Hi shifus, Im currently renovating my 3 rm resale. 70% done. Quality of carpenter soso. Bochup switch off attitude from ID. Was thinking of firing her and engage a new ID to continue the job. Since it is half done, im open to change concept for the living room. Had paid a total of 20k for floor, bathroom, electrical, 90% capentry work in kitchen. I dont intent to pay the rest rest of the 30k. Is there a legal implication to it? Is it possible to change ID?

2014 has been filled with a lot of FIRST for me... With the purchase of my FIRST own's house, my FIRST reno experience (luckily a good one), my FIRST purchase at Taobao, my FIRST attempt at fixing up a lot of furnitures - bed frame, writing table, tv console, sofa and even thing like door knob, WHAT?!?! Indeed, the process can be tiring...confusing...maddening...heart wrenching. BUT, hang on there! I'm rather certain that the sense of satisfaction when you see the end product is beyond words. Now, come January 2015, a brand new year, a brand new start. I've finally settle down in my new abode, and can leisurely sip a cup of kopi gao while happily typing away. And yes, here it is...Ready, Get Set...HOME! Living room Work area in MBR Kitchen MBR

The Unveiling of our house flooring.. for my husband and i, it's so unique - simple but nice.. the pictures I took are not doing it justice. So our ID took out the corrugated paper to chemical wash the flooring. Finally, we get to see our flooring - and boy are we in love. It's our first home, first reno and all from scratch. We're pretty happy with the progress. It may not be all "WOAH" to many, but to us, this is home. This is what we've been waiting for. & it's beautiful. (but of course it's subjected; we might be bias because it's ours hehe) Without further ado: Our Flooring ( **please excuse the airfryer photobombing** The grouting is actually darker and grey in colour however due to the chemical wash, the grout colour came off as well hence our ID, Rae, told us that he will be touching up on the grouting. Sorry if i take bad pictures haha. I'm not sure if it's the first of its kind - border flooring like this. But I haven't seen it anywhere else .. either that OR I didn't google enough. However, we believe that somehow, it is the first of its kind. (Please Correct us if we're wrong ) and since I haven't seen any example of something like it, my husband and I are very glad it turned out as we had envisioned; i'd like to say we find it unique. Our humble abode isn't "showroom" kind, we like it to remain simple and not cluttered; therefore our flooring and lights will have to play a huge part to make it work.. oh and our furnitures too!

u want some for your new home to pickup some DIY know-how I rather learn nothing and enjoy a nicely renovated new home with family As mentioned in post#96, some of those defects are not within my DIY capability. Some will probably cost $1k to $2k to get fixed. The whole off-centered TV console & featured wall will cost more than $1k already...which I would rather dispose my floorstanding speakers and go for sound bar or smaller satellite speakers. BTW, any advice to polish the Quartz kitchen table top and solid surface vanity top? Mine are all very dull and come with white patches. I have tried white vinegar, mama-lemon dish washer and warm water on a small area of the quartz, but none seems to work. Found some recommended products in the US online store. Pls share if you know any similar and proven products sold locally. Thks!

Actually this is the an area I refuse to budge with my man. I was the one who insisted on R&R because I really like them. The quotation was barely inside our budget too and was higher than the other ID. Nonetheless, I feel reassured of their quality of work delivered. Judging from how I am so picky and still can find some of their workmanship parts that require to be rectified, it scares me to think what if I hire other contractors whose workmanship is shoddy. I think I will berserk. There may be some good contractors out there too, just that I find it very hassle free having my ID coordinating everything for me; even external vendors that she won't earn a cent from. It helped a lot since both of us are working. My external vendor includes: 1) service yard windows + slim grilles 2) curtains 3) electrical works 4) Citygas gas piping (ID did everything and arrange for appointment) 5) Delivery from taobao I guess I am paying a bit more for that extra service and quality workmanship but it saves me a lot of grief and headaches having to coordinate everything else. Anything else we are just going for the best and the cheapest, i.e. taobao.

Aircon fancoils were installed today! Quite happy with the results. Master bedroom: We will see a little bit of trunking here but not much. Study room: No trunking cos its back to back with the master bedroom. Living: My MASSIVE 24000 BTU unit. Cost we $200 more but we needed it since our house is so open. Open kitchen, dining, living, corridor to the rooms and even the WIW has no door. So... hope it's enough! So big that you can see it hang below the beam in the last shot. Well, that's mainly cos of the piping so no choice la. Have to box it up. Consequently, the box up with cover about 3 inches of my steel wall area but its ok. Just a small section. All these little issues that you can't predict or plan for. Sigh. OH! I noticed that the outdoor compressor, WAS NOT BOLTED IN PLACE I quickly called the ID cos i didn't want to be sued for killer litter!! But when the air con guy called me, it seems that its the norm not to bolt it in. He says you can, but every time you do maintenance, they will have to undo the bolt and they will charge you extra cos it's not easy to do. So far he has never had an issue with it and says that most people do it this way. True? Anyway, we are leaving it as it is for now. But I can say that I'm not going to walk under air con compressors anymore.

Ok, here are some pics of my toilets as requested. But pardon the lousy photography. I'm really quite bad at this. Common Toilet: See that masking tape in the second shot between the hand towel hanger and the toilet roll? Thats where they drilled wrongly. So replacing that tile will affect both accessories and they will have to be remounted. Love the stark contrast of the white porcelain with the dark tiles. Master Toilet: Thankful that I have a vanity ledge on which i could mount the toilet roll! And I simply love the bare bulb effect. Will most likely change the bulb to a normal LED bulb so its more energy efficient though. We use the toilet too much for it to be edison. My rain shower! WC, sinks and taps were from Heritage. Price wise extremely competitive. Great service from knowledgeable staff. Didn't have any issues with delivery too. Highly recommended. Shower items for both toilets were from Wasser bath. Products were good although price is somewhat higher than heritage. Service was a bit pushy though and could see she had a black face when we didn't get everything from her. So minus points. Still, service aside, everything else with them was fine.

Dum Dum DUUUUUUUUM!! Ladies and Gents, may I present.... THE DUNGEON! *cue wild applause and merry making* I'm super chuffed with it! It's not completed yet. They still have the door to add. Not to mention they will be welding on flat bars of steel over the border areas to make it pop more, and then adding on rivets on top of that to complete the piece. After that will be the touches of paint to add a bit of age and roughen the look up a bit. Currently the edges all have gaps, generously contributed by the famous irregular surfaces of a HDB flat. Of course I can't just blame the flat. Even the panels lines between the panels have gaps but these will all be sealed up so that my aircon won't leak out. The edges to the walls will be with Cornice plaster, and the bits between the metal will be with silicon. So so SO happy!! Have i mentioned that I'm totally in love with it? I'm totally in love with it!

I need 4 fans for my house and i am looking at something that is matt black. Can you share with me some of the brand that have matt black finishing? Also kindly indicate the price. If you can also share with me some catelog for the lighting it will be awesome. Thanks
