  1. Hihi MaCe,

I needed some help regarding cleaning of the paint off my bathroom wall tiles.

As we painted the whole house ourselves, my dad accidently painted some wall tiles while painting the ceiling of the bathroom.

Other than using tinner to scrub off the wall tiles, any other strong detegents which i can use to scrub off the paint easily?

U had mentioned using acetone, will it be advisable to use that to scrub off?

It will be tedious as i need to climb up the ladder to scrub off the paints.

    Regards

thinner is usually what pple will recommend - cos it wont cause any other disasters(see below).

acetone = can remove lots of stuffs(stains, paint, oil stains...etc) but it melts plastics!!! 1 drop alone will see your plastic discoloured/damaged. use acetone with a lot of care. if got paint on your aluminium/steel windows or grill can use acetone also. NEVER on plastics.

After my renovation completed there were lots of unknown stubborn stains on my tiles - tried nearly everything available in NTUC, scrub like a old maid - yet the stains minimises only by 10-30%. When i use acetone - I only need to wipe it off once and stains are gone.

  2. may i ask where to get downlights w/o ballast? i asked my friend, he said all got ballast, really confused now...

    thx for help.

it's everywhere. downlights that uses energy saving bulbs.

bulb burnt, change bulb. cos the ballast is inside the $5 energy saving bulb.

choice is - replace a $5 bulb or

remove the downlight or pull out the wires and replace the $15 ballast?

if you dont know how to change - got to pay for a electrician to do it for you some more.

  3. 1)hack n retile whole house plus 3 toilets and 1 kitchen and balcony

3x toilets already 9k, kitchen at least 4k-5k, ground and 2ndflr at least another 12k

    2)change windows and grills

this is actually the cheapest. if windows are from hdb, keep it.

I didnt do grill for MBR, if Mr spiderman can climb in, he can have everything.

no grill(cage for balcony) , only do grill separating livingroom and balcony.

    3)rewire whole house

    below 3k

    4)2 wardrobes in mbr

    subjective - from 2k onwards

    5)1 kitchen cabinet

    subjective - from 2k onwards.

    6)paint whole house

    below 3k

    reminds me of smoked salmon.

  7. I am doing away with the fridge base. If you don't wash your kitchen floor like the 70's, you probably won't need one.

Moreover, if you don't have a fridge base, you won't size consideration when you change your fridge in future.

    agree.

it's one of those monkey see monkey do thing that refuse to die with the IDs/contractors.

unless you want to wash your kitchen ala hawker centre style.

  8. Any fengshui master can help...

    1. is it ok if a bedroom door is facing the kitchen? actually directly facing partly the ref and the kitchen exit door..

    2. our other door is also facing the kitchen, directly faces the stove? is it ok?

    3. our common bathroom also faces the kitchen sink. is it also ok?

What are the cures/remedies of these? please help...

    1) partly is ok - if worried - put a partition/curtain.

    2) what door? bedroom door?

    3) no worries.

    kitchen = fire

  9. Out of topic here, so you guys change the flush to half and full flush? DIY or get plumber?

Any recommended flush button/pump to get or method to reduce the water wastage?

get plumber - proper job done. DIY only if you know how.

    $50-$60 to change (including parts)

  10. 3 small ways that will definitely cut your PUB $$$ guranteed, stamp, chop, signed, thumbprinted.

    1) never put any electrical/electronics on standby - that small little light blink blink for 24hours eats into your bill.

    manufacturers claimed it's only 1watt per hour - but lots of pple already tested...some are up to 5watts per hour.do your math. 24hrs x 30days x 365days.....

    2) never use a electrical thermo pot.

    3) never use a electrical water kettle.

  11. hi all...

do you think Ho Bee would entertain minor constructions of erm.. wall bookshelves and such?

I am in desperate need of shelves as I currently use Ikea's but those cannot hold the weight of the books.

Or, would anyone know of affordable wall cabinets?

no harm giving him a call. and make sure you tell him that you have a small library.
