  1. Building contracts in S'pore follows the standards laid out by Singapore Institute of Architects Conditions of Contract (insider's call them the 'SIA Conditions of Contracts). For example, how your contract will be properly written out (conditions & scope of work), how payment will be assessed and made, how addition/omission work will be assessed and made. You may want to google and read them up first before commiting to your Architect.

Adding on to what Jedas had already written, the Quantity Surveyor also represents an independant party when it comes to assessing and making of payment to your contractors; as well as taking an impartial stand in the event of contractual disputes.

Let's say, if the Architect, Quantity Surveyor and Contractor, are all the same 'person', where's the transparency ?

  2. Coincidently, we are sleeping in the bedroom which is not the masterbedroom, and the MBR is our study and wardrobe;)

The arrangement has nothing to do with FS. What we want to achieve is a giant room. So knocked MBR and adjoining bedroom into one large room. This can be the solution for u if u must observe the FS practice.

  3. 2 spare rooms in fact :P

1 we converted into guestroom, all fully furnished. Frens stay over after drinking-nites ;) Other times is cat's room with her palace inside.

The other we covert into 'beautiful' storeroom, nice shelves, open door, etc... we only stored one luggage for fren (free of course).

  4. One room we custom-made settee by the window.

The other room we fixed one ikea single-shelf to the space under baywindow, then throw big cushions on the floor.

And another room had full-height window, so we just threw big cushions on the floor.

Its unconventional layout. Just make the most out of it la instead of fretting ;)

    Here's the fotos...

Settee. Left being bedside, right being book shelves.

Open shelf under bay window. When there's no guest, tis is cat's room. Thus all books removed.

Last has nothing. Just empty floor with big cushion.

Hope tat gives u some ideas. I like space simple and empty- Less is Best ;)

  5. No....Compassvale Road, BLK 258 next to MRT.

You got similar design? How do you utilize the "triangular" corners?

  6. hi rummi, long time no 'see'

actually i like the DIY stuff better

check out the blog, there is one post on how someone hid the litter box in a ikea low cabinet

really ingenious how they make use of existing structures

and more so when you see what they do to reduce tracking to almost non-existant!:bow:

DIY? kimi has enuff. Tho i'll realli like to hv a few posh-looking permanent furnitures for her.

    Here's her cardboard bungalow...

but but but, this blog has really interesting stuff for cats

only thing is all very expensive...

hi applefreak, i was hopping they sell things like tat in spore too :P

  8. this thread caught my attention immediately. i diy-ed reno, so these are my own mistakes in selection :P

    1) Ditto mentioned above on chrome toilet fittings n accessories. tarnish within the year.

    2) Stainless steel pipes are big effort to keep shiny. in the end i had them all painted over.

    3) White bathroom floor tiles gets dirty too quick. note tat we dun wear slippers at home.

    4) Designer switches n sockets are waste of money. i dun remember even taking a second look at them after moving in. its just a fantasy-item during reno and reno-shopping. (note: very expensive mistale given the number of switches n sockets installed).

    5) 1x1metres glass coffee table is great to admire, but a pain to clean everyday if u hv a pet (like mine) who luv to go sit/sleep on it cos its cool surface.

    6) White/pale seat covers are challenging with pets ard. paws marks!

Misc : Despite all the concerns i read on tis forum abt white glossy laminates in the kitchen, none of the probems accur in our white-glossy-laminated kitchen. so go ahead, do it :)

  9. LOL... we were worried too when we got tis unit during the walk-in selection. but we were quite 'desperate' cos time is extremely tight in arranging for wedding and ourseas working stint immediately after weddg. so we shut our eyes, cross our fingers, blindly hope n pray tat its not a murder-house!

heard from the neighbours later e histories of the previous owners. turns out tat its simply practical reasons like those u'd listed above= financial problems n marital problems.

it may help if u chat with ur future-neighbours, they will be able to tell u something u wan to know ;)

juz wanna add on tat for those who r particular about fengshui, u will hv to re-assess if u wan a house with tis kind of history then.
