  1. Hey Ks,

Yess. U r absolutely right! after much discussing, we are going to drill thru the beam and secure the hook to the beam using bolt and nut. =)

This will be very secure.. that's what everyone been assuring.. *cross fingers*

The carabiner is to hook the chain of the chain together to prevent it from moving too much on the hook. =) It is small but tried on the chain and it went thru. =) hehe

thanks alot for your help. Next week will get the swing up. Will update once it's done up.

  2. wow!!! amazing layout!! It's huge! think I saw this while i was hunting for EM. Ard Sin Ming area right? upstairs no room?

The last one I saw was the living hall was upstairs with one room but no toilet and the ceiling height was extremely high for the 2nd floor. Is it something similiar? =)

looking forward to see what you are going to do with it!! =)

    When is the first appointment?

*PATS* Actually it looks okay!! What is opposite the toilet bowl, just the sink? Or showers? Your door doesn't go all the way to the top of the toilet?

I must say I like the black painted pipes! I had the same idea as well to paint all my big pipes black. If you can't hide them might as well show them off. :)

    hey ricepapergirl,

not really ok.. =( opposite the WC is the mini sink and tap. :( the door is not able to go all the way up due to the pipe.. all in all.. super cramp..really regret +++. shld have expanded out more the toilet.. now just have to live with it.

haha.. yeah the pipe is nice.. but kind of weird coz the color change when it got connected to the WC.

Don't worry. The steel of the ceiling hook I showed you (picture above) is thicker than the steel of the chains of your swing (which I saw above). Your swing chain will break first before this hook breaks. I use two of these hooks to secure my frangipani tree which is in danger of falling to one side. I thought I wrote something about this on my blog but I now I cannot find it. To my horror, I also realised that my Table of Contents (first page) has been truncated (not by me). Did this happen to anyone else?

Anyway, this is how I secure my tree using the hooks.

What you should be more concerned is whether your beam can support your swing and how you are going to secure this hook to the beam. Assuming the beam can support the weight of your swing, then the most important part is the securing part. If you can find a "n" steel bracket to go over the beam and bolt the hook to this "n" bracket, that will be strongest. Otherwise you will have to weld or bolt this hook to the beam. This may be the weakest link.

If you look at the way your swing is hung at the shop, it uses a small hook with a single bolt. The hook I showed you is bigger and with two bolts. You will need two hooks i.e. 4 bolts. In my case, I use expansion bolts to secure my hook to the ceiling slab.

You should be able to get ceiling hooks from any hardware store. I bought mine from Lida Hardware at Bedok Simpang, near my house.

Check out my blog! --> http://www.renotalk.com/forum/topic/62505-top-kew-drive/

    Hey Ks,

what do u mean by "n" steel bar?

I managed to get the hooks you mentioned and we did explore a few possibilities. #1 drill a hole thru the metal beam and use expansion bolts x 2 and the fan hooks to secure. #2 to wield a metal steel bar and wield both the "fan hooks" onto the steel bar to support the swing. (though it's not very heavy but just in case)

After much discussion and some friends are quite concern so we decided to go with option 2. it's quite costly to do so but for the safety.. we have to go ahead. hope this will work out. *cross fingers*

    thanks alot for your advise.

Day 15: More tiling and windows changed!

Another batch of photos through whatsapp! Exciting to see things moving! :D

    IMG-20160412-WA0006.jpgIMG-20160412-WA0004.jpg

Tiling looks complete for the MBR toilet! Yay! I think Andrew was trying to show off the floor tiles for the MBR with that second picture. I also see the drainage covers in, one at the dropdown shower area and the other in the old area! :D

    IMG-20160412-WA0002.jpg

Looks like only the wall tiles are mostly up for the common toilet on level 2!

    IMG-20160412-WA0000.jpg

A slightly different design for the first floor kitchen toilet! Looking good!

    IMG-20160412-WA0001.jpg

Wood-like tiles for the kitchen floor being laid! It's been so long since we picked out these tiles I actually couldn't remember what colour they were supposed to be... :P

    IMG-20160412-WA0008.jpg

Also, what used to be tiles at the vertical bits of our staircase (the horizontal bits are parquet and is being covered up) have been plastered over and to be painted!

    IMG-20160412-WA0011.jpgIMG-20160412-WA0012.jpgIMG-20160412-WA0003.jpg

New windows also up in the three bedrooms! They used to be sliding windows but we asked for new casement ones.

    IMG-20160412-WA0014.jpgIMG-20160412-WA0017.jpgIMG-20160412-WA0015.jpgIMG-20160412-WA0013.jpg

Also windows have been replaced for the kitchen, two top-hung for the bathrooms upstairs (kitchen toilet has no window, only a ventilation hole lol!) and new frosted glass sliding windows for the dining room which faces the corridor!

Nice nice!! your wood look alike tiles int he kitchen is nice! =)

    Hi @twinklecloud!

Actually we already picked out all our lights and our fans (my fast hand fast leg reputation) previously so we're probably heading down to Chan Huat at one shot and order everything. Really hoping the dining room light I wanted is still in stock!! Still waiting to see your blog though!! :)

Yeah we probably have to go down to one of the Song Cho and just check what stock they have and whether we can pre-order anything they don't have currently in stock. Fortunately still have time... :D

:jawdrop::jawdrop::jawdrop:U r indeed fast hands and legs!!! lol. I tot u are still shopping for lights and fans!

Awww thank you!! Grout occupies my mind quite a bit sadly enough, comes from years of having to spend weeks before CNY to scrub lines and lines of mouldy grout in my family's toilets until they turn white again. My mom was quite picky and I enjoyed seeing the toilets transformed with white grout but the back-breaking work was not fun. Andrew sounded surprised that I didn't want white grout in the toilet but I was thinking with the white grout the white hexagonal tiles wouldn't show as hexagons anymore then what's the point right lol. So it's cement grout throughout the toilet (cos my floor tiles are grey) and in the living room as well (cos the tiles are cement-like) and black grout for the subway tiles in the kitchen because that grout would REALLY get dirty very quickly.

Although you always say I very fast hand fast leg but even now as the reno starts properly we find we don't have many weekends to do proper shopping! So this weekend not only do we have to find and buy toilet bowls x 3 and sinks x 3 but we also wanted to settle all of the lights and the fans as well. And haven't even get to buying the toilet accessories yet! Hahaha hopefully everything will turn out well.

Yes! That's the same feeling I get from Andrew, very dependable, tries his best, always helps to think of solutions even before you spot the problem. I remember when I was touring your place last time he stopped one of the guys and asked whether can reroute the electrical piping to be less obvious after a while.

    Hey ricepapergirl,

yeah. He is the type who will make initiative and take the first step to solve most problems.. However for my house there are too many things and some he had never encountered before.. nevertheless, he did not reject when i asked him for help.. he will still try and find out how to solve the issue. This is something admirable but hor.. i find him super naggy sometimes.. :D

  9. So far the house is progressing well, we met with issues along the way and we try to solve it as it comes. Having this ID really helps alot. HE is one who will help us resolve issues and try his best to solve it well, there are times he is clueless too but he will still give advise if possible and also find out how to solve it. This is something I really like about him. Not many ID i spoke to has this kind of attitude! Kudos to him!

  10. hey ricepapergirl! great to hear from u!! hehe.

yeah super bad experience from them. vomit blood ++

We are still waiting for the balcony boss to go down and have a look and see what he can advise. *cross fingers*

but thanks for the suggestions!! i think last resort will be what u suggested get a bar up and hang from there.. =(

last few items before cleaning up and handing over! hehe
