Sofa With The Back Face To Main Door? Good Or Bad?

Recommended Posts

If divider too cramped, can consider putting one or 2 big pots of plant behind the back of sofa. Make sure tall enough and can survive for long without sunlight(or put white light which has R,Y B primary color content)

Hi,

I can't viewyour images here. It seems your links are broken. By the way, is there any solution for this? Others than building up divider?

general rule of thumb: if a position puts u in a situation where pple can sneak up on u and scare u. its no good. if back of sofa facing door, pple coming thru the door can scare u when ur sitting on the sofa coz u can't see them coming in.

for interior landform, I hope your sofa is not blocking internal Ming Tang, Bright Hall. Ideally there should be ample space between the door entrance and sofa.

I agree with Mae29.

There are neighbours from my block whose sofa is placed directly infront of the door. It's so near that I could grab a stick & hit the person sitting on the sofa.

This one good. Imagine returing home & open the door and see thinngs "block" here & there, mood no good liao, mental tension starts loading like bullet loading, awaiting for little unpleasant/unplanned event to trigger....

I am comfortable with decorating but understanding the fengshui is very interesting to me. I understand the basics, but what about when someones walks into your home, is there a good rule of thumb for placement or furniture in the foyer? I have a console table with a mirror above it, a bench for sitting on to put on shoes, and a medium size picture of nature.

Hi all,

Here is my floor plan.

I need help from all of you. Please vote where should I put my sofa there.

1) At the wall face to the door when you sit down. TV console in front of the door. OR

2) Near to the door face to the wall when you sit down. So, the tv console will be at the wall side.

Hi emobebe,

Without any reference to fengshui, my opinion is that you either place the TV against the wall that is perpendicular to the door. i.e. the part that has a dimension "50000". But are there any windows running along the wall?

Or beside the door (facing wall of bedroom 2). But what is the distance b/w that stretch of wall (next to the door) to the wall of bedroom 2?

Both 1 and 2 are no good....clutter the front entrance!

I would suggest you place the sofa at the walkway to the bedrooms (i.e. in front of your Main Bedroom). You can build a low partition wall, say 5ft, and sofa can lean against it. This means your TV is on the left wall of door entrance, near the windows, and sofa is at the extreme right corner.

Hi mae29,

I noticed that one neighbour staying below us (on a much lower floor) placed their rosewood "sofa" sets directly near the main door.

When they opened their main door, you see all their chairs & coffee tables.

Their main door, is painted a very very very dark shade of green, almost black. When I dropped by to pass the female owner some stuff, the door has a forboding look... like I was being sucked in by a black hole.

And the flat which was the same in floor area as mine, looked so small.

If a flat look cluttered at the entrance of the main door, will that obstruct their wealth?

They are not well-off.

Have thought of this before. But that means if I put TV near to window, I won't feel comfortable cos of the sunlight. I know can use roller blinder but still feel uncomfortable. When you open your door, stand there and look inside you will the arrangement of furniture very weird....the flow is not there..that is how i feel about it. However, thanks for your input..

Hi Edenstrauss,

Yes, got windows running along the wall. So, not a good place to place a TV. I didn't take measurement for the distance between that stretch of wall to the wall of bedroom 2 but I can say very short. I haven't officially take over this unit. So, the owner not comfortable when I wanted to take measurement for it.

Thanks for your input. :)

Basically the hall is quite a large rectangular in shape. 5 meter is too far between tv and sofa, ideally within 3 meter. If dinning table is of those 6-8 ft type, can consider to place at wall near kitchen entry (can have a panel mirror there too)or near the window.

TV console:

"Feature wall" lean against mbr's wall. 3.6 meter(11.8 ft) is a bit too long, 8 ft should be just nice, skew toward right to allow more space for accesing into rooms. 3 meter from wall to sofa, enough liao. A L-sofa lean against room#2's" wall(the longer side of L). Can consider to build a partition of about 4 ft-tall, 2 ft wide, top as "flush platform" to things. Good to use clear glass cube to construct such partition, allow light to sofa. Small-L sofa then leans again this "glass wall". Dinning table has to be at window liao.

Can consider a 4-inch height S-shape "rise-platform" from window till partition with some railing as "cosy corner" cum dinning. Box-ceiling fans.....I think I should collect consultancy fee from you liao.

Plants act as "support" to sofa as well as "camouflege" to "visitors" outside main door. I think not so practical le, the leaves of plants will extend beyong sofa and "disturb" occupants.

Hi, BB

Bepgof mentioned earlier....come back see things blocking here and blocking there, waiting for some events to trigger!

As to whether obstruct wealth or not, can't conclude without assessing the internal landform theory.

Hi mae29,

I agree with bepgof's comments about the blockage & irritation becox I felt irritated & didn't want to enter my neighbour's flat. If I'm a potential buyer, I would stop at the door & turn down the flat straight away.

Big events? Do u mean disasters? Tragedies?
