  3. I am not sure if this shop, Astoria Floral Design and Landscape, still carries such fountains. It is the floral shop in Thomson Plaza, #01.

They used (wah, it was like 2 years ago) to carry these angelic garden items including water fountain. You may want to try to call them @ 6457-0114 before heading down.

Thanks, went down to take a look since its near my office, they do have some new angelic garden items, but don't really prefer it. Thanks for the suggestion !

  4. dont think the shop there sell this style of fountain

Yeah, you are right, that shop sell cornice and very nice European style decoration, no water fountain. Just find out over last wkend. Thanks for the info though. :)

  5. does anyone know a good handyman who can install basic shelves, hang up paintings, install blinds and do other odd jobs around the house? what are the charges like and do they work by the hour or by the task?

You can try to call Allan Teh, he helped me to install my TV, and did a very good job ( $40 for a 42 inch TV ). His contact is 82546651, call him and ask for the exact charges to your job. :thumbs up:

  6. Hi

Does anyone know where can I get this water fountain ? Or anyone selling it ? The shop that sold this had sold the last piece and told me that currently they will not import it as the supplier had also run out of stock.

    Thanks in advance :)

  7. I think most contractor/ID will tell u that this is very not cost effective as it will be slightly cheaper than redo a new cabinet only.

Actually my ID told me its more cost-effective to re-skin ware-robe if its in good condition. Remember, if you remove it, you had to add in removal charges. If your ware-robe is OK, then I suggest you go for re-skin. Its faster, and just as good. Remember, you may not live there for very very long, so why waste the $$ to redo so many things ?

FYI, I re-skin my kitchen cabinet, ware-robe and its still look as good as its was 5 yrs ago. I am glad I did not waste $$ to redo it....

  8. haha.. okie, we did check out the online catalogue before, but nth much appealed out.. tink we'll go look thru again.. we hate it when there are so many choices n so difficult to choose! ask ID ah? tink Henry is more of a practical person and advices base on his experiences.. mayb i'd check w him too la.

    thanks!

decals are a cheap option! u should check dem out online if u're interested! lots of designs too!

    =)

    thanks alot though!

Haha.. I had the same problem of hating to chose when there is too many choices. But then again, its a 1 time pain only :)

A suggestion, just go to Plaza Singapura Goodrich shop, ask for the catalog and take your time to browse thru. After a while, you & your wife will know what you all like. Then just zoom into that particular type of design. The retail assistant there are nice people, they will not bother you when you are choosing, and they had pictures showing how the wall look like when done up with different wallpaper.

After I did wallpaper to my 1st & especially 2nd house, I sort of prefer wallpaper to decal. If you chose a good installer and nice wallpaper, it bring out the luxury and depth of the wall. This is what "feature" wall is all about to me, 1 look and it is the center of attraction of the house.

Think about it, when you go 4 or 5 start hotels or some higher class places, the wall is usually put with wallpaper ( & seldom decal ), there must be a reason why they did that. With correct lighting and simple accessories, they make the whole place feel much more "exclusive". This, I learnt from my ID, who had been doing a lot of renovation for high end SPA and hotel, he taught us that this is how to make the house look more different from others.

    Just my view and thoughts.

  9. =============================================================================

    Hi

Nice and smooth reno journey you had. Just a suggestion, have you thought of using wallpaper for your foyer ? I think the effect will be very different as compare to the orange warm wall. I had seen some house with orange color and wallpaper, personally feel the wallpaper bring out a more different and warm feeling. Just my views.

All the best for your final renovation ! :thumbs up:

wallpaper? u mean those plain coloured ones or those w patterns? we're tinkin of puttin on decals for this wall to make it more vibrant. haha. or do u mean plain coloured wall paper would look better than plain colour wall?

I think those with pattern will look nicer, no point putting plain wallpaper, it will not bring out the "feeling". For the wallpaper, you can always go to Goodrich or search online to see the catalog and pattern, then find the cheapest available.

Need to ask your ID what type of pattern will bring out the feeling of warmth and yet blend in well with your renovation. For decals, I did not do it before, so you may want to check with your ID too which is a better option.

  11. Thought sealing up of ventilation above door is consider acceptable....

There are usually 2 ventilation in the bomb shelter, its OK to seal up 1 of them ( as what I did ), but for the other one, it must be left in original condition. I think there are some guideline in the HDB website which you can check. Usually the ID also not sure ( else why he seal up both my ventilation ?? )

  12. thank merydith

rememeber to take pic and show us your beautiful place when u finish unpacking okie

Hi Timtim, all your photos had been removed or deleted, wonder can u post it up again ? I am doing European style too, will share with everyone once its done up. Curious to see how other house turn out to be...

    Thanks ! :thumbs up:

  13. Some pics below:

Kitchen - we decided on Matt laminates, not sure if that's a good idea. Black and White theme as well (colors to be changed in next meeting).

    63793919.jpg

Living Room - Right on the money.

    83673499.jpg

The rest of the 8 3D perspectives need to be recolored, but at least everything's more or less there. Good progress all things considered.

Also found out she's getting married on Saturday, so being able to run through all the designs and so on while preparing for her wedding must be quite tough. Since we have a soft spot for these things, all is forgiven. And the wife really clicks well with her, so we'll be staying with this ID, I guess. Let's hope the workmanship is good!

Hi, very nice 3D pictures you had, wish you a good renovation.

Just to share with you a small point when I see your living room, I had a similar concepts like yours and small living room. I had some regrets as the TV is too near to my sofa, you can't really enjoy the whole wide screen ( unless you are getting 32" TV or smaller ), & it feel cramp when there are more than 3 people.

I would suggest you try to make the arrangement such that the TV & sofa are more space apart to enjoy the show and feel less cramp.

Just my 2 cents point of view :)

  14. try to purchase from the 'creative wall decal' website, their prices are cheaper, but need to DIY. :)

Hi, I am selling some extra wall paper which I just brought after installing some of them.

If you are keen, you can take a look at my posting at Garages Sales and Exchange folder, under "Beautiful New Wallpaper for Sale". Or you can PM me directly ( or call 90903190 ) to view the effect of the wallpaper on the wall and then decide whether to get it or not.

    Thanks

  15. anyone know where can I find a variety of water fountain for home decoration? I am looking at those middle size (not table placing one) one. I saw some at taka but very ex... around S$600 - S$700...

My budget is around 300... Is it possible to get one at that price?

    I need some advise...

    thank you.

Hi I just shop around for water fountain today along Upper Thomson Road, opposite Mac Reservoir ( near Far East Flora )

There are a few shops selling nice water fountain, cost around $200 - 300 depending on size and craving.

Another place I know is Thomson Shopping Ctr, there is 1 shop ( can't remember the name ) at level 1 selling flowers and water feature, you can take a look there too, place is reasonable.

    Happy Finding ! :D

  16. I chose the stones on the left, stones on the right were delivered instead. However, the order number of the stone I chose was on the packet of stones delivered. Harfary said it's due to batches, it comes like this, cos they are natural stones.

Can the stones evolved in colour of such drastic change? Either that, or I'm colour blind, which makes my job as a lowly engineer credible now...

    http://a.imageshack.us/img828/2710/pebblestones.jpg

I suggest you go for a refund or bang their table. I ever buy pebble stones which is on the left as in your picture, and for 5 yrs, my stones did not evolve to whats on the right. Actually till today it still look pretty much like the 1st day I brought.

  17. Do i need to be present for the inspection? As in, what if the twon council mentioned A to Z, and the seller only done A?

ALso, for buyers, do u all check the pipings etc from the upstairs, downstairs neighbour or you engage a Certified Engineer etc to check?

What to look out for beyond just the big chucks of walls?

Just share my experience as I sold my house about 1 mth ago. When the town council inspector came b4 1st appt to inspect, only seller need to be present. No point in the buyer be present too.

For my case, I need to remove a platform in my room and put the air-ventilation at the store-rm back to original condition. The inspector then come back to inspect again and give the "green" light. If its not done, I think during the 1st appt, the HDB officer will not allow the deal to proceed on. So buyer just sit back and relax.

I am not sure about inspecting the pipings, but I think its not needed, if it really leak from upstairs, the town council / HDB shall rectify it b4 you take over the house.

For buyer, b4 the 2nd appt, just go down to the house, take a look to ensure there is no major defects or problem before closing the deal. I can assure you, once the deal is done, the seller won't bother to fix anything ;)

  18. Hi,

We have hired a contractor for our flat renovation but we are running out of ideas for the hall design.. Pls suggest on how to make this hall have a more modern look. The image url is below..

    http://yfrog.com/jxdsc00843mj

I suggest you go and take a look at IKEA showroom, or browse thru some house magazine, read thru the reno blog here to get an idea how you want your house to be.

Anyway since you had already got your contractor, my suggestion

1 ) First decide a theme you want, simple, modern, baliness, European, china-oriented or ...

2 ) Decide 90% how you want to place your furniture, whether to have feature wall, or custom made design like pillars, wall colors ( Modern may be black & white, Baliness may be gold and brown )

3 ) Scout for the right furniture ( like Baliness style is more with wooden color with nice carving, modern may be more leather type sofa, simple theme may require u to get metal type of coffee table , etc ),

4 ) Select the right lighting design for your living room, where to place the light to bring out the best effect,

5 ) Accessories - like curtain color, carpet, and wall paper on certain part. Like for Baliness, you may want to add a water fountain, for Modern, an abstract Art picture

6 ) Decide also whether to hack your floor to choose a nice tile to bring out the effect, laminate it

Honestly for me, I think designing is better left to pro ( aka ID Designer ) who will tell you how the combination of colors, furniture, lighting will bring out the best effect for you. I heard a few stories from my friends that what they intend to design and what it turn out, is quite different after the contractor do it for them. I am not a creative person, so I believe my ID more than myself :D

No worries, be confident in yourself and just enjoy the process of designing ! ;)

  19. Hi all,

I'm looking for recommendations on companies whom can customize and build water features.

Preferably those whom have experience in doing landscaping/water features in HDB. Thanks in

    advance for all your help!

Are you doing very complicated water features ? If not, I have 1 simple water feature for sale, with pebbles, slab and water pump throw in. You can DIY yourself for less than $100. If you are keen, PM me or search for water feature under Garage Sale to see the water fountain I am selling. Thanks ;)

  20. You are very "kiasu" :D , now is definitely too early to do any quotation, as prices will change within months not to mention years ;) But I can understand the excitement of getting new house and doing renovation. My suggestion is that you source for everything around Nov / Dec 2011, it will be just nice.

My house is actually renovate base on Baliness Resort Villa theme ( but very simple ), you can view the renovation done at this website : http://www.samloproperty.com/recentsales.aspx?pid=13688, click on the Redhill Close icon. Its a 4 rm flat.

If you like it, I can share with you more on my budget, and where I get all those furniture and can also recommend you the ID. I would say he did it very well and beyond our expectation.
