6 Rules to Build a Dream Room for Children

Interior Design & Decor

Parents always want to build a dream room for their children when planning for renovation. You should bear in mind that the children’s room design actually affects the growth of children, so there are many aspects that need to be considered. Let Deco-Man introduce 6 rules to consider for interior design for children’s room!

1. Safety comes first

Before thinking about interior design, the most important thing about children’s rooms is safety. If your child is still a toddler, you need to be more careful in design. The following points are some considerations:

  • Avoid using glass or furniture with sharp corners. Common children’s furniture will also be designed with rounded corners or even protective corners.
  • If the child is still a toddler, try to avoid choosing heavy furniture, such as multiple heavy cabinets. If the child climbs, accidents may occur.
  • If the children’s room has space for children to run and jump, the floor should be softly padded.
  • If the windows of the children’s room can be opened, the furniture should not be placed near the windows to prevent children from touching the windows.
  • For storage cabinets, please be sure to use hardware hinges with slow-closing function to prevent children from pinching their fingers.
  • The sockets in the room should be designed as far as possible out of the reach of children, and a protective cover can also be provided on the socket.

2. Consider the function of each area in the house

Although children’s rooms may not be large, it is still very important to plan the purpose of the room. If you want your children to study or play in the room in addition to sleep, you must clearly divide the room area from the design. If there is no clearly defined space area, children may naturally concentrate all activities including sleeping, playing, and learning in one place – the bed.

The room configuration actually affects children’s learning on planning, self-discipline, etc. A well-organized room will encourage children to live more orderly. Therefore, the design should be coordinated, and at the same time, it should be clear to the child which area is used for learning and which area is used for playing or sleeping. If the room is small, consider making good use of the high-altitude space by ordering a bunk bed, and use the bottom for other purposes.

3. Storage space should be clearly classified

Children’s rooms should have own storage and play space. Don’t use the children’s room as your own storage space. The storage space in the children’s room is actually needed to train children to understand what tidiness is. So, those storage spaces are best used for toys, books, notebooks, clothes and so on. With a clear classification, you can teach children to tidy up by themselves and learn what tidiness is.

If you add your personal storage space in children’s room, the overcrowded children’s room will be very oppressive, so avoid using the children’s room as your own storage warehouse, and reduce the furniture. Less furniture means a more spacious amusement park, which is very beneficial for children.

4. Selection of building materials

The building materials of children’s rooms should be kept as natural as possible, which is also an important part of children’s growth. For floor selection. If the situation permits, wooden floors will be warmer than tiles. In addition, the use of non-allergenic materials is also important. “Healthy” building materials can also be used, such as low-formaldehyde boards and water-soluble paints that do not contain toxic chemicals.

5. Theme selection

Children will be addicted to different cartoons, but their tastes will often change, so avoid the cartoons that children are addicted to at the time, and use this as the design theme of the children’s room. Parents can observe the child’s preferences and negotiate with the child to choose a broader and more flexible theme, such as spring, princess, pirate, car style, etc., rather than focusing on a cartoon character. Because children’s needs are constantly changing, they must be prepared to face changes at any time.

6. Wall selection

In addition to worrying about the healthy growth of their children, another common problem at home is that children like to draw on the wall, which only increases the trouble of cleaning. However, we don’t want to restrict their children’s creative intentions, and want them to play well. So, parents can consider using children’s paint. The main advantage of children’s paint is not only natural, healthy and antibacterial, but also easier to clean than other paints. In addition, parents can consider choosing a blackboard painted wall or a magnetic wall, which can also allow children to develop their creativity and make it easier for parents to clean.
