New Age Furniture - Dressers And Cabinets
  Date: 20 Mar 2010

Visualize the word cupboard, and what comes straight to your mind? Straight vertical storage box with a few drawers? Well, lets look at what this ingenious designer invents, simply, out-of-the-box furniture.

Judson Beaumont, the man who fabricated the structures, has assembled many fanciful creations. The designs lean towards whimsical and unusual, a smart move not only to attract adults, but children to his designs. His custom furniture company, Straight Line Designs Inc., has created some of the most fun and unusual dressers, tables and more. He has, literally, stacks of ideas: a dresser that opens up like an accordian, another that appears to be pressed down from with some heavy weight, a cracked dresser that seems to be torn apart by some massive force. Straight becomes concave or convex. Traditional height is vastly elongated.

One of his creations is the MDF-made dresser with carvings of with a woman's waistline and finished off with black laquer. It shapes like a woman's black dress and can be hung altogether on a wall hanger (left pictures above). All his works took off with a sketch and transformed into real pieces at his factory by 8 craftspeople.

The dressers above, with drawers flying apart and drawers hanging on the wall, gives the impression that the furniture just exploded. The great thing is that these cupboards are not just an art piece, they do work and are fully functional!
