Outdoor Tiling With Or Without Skirting?

Recommended Posts

I'm in the midst of doing some tiling works to the outdoor area. The tiler had suggested doing skirting at the edge.

Want to ask if this is commonly done or any particular advantage/disadvantage? Looking at the neighbours, I don't see any of them with skirting.

Please help. Thank you.

It is not common to see skirting for tiling done outdoor.

I would recommend skirting done; I always did. It costs a bit more to do it (material, workmanship) but the tiled area would look far nicer and cleaner. (Just like one would look nicer wearing a collared t-shirt than a non-collared.)

Also, because of the ground moisture the edge tends to 'decay' faster than the body of the wall. Having a skirting would eliminate this issue.

Just my 2-cents thought.

Cheers!

Designers dun like skirting, because the top of the skirting is very untidy, unless send for additional costly chamfering.

Some big projects did not do skirting because the item was left out of the BQ, and not specified and not quoted.

Personally I think skirting is a must, as whenever a painted wall touches the floor, moisture tends to creep up causing discolouration, or when u mop the floor, the dirty mop stains the painted wall.

don't be ngiao about the skirting height. 4 inch or higher looks more proportional. HDB reno likes 100mm, which looks so tiny.

Thanks all for the feedback. After speaking to the main contractor, decided will choose the skirting option for practicality. Thankfully quote remains the same.
