  1. Hi there,

This is a very sparely used solid wood queen-sized bed frame. The bed is around 2 years old. We have this lying in the guest bedroom and used it less than 20 nights. Selling for $320. The frame can be dismantled quite easily.

New piece is selling at a GSS sale price of $845. See link below - it is the exact bed we are selling

  3. any advice?

Hi - I am using a Blanco kitchen sink. I bought my condo 2 years ago and the sink was part of the original flat (7 years old). No problems so far at all.

I renovated the kitchen - cabinets, flooring everything. But the ID and even the shop guy advised that Blanco is made in Germany and can last 10-15 years. So I decided to keep it. So far very good.

  4. My tenant from India rented my whole unit and shifted in on 1st January 2012 and we did a thorough cleaning with a cleaning company before handing over the unit. We had also stayed in my own unit for slightly more than 1 week before the current tenants moved in without having any issues.

On 1st Jun, the tenant’s agent called us regarding a bad infestation of bed bugs and wanted us to replace all the furniture + pest management service and be fully responsible for the beg bug problem in the house.

We refused because of several reasons after doing some homework and the below are quoted from Wikipedia:

Dwellings can become infested with bed bugs in a variety of ways, such as:

    ▪ Bugs and eggs inadvertently brought in from other infested dwellings by visiting pets,[37] or a visiting person's clothing or luggage

    ▪ Infested items (such as furniture, clothing or backpacks) brought in

    ▪ Nearby dwellings or infested items, if easy routes are available for travel (through duct work or false ceilings)

    ▪ Wild animals (such as bats or birds)[38][39] that may also harbor bed bugs or related species such as the bat bug

    ▪ People or pets visiting an infested areas (apartment, subway, movie theater, or hotel) and carrying the bugs to another area on their clothing, luggage, or bodies

With all the references above, how could anyone pin point that we were the ones who brought in the bed bugs? It would be very unfair to let the landlords bear the full consequences based on something indefinite.

Prior to this, the tenant engaged a pest management company on the 8th May with a follow up on 22 May and advised them to throw away all heavily infested mattresses and furniture. Apparently the tenant did not know what to do and only wrapped up the mattresses and continued to sleep on infested beds.

The tenant and agent met up with us a few days later and we came to a settlement whereby we will pay for the first pest control and replace 1 bed and the sofa if it cannot be salvaged. The tenant will pay for the subsequent pest control and replace the other 2 beds.

The pest control company came on 8th June and the tenant asked them how long the bed bugs have been there. He replied “1 or 2 months” and that bed bugs take about 1 month to multiply. Based on his answers, if we minus 3 months from June, it will be in March that the bed bugs came in. The tenant shifted in on Janurary, there are subsequent 2 months where nothing happened. That’s a few more reasons to think that it couldn't be us.

Today, 22nd June is the 3rd and the last treatment and the pest control guy said that there is a heavy infestation inside the parquet and asked us to replace all of it. It has put us in a very difficult position as we have already agreed to pay for the pest control and furniture, now we still need to pay for re-doing up parquet which is going to cost a bomb.

The tenant’s agent kept using the sentence on us “it’s fully the owners duty to keep the house in a tenantable condition”. How should we deal with such statements when it concerns of a pest, not a structural default or defect in the house?

Fellow readers, what will you do if you were in our shoes? Any good advice will be deeply appreciated.

While I don't have any experience with a similar issue, I am not sure how you are going to get the tenants to pay for parquet replacement. Is your objective to get the tenants to pay for the pest treatments as well? You may need to sit down and settle this. Indeed it is the responsibility of the landlord to keep the house in a tenantable condition. You may need to research on what this point means.

As far as pest control is concerned, have you tried getting a second opinion as well? I am in the management committee of my condo and in my limited experience, different pest control companies use different products with varying costs and vastly varying effectiveness. I am also surprised that the pest control company points out to the parquet infestation only at the 3rd treatment. Overall, might be useful to get a second or even third opinion.

Finally, I am not sure the of relevance of the tenants being Indian to the entire issue. Having it in the topic of your post is unnecessary and in my personal opinion, inappropriate. What are you trying to achieve with that really?

  5. Hi anyone using phillip living colours? It's a kind of table/floor lamp which can make the wall of your room to many different colours.Saw it at lighting.com.sg.any feedback? Thanks. :)

I am using it and its fantastic - very nice and fun, but not bright enough to be proper lighting. It is strictly for romantic\mood lighting. You are supposed to be able to link upto 6 sets together and use from the same remote, so presumably you can get it to be brighter.

I bought it a year and a half ago, so please note that there might be a newer model now.

  6. I am shifting my house on the 21st Jan from Outram Park to Simei, please send me your quotes. Require budget moving services. Prefer charges Truck or lorry wise rather than on the no. of items being shifted.

HI - You can try this company called "Advance Movers". I used them 3 times over the past 2 years and they are excellent. Good rates (I got quotes from 4-5 others) and very good service.

  7. hey guys,

initially a bought a philips soundbar then i was surprised when the subwoofer have to be connected to the soundbar by a wire, sales person told me is is wireless.

Ended up i went back to swap for an LG soundbar which has no wires to the sub. :P

Hi guys - no offense but when it comes to the soundbar, Yamaha is way better than the others. Philips is good but Yamaha is better. If you are an audiophile and are highly sensitive to sound quality, Yamaha is the way to go. Otherwise feel free to go with the Philips. The LG one (at least the model I checked about a year ago) was not as good as the other 2. So, in terms of sound quality, Yamaha > Philips > LG.

If you are going to connect the subwoofer to the soundbar with wires in any case, you may also consider a 5.1 system with 2 rear wireless surround spearkers. The 3 speakers in the front connected with wires.

Actually you can check cnet for reviews ;)

  8. Hi lonerwithaboner, I found the problem with my vibration. There were 3 nuts at the back of my washing machine that I was supposed to remove before usage. I didn't read the instructions before usage. Now that I removed it, the 'vibrating off the base' problem has been resolved. Hope this helps.

Hi Ahhiong, thanks for the update. Mine was installed by the Harvey Norman guys, so I wonder if this is the issue. Can't wait to get home and check this out tonight - haha. Thanks again!

  9. Hello thx1138

I didn't buy EWF10741. Bought EWF1082 (8 kg) instead. So far so good for the last 2 weeks. But my washing machine 'vibrate' off its base when spinning at 1000 rpm!! Wonder what did I do wrong during the setup?

My 3 month old washing machine also like that, but thankfully has not vibrated off yet. During the spin cycle at 1000rpm, it is kind of crazy. I am so sure one of these days it will fall off. Scary!

  10. Facing the same crappy issue as well. Was contemplating those hydraulic solution u mentioned but after a round of careful thoughts, deduced the said solution was just not worth for $$. My kitchen area is just too small. Though good enough to mount the said solution but its too 'stretch'. Would prolly dry at my balcony.

How about those simpler wall mounted solutions in Howard's Storage or something? But these are not THAT sturdy, but probably enough for small condo (which I assume also means fewer people and clothes ;P)

  11. Hi Everyone,

I need some help here. My new place has some automated programming for the light switches, using Hager and Clipsal switches\systems.

Problem is, some of them don't seem to be working so I need to get it "re-programmed". The electrician doing my renovation could not help with this.

Now I have approached the original company (Wizdenki) which did it for the condo but they are referring me to their "partner" company since they only do at project level. The partner company, Intellihome wants to charge $120 per hour.

I have no idea about this "programming" thing and its the first time I have encountered it. Could you guys please advise - (i) is it ok to re-program this - will spoil again? and (ii) are the rates quoted by intellihome normal?

I would appreciate any inputs any of you might have regarding this as I have no experience with this at all. Thanks very very much in advance :)

  12. anyone know where to gets those hanging holder for wine glass? ikea says they have dis-continued to bring this in...

Can find only the holder for the cups in Howard's storage and also in Sim Siong Choon.

I am looking for the metal rods\poles to attach to the ceiling - like in a bar - does anyone know where to find that - hopefully a whole set can just install to the ceiling and can have the glass rack all that!

    Please help!
