Different firm has different payment schedule, most of them go by progressive payment. whichever it is, never give cash outside their office or showroom and never issue cash cheque. Ask for official receipt after making payment, thumb of rule is to get proof that you did make payment so that you won't be label as the one not paying.

If you deal direct with sub-contractor than it's a different ball game all together. :yamseng:

Thank you guy for the info. Just to ask if it's common practice or a must to pay so much upfront payment to an ID/ contractor ? E.g 40% down payment before works start. Can I insist not to pay until works are completed? Thanks

From what I have gathered so far and meeting up with main contractors, that is not the usual practice.

If you read around here, what I gathered matches what most of the folks here experienced. It's usually the following process:

5-10% downpayment on quoted price upon signing contract with ID/contractor

Payment up to 40% on quoted price when materials are being delivered to your place and work is going to start.

Payment up to 80% on quoted price when work is completed halfway.

Payment up to 90% on quoted price when work is completed and keys hand back to you.

The remainder 10% will be payable when you stay in your place in about 2 weeks to 1 month period, having rectified any defects and such. If still have outstanding defects, withhold until all is completed and satisfied, then the final payment is made.

The above payment process is not the usual practice if you engage sub contractors yourself though.

Borrow your thread to bring awareness to ID firms and individuals as well.

Andy Yeo Boon Heng, ex-employee of Grupp Marketing Pte Ltd and partner/owner of Y & C Resources that provides QuickStep Laminate Flooring, is currently on the run.

He collected my deposit and now he is uncontactable. His ex-partner and other sources had confirmed he had skipped town.

Any IDs or individuals who engaged him to do laminate floorings, please pm me if you had made a police report. I will share with you my police report number and I/O for us to link our cases together.

Also beware of ATD Builder Mr. Richard Png.

Same thing, taken full payment from owner but never pay to his sub cons. He is asking sub cons to chase house owner.

No response to phone calls, emails and for sms.

Almost all works incompletely done. not turning up to finish the pending things. worst contractor.

Thanks. We will take note on that.
