  1. Hi All,

We got a plumber (recommended by town council) to change the kitchen main pipe, prior to doing-up of the kitchen cabinets.

However we suspected the pipe was not well-sealed with the floor and thus there was high moisture and the occassional smell..

The moisture is so bad that a few of the metal hinges in the kitchen cabinet have rusted. :(

The plumber is agreeable to replace the pipe for us, but we have to arrange for contractor to dismantle the kitchen table-top n cabinets ourselves. The cost of dismantling will be bore by us too..

As the pipe was done months ago, it's really difficult for us to hold the plumber responsible.

Another option is to open a hole in the cabinet, for the worker to apply sealant at the pipe bottom.. which we are unsure if that works.

    Any advice?

Getting contractor to do a small job of cutting hole in the cabinet is tough.. while dismantling the whole kitchen-top is really too costly and troublesome..

    Pls help!

    Thanks...

  2. Hi kaym,

Did you manage to resolve the problem in the end? Was it easy applying the sealant urself?

    Thanks

Geez... I had the same problems too whenever there is heavy rain..

Does shelleys blockade spread out easily over a big area? Or does it come out like toothpaste? I worry that one canister may not be enough for length of balcony window? Does all homefix branches stock shelleys?

  3. Hi Noble,

Thanks for the advice. Will take note.

Somehow the jamming problem is gone lately.. Perhaps due to contraction of the wooden door in recent colder temperatures.

    Hopefully it stays this way!

Re-install the doorway onto it's hinges, and determine if the doorway swings readily closed.

  4. Hi,

Anyone changed HDB fire-rated door before?

    Any recommendation?

My door tends to jam at the door-frame. :(

Some of the rivets at the door frame are coming out..

Or anyone has a contact for fixing the door back?

    Thanks!

  5. Hiya,

My HDB main door has the same problem too.

It tends to jam at the top corner of the door-frame, resulting in difficulty in closing the door.

7mths back, we had the edge of the door filed and the door-jamming problem disappeared.

But the same issue came back recently.. :(

We don't on the aircon in the living hall. And yes, I saw a long crack (abt 20cm) at the door too.

Already had the cracked filled with putty..

Anything else we can do? :help:

Anyone changed their HDB fire-proof main door before??

    Thanks!

  7. Hi Toot,

We got the chandelier from Chan Huat - 343/343A Balestier Road (the branch that is next to the famous Bak Ku Teh shop)

    Costs $360.

But back then, that was only one left. They might have brought in new stocks though. :)

It was my pleasure too to share my happiness, frustrations and contacts/lobangs with fellow RT members :D

    :yamseng:

Hey Star Dust. Chanced upon your "T blog" and read everything from the start. Really awesome with all the details and sharing even addresses and prices for furnitures with fellow members. Thank you! The whole process you shared is lovely and happy for your new nest =)

  9. Hi Absolut, noted on the contact. thks ;)

TS, not sure if you're still in need of the wall mural/painting above your bed but I know of a local company that does that and similar artwork.

Can try to contact them, Living with Art Singapore, 63583672 :paint:

  10. Heya. Thks for the compliment!

The laminate issue actually got worse AND better at the same time!

The bumps have amazingly disappeared.. but one of the prank edge has also gotten jadded and 'crumpled', which wasn't in such a bad sate earlier.

We were okay with the bumps but not the jadded edge that is an eyesore and safety hazzard.

No choice, we'll be getting the contractor to repair /redo that area.. gonna cost us slightly over a hundred bucks :(

yep, will squeeze the mop really dry!! :D

Hey hey! Glad to see your house coming up so nicely, especially the little touches! Hope the laminates issue has been resolved now. Don't worry too much about the edges, over time you will feel the bumps less. From time to time, I still see them on my floor, but I realise that after a while (and especially when there are more important things--like Clearing Up Cat Puke For Five Days Straight) you kind of forget about it!

Just remember that when you mop the laminates, wring that mop really dry before you start. Cheerios!

  11. I also prefer metal over plastic anytime. Personally, I tink plastic are too 'toy-lish' :P

Read more magazines and t-blogs! But I tink budget does play a big part too..

hahah...we have a very EX hobby...

    That's why I left w not much $$$ to do reno...haha 8|

I mainly collect Chogokin, esp the robots that can combine. Transformers..i only collect the diecast one..dun like the plastic one, though plastic ones have a high "playability".

Ya...not started yet and dun know when. :( I'm too interviewing the IDs and seeking my reno direction. :dunno:

  12. Yeah.. me collecting anime figurines and die-cast model cars. The no. of figurines I have is kinda few though as it is really a exp hobby to maintain!

    I bet you'll understand. ;)

Chogokin look very nice too! I always love their shiny, metal surfaces..

I have a fren whom is very much into Chogokin too.

so u keep Mazinger, Transformers series?

Just read your blog that ur reno haven't started yet.

Looking forward to seeing your collection then! :D

    Wow...shui!! :dribble:

so u into anime figurines. Hehe...i'm collecting Jap toy robot....Chogokin!!! :yamseng:

Hope i can get a good display cabinet to showcase them.

  13. Hello zer0sg!

Kudos for your daring and out-of-the-box layout! Noticed that there is alot of hacking.

But I think lack of storage space will be a concern.. since your don't have any store-room.

As for kitchen top cabinets blocking out the lights, you can choose brighter colors for your cabinets. That will certainly help to make the area look bigger.

I understand the ceiling beams will block out the light too.. My kitchen has that too.

I had considered combining my 2 toilets into 1 too, but aborted the idea that there may be instances where both need to use toilet at the same time. Well.. when nature calls (urgently), one can't control much. :P

    Just my 2c worth. :yamseng:

Finally!!! I've finished the layout of the house. I took almost 2 weeks and many hours of brainstorming and measuring the actual place over and over again.. Here's the floorplan of the idea in my head!!

    confirmedlayout.jpg

    1) Created an artificial "foyer" at the entrance. Not sure whether to use different colour tiles for that small area - will it look weird? The recess under the windows with a depth of 16cm - thinking of creating a stone wall design with sleek shelves pure for aesthetics. Thats a KIV though.

    2) The study-cum-living-cum-work room. Decided to utilised the recess under the windows as leg space for my suspended study table and because i am unable to hack the piece of wall in that room (due to the TV antenna signal cable which is locate there) I thought of hiding it in a book shelf (which faces the study table...)

Right the the corner is a recent idea - a small half sofa ? Basically same design and pattern as the one in the lviing room but half. Was thinking of lounging there to watch videos on my computer or read a book.

    3) The Living Room. Walls pushed back to create more space between sofa (its not an L shape... the leg rest portion is retractable) and the 46 inch TV console...

Dining area is right under the beam (will be installing lights underneath) a forummer once advised... love your beams and you will start to have good ideas with them in mind...

4)An open concept kitchen - am toying with the idea of not having and top cabinets for the sink / induction cooker area... something different and less cramping. Would get a single hob induction just to boil water ...

2 door fridge / microwave / oven / cabinets etc etc blahblah and we have the dryer/washer stack next door

An semi hollow block wall is erected to cordon off that area - for 2 westies..... thinking of bathing them there as well... may have to install a mini shower head at the back.

    5) ~the new toilets~

Have decided the combine the toilets into one and do an extended dry vanity for storage and well... vanity purposes. =)

The wall inbetween MBR and toilet will be hacked completed and replaced glass - bigger shower area, opens up the space.

    6) The ROOOM

Entrances are from the bathroom area or the study area. whereby the "white colour walls" are full length mirrors.... and the slimmer one - is a sliding mirror door which opens up into 2 parallel wardrobes ... Will use the beam that follows after the wardrobes to install curtains .... a temporary "storeroom"... when you need to do some last minute tidying for guests coming over... =)

A king sized bed with leather storage bed bed and half height plushie head board (dark colours complimenting the parquet flooring) and a settee create at the corner (the window there is rather longish... very suitable for a bay window effect... frthermore.. i've already erected a new wall there...)

    Any comments? =)))

  14. Book-cabinet Loaded

The shelf-space was split quite evenly btw me and WTB.

She loaded in her old textbooks, notes & love novels (言情小说)... while I house my DVD/CD collection there.

Fortunately, my parents asked me to leave my text & notes at their place. Otherwise, the book cabinet definitely won't be enough for us! :P

img0887gn.jpgGeez.. so many to keep.. Looks like digital storage is the most practical approach to take. :D

  15. More acquisitions for the Kitchen

img0889ni.jpgA stainless steel kettle as I do not trust plastic ones with the boiling water temp!

We also got a water container which its color matches perfectly well with our green-white cabinets! :yeah:

img0890hh.jpgWTB's conventional oven for her baking. Yum Yum :dribble:
