  1. Hi guys,

    My renovation is 98% done.

I am fully satisfied with my electrician. He is a flexible guy (in terms of price) and also in attitude. A very easy to talked to guy.

I bought ALL my lightings from TaoBao and some came in batches, my ceiling fans were from Tampoi in JB. He is OK to install bit by bit for me, example my first batch of lights came first, he sent his worker nearby to install just that batch for me, and he told me when next batch of lighting come, he send his worker come to install again. This is how flexible he is.

He doesn't even collect a single cent from me until my job is FULLY done. (You go around see which electrician will do that. Haha)

For those of you who want his contact, please PM me with your Name and Contact Number.

I will link you both up. :D

Just for reference his pricing (per point):

These prices are just for reference, trust me, can go lower

    • New Lighting point: $32
    • Single Point: $45
    • Double Point: $55
    • Install Lights: $10
    • Install ceiling fan: $50

    Disclaimer first:

I understand that many people in RenoTalk is afraid of self-promoting scams.

Due to the fact that there are too many self-promoting contractors, etc, I must say I am not a clone account nor this recommended electrician's self promoting. I am just a satisfied customer and I think I should share around the good work and helping anyone who is looking for a trust worthy electrician.

Just see my past posts and joined date can verify my profile already :D

  3. When did you message him? Actually when I messaged him, he read but didn't reply me too. But he got Mr E to respond to me after a few days. To be fair to Mr J, I think he doesn't read English very well. But it is true they currently have a number of projects on hand.

I typed in very simple English. I forgot when I message him, anyway does;t matter anymore. :sport-smiley-018:

It is basic courtesy to read and even reply a short "I will get bla bla bla to get back to you, or even a shorter "I am busy now"

I cannot tahan people not replying or calling back.

and you said it yourself, they have a couple of projects on hand. having so many people recommending them on renotalk, I wont be surprise they have more than 20 on hand.

I won't want a guy (or a pair of guys) that handles toooo many projects.

  4. I was quite excited after reading through TS T-blog with regards to contractor J, as mentioned by TS that his schedule is really full, projects he took in is full till Aug 2015, I still contacted contractor J as I was not in a hurry to move in.

Call him on 28 or 29th May, to check if he is available to take in another project, he can slowly take his time as I am in no hurry to move in, attitude was good although I know he is very popular and has many project on hand, I thought he will be the one. On 30th Jun, his assistance Edmund called me to confirm the appointment date and time, fixed on 6th Jun at 1pm at my place. Impressed once again by the swift reply.

On 3rd Jun, I called Edmund back to re-confirm the date and time, he says yup, its confirmed.

On 6th June, I reached my place at 12:50pm, waited till 1:10pm, called contractor J, he was in another project at CCK (my place is at Punggol), saying that Edmund had not remind him about our appointment. He said that he will check with Edmund and call me back. Few minutes later, Edmund called me back saying that there is a "mis-com", then I asked him if he remembers that on Wed, I did call him back to re-confirm the appointment, he say yes. Well then I say I dont think you guys can make it today. They gave me alternative to meet me in the evening but I was unable to make it as I need to be back by then to take care of my baby boy.

To me, once you've commited to an appointment, you have the responsibility to show up, if in any circumstances you are unable to, you should let the other party know in advance. Really disappointed with them, small things like that that you can overlook, how am I suppose to be able to let you renovate my house?

Maybe I unlucky... well, this is my feedback on contractor J, everything was fine till he did not kept his commitment.

that is the problem with ID/contractor that is too popular when everyone start asking for their contacts, in the past there are contractors that are very popular in renotalk and subsequently their reviews starts getting bad, too many projects to handle, cannot do the work properly

  5. Based on the initial quotation from Posh Home, I met up with my ID to discuss further on the details before proceeding into the 3D drawing.

Theme: I'm leaning towards Modern Contemporary for my living and bedrooms. For my kitchen, it's gonna be Industrial. For toilets, it's a mixture which I don't really know belongs to which theme... Haha

Fittings: Initially I thought of going for Excel fittings and soft closing but according to my ID, Blum prices are not far from Excel but I do know of some ID that charge a premium if you wanna go for Blum so Blum it is for my entire kitchen.

Electrical: Since Posh Home ties up with Eubiq and I got a good price, I'll be using their tracks for mainly kitchen, study area and master bathroom.

Laminate: My ID intro me to a few brands but one caught my eye. It's Berry laminate. Real wood laminate with water resistance and lifetime warranty and I get a cheaper than market price through my ID! Their website: http://www.berryalloc.com/cn/en

Lightings: I'll be getting some of my stuff from Taobao coz it's cheap! Most if not all my lights will be from Taobao. T5 LED tubes, LED downlights, LED strips, sensor motion lights and ceiling lights.

Ceiling Fan: This one is a no brainer, get ceiling fans from JB. I'm going for KDK fans so it is half the price in JB compared locally.

Switches and electrical sockets: This is also gonna be from Taobao.

Stay tuned for the next update, my 1st draft of 3D drawings....

I am also thinking of getting ceiling fan from JB Tampoi, are u buying from this shop ? perhaps our WWT2 people in the FB group can all go in together one day, haha.

  6. OK, before i continue with the design ideas, I'd share a little bit on the insane ID / Contractor search.

Sounds crazy but this is my 1st home so I want everything to be perfect plus I want to make sure that I can find the right person to be able to understand my concept and able to do up the designs that I have laid for them and most importantly, with the most reasonable price and the best chemistry between me, hubby and the ID / Contractor.

We started hunting for a contractor since last year July - August. A year before the expected keys collection. We have seen countless (I really lost track of the number as it was too many) no of Id / Contractor with my floor plan and an idea board with me every time I meet them. It was quite simple explanation as I laid all the pictures of my ideas in order and exactly how and where it should be placed. Weirdly, most of them do not understand what I am saying. Lol. As though I was speaking an alien language.

Fast forward, very few end up getting back to us but all the quotations were more than $60k. The rest went dead silent perhaps they don't need my $?? Only 1 of the ID that came back to us very promptly and the vibe was good from him right from the 1st meeting last September. He seems to understand everything that I said which is great and totally non pushy and don't mind the idea that we will only get the keys in July. The chemistry was good and we were very comfortable with him and we decided to have a second meeting with him just before CNY. After going through the details and again with more bargain, pens down, we signed the contract with him having all that we need within our budget. We will be meeting up with him again for our 1st deposit and further discussion next weekend and hope to be able to see some 3D by then.

Wow, you went to countless and only 1 came back with quotation. not to mention your budget is $40K (which I feel is actually reasonable).

I am at the stage of sourcing for my Mr/Ms Right person for my house. Therefore I am curious is it the fact that those IDs that you went to are from those big reputation companies ? thus their quotations are over $50K ? or because you required alot of stuffs to be done in the reno ?

Do elaborate about it, looking forward to your completed home, :good:

  7. Hahaha the places I went to was and they quoted me:

    Rezt & Relax (40k)

    Absolook (35k)

    ** (41k)

    In-expat (38k)

And one more in bedok which I forgot the name

Defong was never in my list actually. The difference why the price vary is due to each company's mark up and reputation. They have to get the materials outside thus they need to mark up for them to earn. But if you see the prices are very close to each other. And also of course the bigger the name of company means the more they spend on marketing. They need to earn it back too.

I kinda know what I want, so to be fair i gave the same requirement for all companies.

I compared the price from hacking to kitchen cabinets to wardrobe and of course to be consistent, all the same materials for each company.

I was ready to sign up for absolook and even went to their showroom, until a friend of mine told me about Kevin from Defong. He was full of praises for their workmanship and speed.

So I decided to see his house and indeed it was good. Then another friend so happened to collect her keys before me and also engaged Kevin and was also saying they're very good, so I thought of just meeting Kevin. I mean anything happen I have my absolook quotation that I'm comfortable with

After meeting him, he was nice and super prompt! And again I gave the same exact requirement and the same exact materials and same exact measurements

They came back with a quotation of 28k

So of course with friends testimonials and I see it for myself and my husband also likes his workmanship we went ahead with Kevin

I ended up topping up cos I wanted to add more things since I had extra budget. At the end after adding more things and upgrading materials used, I paid 29plus plus, close to 30k

And if you see my Reno timeline, they were really really fast.

On a side note a friend of mine went with absolook and she got her keys before mine (that's why I also end up shortlisting absolook cos of her), she started reno 2months before mine and I finished same time as her. Apparently her ID disappeared for a few weeks. Makes me feel thankful that I stuck with Kevin.

I mean it could just suay, or bad luck and not everybody at absolook is like that, but still there's that fear and risk

So yeah that's how it went :)

And thank you! We liked the combi of our kitchen too! :)

Yes this is the post I am sure alot of readers is waiting for. Haha.

The Selection and Reviews of IDs/Contractors.

Absolook has alot of supporters and their designs usually :good: , but price also :good::bleah:

Shall check out Kevin, and see if we can click and got chemistry :notti:
