Sheet Metal Customization - Above Cooking Stove

Recommended Posts

hey guys,

just wondering if anyone has been to anywhere to have some customized sheet metals done up?

i think they are the same material as what people install for their a/c ducts and fume hoods

basically we have thrown away a very old conventional fume hood(basically it just diverts the smoke and smell to my eyes), decide not to buy another same problem anymore so i thought of covering that gap up with metal sheets, to prevent further damage to the existing wooden cabinets.

just hope if anyone has some recommendations for sheet metal specialists and advise if sheet metal is suitable for the job?

i have sketched a simple design to be like a "inverted slope" instead of just a cover to prevent clouding.

all advise appreciated! thank you!!

Update:

I have visited Hiap Hin and met uncle Lim, he has recommended aluminium as compared to SS. cost performance ratio

i will simply just proceed with a sheet cover(ordered 3mm alumn) between cooker and cabinet.

Will still apply the slopey effect with the use of 2 short metal rods.

Hi bro,

Looking forward to see how it looks like.

I want it to have an access to put the filter too.

Sure, will do so when its ready for collection this weekend.

just my thoughts, if you still want the filtering function then might as well get a new fume hood, save your trouble running around and planning on how to do it etc. i have previously enquired the costs to be around 300+, comparing to the filter, fan, custom work that you will require.

i chose to forgo the fume hood function since it doesnt seem to really help for me and that "exhaust" is currently at my eye level, it chokes me at times when i stir fry with high heat :help:

just my 2 cents, whichever that works for you.

if you need a recommendation on the fume hood's price etc, I can do a referral.

Cheers to the long weekend!

arrival of Alum 3mm checkered plate (i opted for checkered becuz of the design and some extra bits of thickness) try to use min 3mm thickness, mine was just nice with very slight sludge

Mr Lim don't do welding, so you need to get those A+B glue and DIY

had some left over silver spray so i sprayed it over to give some protection and to make it look like its been soldered.

alternative if you dont want to do the sloping, just get the dimensions for the cover will do

finished product

i'm planning to paint the wood, any kind of paints to recommend?

Hi,

Just exactly what im planning too. Can I know the location you get the aluminium sheet and how much?

I ever paint my wood side behind the hood with a matte wood paint.

Thanks for sharing bro.

you can look for Mr Lim here, Hiap Hin Timber Merchants & Trading

348 Jurong East Ave 1, Singapore 600348
6565 3634

i spent a total about $75 for everything from the sheet to stand and glue.

if you want to go for SS, then the costs should be about 20% higher

please share your photos and good luck with your DIY!
