Which Matress Is Good

Recommended Posts

Today saw aafrenz's latest ad - still with "lowest price guaranteed"

BUT the new Duchess mattress is now priced at $1,899 [instead of the previous $1,299 (+ gst)]

with 2 supposedly ADDITIONAL Freebies - Quiltcover + Bedsheet Set - making total 5 freebies instead of the original 3 comprising the Designer Leather Bedframe + Pillows + Mattress Protector

Also 3 other brand mattresses featured - KingKoil + MaxCoil + Four Star - with same 5 freebies now

Seems like the Northstar shops all having big sales bc also saw other ads. in today's ST papers

So the $1,299 deal is over already?

Do you think the new duchess is too thick for regular queen size bedsheet?

The sales lady Isa.. I spoke with on Delivery Day last week [not the original sales guy S] from Aafrenz called today and said the correct 'diamond-shape pattern' head-board will be delivered next Thurs afternoon - said it would still be in beige PU leather [guess it would be too much to expect a storage bed from them - even tho' that should add up to the promised $899 value for the freebies as originally advertised - at present there's a MISSING $540 value somehow ....]

I was checking out the ibeds.com.sg site and noticed a similar 'diamond pattern' headboard at http://www.ibeds.com.sg/product_images/o/tlt_805__39319.jpg

which x-805 diamond pattern was more pleasing to the eye as it was 'less complicating with fewer or only 4 diamond shapes at top row' compared with the 'equivalent' aafrenz showroom model with slightly-more or 6 diamond shapes at top row etc ...

Now the present boxy rectangular shape pattern has kinda 'grown on me' after a week ....

[btw it's called Tiffany at ibeds.com.sg and priced at $359 http://www.ibeds.com.sg/products/Tiffany.html# - or called Alano & Monaco at beds.sg as mentioned earlier]

I really hope I won't regret my 'diamond-shape' option at the end of the day :bangwall:

tho' I remember the 'curving' was far more pronounced here and therefore very good for sitting up in bed

Fingers crossed 'no regrets' here :)

Thanks for sharing jjcc, will KIV the 'new dutchess' as well, the thicker Latex is more comfortable than the former. Was told that it's an inch thicker.

The old dutchess would amount $2099 while new dutchess would amount to $2299,

both with all freebies (mattress protector+2 pillows) and storage divan (as personally I'm looking for storage)

Was told that the storage divan is about $1k, seems like EXPO (dealers from Plaza) are offering the same price.

You may want to check out beds.sg. they offer my storage divan at $860 so, with that in mind, I could save $140.

On further exploring the Sleep Post site, the dunlopillo storage divan {Q & K size} is ONLY S$ 799 (Online Price)

Futher savings of abt $60 : total savings = $200 for you ?

See http://www.sleeppost.com/viewproduct.php?p...=2752&set=1

BTW - the Sleep Post SP 008 Bedframe Model at $379 is 'identical' to Beds.sg's Monaco faux Leather Bed Frame listed at only $359 [$20 cheaper at beds.sg] ------> presently the 'similar' bedframe that was 'wrongly' delivered to me in beige

Thanks so much for the beds.sg link !

Hmmm ... from the prices of the Faux Leather Beds stated there

- leads me now to ascertain more {take issue ?} with aafrenz on THEIR claims that the freebies they're giving with the 4 stated mattresses listed in their 10th July ad is worth total of $899

I HAD in fact earlier spoken/emailed the salesguy just 1-2 days after my 11th July visit/order on the "drastic price discrepancy" after comparing the bedframe models I had found on the Sleep Post site then [the Sleep Post then New Duchess online promo has since ended too]

The reply I was given on 13th July was "that those were overpriced/discontinued models/not their own but from suppliers etc" and that "good quality leather" means PU leather [not necessarily real/genuine leather - fair enough]

and my queries on THEIR 'own' models and 'true/not inflated' prices were left typically unanswered :deal:

Now after exploring the Faux Leather Beds in beds.sg, I wonder now ...

Seems like someone pulled a 'fast one' here somehow on me :( Yikes ....'misrepresentations again ?'

Shouldn't I have been entitled to that "Designer Leather Bed" that should be worth at least $800-$899 ????

- Alano Faux Leather Storage Bed Frame from beds.sg is $859

- Livio Faux Leather Bed Frame is $857 {had seen similar at showroom and was then told that the free bed does not include this model !!}

What was delivered to me is the 'identical' Monaco faux Leather Bed Frame listed as $359 only - in beige

Hmmm - just WHERE is the other $500++ value ??? [$899 - $359 = $540]

{and this was not the chosen 'diamond-shapes' seen at the Northstar showroom - and as captured on my handphone too - but not found at beds.sg site}

My friend likes the simple minimalist boxy rectangles/squares tho' when I showed her the various models we saw at the Orchard Road Mattress & Beds showrooms today

Actually the curved bedframe design is exactly the same/identical in both Alano & Monaco except that Alano is the one with storage

Discounting the 2 pillows and the mattress protector which came from Dunlopillo anyway, the BULK of the $899 should rightfully be attributed to the "Designer Leather Bedframe" since the New Duchess is Item 2 in the Item 1 to 4 stated in the ad !

I know these are FREEBIES but still ...

I hate marketing gimmicks - there shouldn't be ANY misrepresentations of any sort

Make sure you carry thru' your promises, no false claims etc

Oic thanks Ashanti, any deformities with the foam on a closer look? I'm hessistant on getting foams for pillowtop after some feedback from popular brands..

I might just get a replaceable piece; microgel pillowtop from Kingcoils@ $189 (queen-size) during their sales price.

FYI - from http://www.sleeppost.com/viewproduct.php?p...=1159&set=1

Thank goodness - what was delivered by the Dunlopillo guys IS INDEED the NEW Duchess :thumbs up:

Well - u never know [so many false claims & promises etc]

- so MUST cross-verify with various 'independent' sources [even if it's after the fact]

Yes the Talalay Latex Pillowtop is the much-thicker one of 2.5-3" [found in the New Duchess with the braided cord] compared with the old previous thinner 1" one in the old Duchess

correction.. bought it 3 yrs back at courts at $2099 only e mattress alone ... yes latex n memory foam.. afterall is good n comfy..

However seahorse mattress is quite durable at e budget price nowadays.. can say their technology n quality is always new for buyer. if have $$ y not go for a good material mattress..eg, Like u pay wat u get.. hehe... can last u for more than 10 or 20 yrs or above..

just my humble point of view... : )

My previous normal spring mattress [old divan style] lasted me well over 22 years

- it was some brand from UK [if not wrong bed+mattress was something like $500 or so then] and from a furnishing retailer that went up-lorry more than 10-15 years back

Actually the replaced old mattress was still in relatively 'good condition' bc after 22 years still no spoilt spring or sagging as such - but I replaced it bc the covering linen material was all tearing apart .....

My mom liked her Dunlopillo latex mattress [bought when she got married] bc that lasted well over 24 years too but her present mattress bought from Robinsons at $400 offer price >5 years back still OK [it's either FourStar or Seahorse ... must remember to check her mattress one of these days to see which brand ...]

I zeroed in on Dunlopillo for my replacement mattress after reading the posts here and especially after I saw the Aafrenz ad that Saturday 10th July which spelt out specifically New Duchess etc & freebies at that price ....

Since this new mattress should hopefully last me until I expire [maybe in say 30 years ?], didn't mind a slightly 'upgraded mattress' for myself this time round bc afterall doubt I'll need to do another mattress replacement unless I live on for say beyond another 35-40 years ??? :yamseng:

Thanks for sharing het.

I was ogling over the simmons lack series once upon a time, thinking that expensive is good.

I saw the Richmond model from courts previously, it's a latex with memory foam, Queen size, retailing at $2600 with storage divan. How long have you been in use of this matress, may I ask?

Today went shopping in Orchard Rd - and also checked out the Dunlopillo mattresses at the various furnishing stores which carry that brand

Thank goodness - what was delivered by the Dunlopillo guys IS INDEED the NEW Duchess :thumbs up:

I was hoping to be able to find a nice-coordinating-color sofa throw for my sofa but no luck

guess I can only find such at Ikea .... so must make a trip there probably 2molo

Sighs ... burnt quite a hole today !

Last evening had already bought 3 pairs of shoes [no gss discount there] but when friend called to meet her in Tangs shoe dept, couldn't resist temptation and bought my 4th pair this afternoon !

Then "itchy-itchy" as we'd both not been to Orchard Central OC before - kena 'lured' into a local designer boutique after an interesting item on a mannequin caught my eye ..... arrghhh ended up with 2 items :bangwall::good:

My friend said "Good bc hopefully that would reduce my urge/itch/funds for the casino" that I was planning to make a 2nd trip within the next 2 weeks :(

Nvm - pay day is next week hahahaha ;)

Thank you!

I bought from Aafrenz Bedding Pte Ltd - they are at :

7030 Ang Mo Kio Ave 5

#01-39/58 Northstar

Singapore 569880

Tel : 6570 8034

{across the road is seagate factory - where have bus no. 88, 72 etc

OR 2 bus-stops before Sheng Shiong [off main-street] if enter from Serangoon North Ave 4}

Paid $1299 + gst $90.93 = $1389.93 total [all free delivery]

Call them if they're still at Expo exhibition and if prices better at Expo or not ???

My freebies besides the new Duchess mattress :

- 2 White Cloud Dunlopillo pillows

- 1 Dunlopillo mattress protector

- PU Leather "Designer" Bedframe [extra gss freebie ?? - unfortunately they got the wrong model for me [got the 'boxy rectanges instead of diamonds' pattern at headboard .... sighz ]

- not sure about that free bolster now .....

As posted earlier in the other 2 Mattress threads, my new Dunlopillo Duchess mattress [Queen size] that I'd bought from aafrenz was delivered today

Will feedback after sleeping on it tonight :)

The free bedframe arrived first [gss freebie ?] - now sorting out a minor 'hitch' as somehow the headboard isn't the model I'd chosen at the showroom  [Color and PU leather seems ok tho']

[The salesguy I dealt with is now busy at the Expo exhibition - seems he made some rectification on the model without confirming with me 1st ???]

I'd taken pics of BOTH the desired/chosen curving bedframe model as well as Duchess mattress on my handphone then [so as to know/show exactly what I was expecting] - the aafrenz lady got me to mms over to her the headboard pic and they'll look into it

Then the Dunlop guys also came with the 'std' freebies + mattress :

1. 2 Dunopillow White Cloud pillows

2. 1 Dunlopillo quilted mattress protector

{Errrmm .... the salesguy did say his manager should personally be delivering an extra free Dunlopillo bolster to me too since he's staying very near my place which happens to be quite near the Expo too - had asked why free bolster not possible since TradeHub place was giving a free bolster too to some of the posters here who managed to wrangle this .... so far no bolster delivery yet - let's see now :P }

My mom was asking me why I want so many bolsters for what -

hahahaha - all the more the merrier expecially if free - right ?

The new new Duchess mattress is thick - 12" with the Talalay latex pillowtop

All these for only $1299 plus gst : think this is the lowest bargain price right now ?

Can you please advise where you bought the matress at $1299? I thinking of getting the same.

Thank you!
