can't complain much cos it's cheap after all. If I had the financial ability, I would hire someone with better skills which would definitely cost a lot more)
  2. Average workmanship
  3. Painters provided are Bangalas or China workers (not sure if they are illegal workers or not) - some of them had shabby work attitude. China workers were more willing to do their jobs on time and took lesser breaks or none at all.

Overall, for the quote that he gave ($3800 compared to $5000+ wherever I asked) for the mini reno that I did, I guess I can't really complain much. He came down almost every time the workers were here to double check on their jobs. Which is quite comforting because most of you said he would MIA quite a bit. If you don't mind cheap+slow, you can consider him. If you want chopchop kind of job with 5 stars quality, you will be better off placing your money with another company.

Do keep in mind that all I asked him to do was:

  • Paint job for 3 room HDB
  • Shoe cabinet with mirrored sliding doors, 1 full-length wardrobe with sliding doors, 1 full-length kitchen cabinet with normal doors
  • Lighting for 2 kitchen lights and dining area (he threw in another 4 for free)

I hope this was helpful! If you guys would like, I will upload photos of his work maybe next week or so. House quite messy now. Hehehehe.

Unit U Interior

Name: Ah Yong

Mobile: 9758 4228
Guys, you cannot engage this guy. He is a conman. He will take your money to sponsor his children's overseas education.
He told me his 'overhead ' from running this business is 10K .
You know why, 3 children all studying in UK.
He has no workers under him. Uses illegal workers...Doesnt pay them so they disappear after 2 days work
And his tiler , man, ****iest job ever....real amateur...
Save your money....dont believe anything he say...
You are better off paying 5K more to some other reliable contractor coz in the end, to rescue his **** work , you probably have to spend 10K more
He has no license, so he is not qualified in the first place. He 'borrows' the license from other registered HDB contractor ( who himself is another a$$h0le)
Iam telling you this because i want to stop your suffering before it even starts.
Please listen..
And this asshole probably rips so many people off , time and again because a lot of his victims maybe shocked into silence..
When i went to small claims, the officer told me 2 previous cases pending against him already...
But nobody can do anything when he doesnt appear in court to challenge the claims against him
He is very smart ( at cheating , eating your money and surviving )
We need to be smarter to end his deception and trickery.
Please share with your friends who are about to start reno...
There are many honest contractors in Singapore.
Many of them aided me to rescue my renovation, after this ****head cheated me.
So far, this is the only dishonest contractor i have met...

Hi! I engaged this contractor Ah Yong for my kitchen cabinet just a few weeks ago. His quote was quite cheap - about 60% of what other contractors quoted. For the price, workmanship is average but materials used are pretty solid. The only con was his work could be quite slow but he installed my kitchen cabinet, hob and hood by himself and his workers. His worker even helped me to dismantle old pipes and install mirror cabinets for free. I don't think he is out to cheat anyone as he and his workers really put in effort to get the job done. If you are looking for a very budget contractor and is willing to wait for a while, you can consider engaging him. For the price he is really a bargain. Cheers.

My strong advice...

Maybe for every 1 job that he completed, he has absconded with 10 others' money.

Beware. When i went to small claims court, there was one other claim in his name just the week earlier.

It is my duty to warn the others. Read each post in this thread and judge for yourselves.

He even boasted that he used illegal worker.

His price , maybe slightly cheaper, but he will put you through ****.

My flat, he ran away halfway. Not worth it at all
