How is your networking getting on?Didn't/can't do much now. Gonna wait till after I move in, or after reno is more or less completed.

Hi bleucheeze,
Yup, that was my thinking. To stick laminate over the tiles.
Easier to show what I mean by picture. See below of what I am thinking of. Does it make sense? Do you see any issues with doing this?
I saved this pic before too! Actually I wanted to do concrete base only for sink support, but contractor says cannot cos "not nice". zzZzzz. Maybe you can check with him if can stick laminate over? Update me on this hor! Though it's too late for me to change anything now, but it's good to know

your black grouting looks really black. mine looks grey & many of it has changed color after acid wash. not sure if it's "normal". it's one of those things where you feel that it doesn't seem right but yet the thought of having to change all of it makes you feel doubly sian.
Ya, i thought it should lighten a bit after acid wash but apparently it doesn't! I told A that it looks really dirty and he replied "that's why I don't like to use black". He didn't warn me about this lor.
Never ask, never know...
I asked to level 2 uneven floor tiles. Will drop by this evening to check the results. Fingers crossed.

I see, you are mounting it on wood. I'm creating a concrete sink support for the sink area and about 9 inches more from the sink area for some heavy chopping action. I am then joining the concrete sink support with cabinet so a seamlessly surround it with wood so it looks like entire area is made of wood. Hopefully it turns out well.
I am also designing my own kitchen cabinet but am gonna work with the carpentar to define the more detail specs based on what is possible.
Mind if I tap on your experience with designing your carpentry, S1 is pretty Shallow correct? so you probably need a maximum of maybe 2 S1 to keep your cultery? Do you think there is a need for more? Is S4 really that deep that it cater for all your storage items?
If you were to redesign again, what would you differently this time?
Appreciate if you have words of advice or tips you can give me before I start on my cabinet construction.
Thanx!
Just curious, how do you "seamlessly surround it with wood? Concrete support have to lay tiles on its exterior right? Then you stick laminate over?

Haha I'm guessing the CB2 one has a gorgeous price too?
It's $299 but is bigger than Ikea. And comes in gorgeous orange that matches my theme colour!
-
Hmm, mine isn't giving any problems at all. I find it quite smooth. But then again, maybe what you define as smooth is different from mine? but it's serving me well, so if you like it, I say go with it!
Thanks for the info. I am considering either this one or CB2 one which is bigger and in gorgeous orange colour!

Hey bleucheeze The IKEA drawer unit fits nicely, with just enough space (not very visible gap) for it to be pulled in and out if we needed to move the entire unit out from under the table. The drawer unit is 69cm tall, and our tabletop is 70cm tall.
Our tabletop is 2 metres long. Our ID got the carpenter to do it up for us because we couldn't find one of that length out in the market (unless we wanted to get a dining table to use as a study table. didn't do that because dining tables are really wide ).
Thanks for the info!
nice idea. seen the drawers at ikea too. many pple were looking at it actually. tempting!
I tried out this drawer at ikea before, but the drawer is a bit hard to pull in and out, as in not smooth enough. I wonder if it's the display set's problem? Summersann, is yours ok?

I tried to do that, but she said not possible to estimate well, as there are doors and entrance on both sides and windows. She gave an estimate but different from Alan's.
Anyway, bought it already, so no choice I guess. Will try to use it other rooms or extend to wall.
Then ok la, just go with Alan's estimation should not be too far. If not enough, you him and ask him to sponsor the rest lor
-
Z3phy,
You didn't use Alan correct? Who did you use?
Z3phy is using an ID if i remember correctly...

They can be considered good but not good actually. So you should ask it to be fixed. Got any pictures of the type of tiles that were done well for the type of tiles. Show him the picture and tell him that is how you want it, see how it is done, very well done, look at the work here , pretty bad, need to fix at least as close as possible as the picture lar. Tell that and see if it works? ;p
Why don't you ask the tiling uncle? I am sure they can tell you how?
If you use a scraper, wouldn't it scratch or chip the tiles?
I really dunno... Tiling has completed quite a while ago, I don't see the tiling uncle anymore. I have asked contractor to re-do one of the floor tile cos the unevenness is not acceptable to me. As for the rest, maybe I will just live with it... sigh.
ok. then i guess u got it slightly better.
i had to top up for 60 x 30cm tiles, for installing those tiles (they call it upgrade) and pay extra for installing mosaic tiles. mosaic tiles provided by me!
workmanshop for mosaic tiles cost me nearly 1k. and their workmanship sucks.
Huh, first time I heard that using 60x30 must top up. I thought 60x30 is quite common. Did you top up cos the particular tile you chose cost more psf, or it's solely for the workmanship?

Hey, does the table top sit on the ikea drawer unit nicely? Or is there actually a space to pull it out? May I know the length of your table top? Thanks very much!
-
wah.. wat sh*t is that. did he charge you extra for installing tofu tiles?
I don't think he got charge extra.
-
Yes choosing granite sink purely for looks
For the craftbricks, we did some rough calculations of the walls we will be covering; also researched on the completed brick walls of other forumers (I tried to count the number of bricks they used!). Finally we double-checked with Alan. We rounded up the figure as it would be safer to have extras!
You can also give your wall dimensions to the JB craftbrick contact, she can advise you on the amount needed.

So are you going to ask them to fixed or cleaned up??
Who is the Tiler? Is it a uncle with a Moustache?
My tiler uncle doesn't have moustache... And this is after acid wash, I thought acid wash may lighten grout line a bit. Any idea how do they clean up? I am thinking of using scraper to scrap it out myself
bleucheese...
choice of curtains not bad.
feel bad for ur tofu tiles.. same feeling as my mosaic lo.
workmanship so bad, and we cant do anything abt it.
have u spoken to your ID?
I spoke to my contractor already, he says seldom got home owners use such tofu tiles and as they are considered small tiles, this kind of workmanship is considered good already.
-
The grouting looks pretty bad, hmm is your tiles not align or is my eyes?
Not sure if it's not aligned here but there are other spots where my tofu tiles are not aligned. This is not the workmanship standard I was expecting... Sigh. And there are other spots near the floor where the black grouting looks exceptionally dirt.

Met the curtain uncle on Saturday. Here are the fabrics we chose:
Dimmer curtain for living hall.
Blackout curtain for MBR.
Actually is dimmer or blackout more suitable for living hall? I am only doing one layer, so no day curtain. I kinda prefer the pattern of the MBR blackout curtain than the dimmer fabric I chose for living hall.
Zebra blinds for study room.
Also chose a blackout blind for WIW but forgot to take pix.

omg. really quite disgusting leh. i wonder if my chairs are like that too... =((
i havent opened up to see yet.
did u pay a lot for the zakka box?
I paid close to S$20 for it. I have a phobia for mould so I'd rather throw than to clean it. Now I'm praying hard my other loots (eg my rubbish bins and plastic side tables) won't have mould growing on them. I am now storing them in my new place storeroom in their original boxes.

the prices in singapore is ridiculously high. it is at least 5-6 times more expensive. i just went to Tangs and saw the same skillet i am eyeing USD$19(amazon) vs SGD159 (Tangs having sale now 20% off and 10% tangs card rebate) so it will still cost more than $110 in sg.
Wow, tangs selling it for $159?! Hmmm... maybe it makes sense to get it from Amazon.
-
Looking good! So your shoe cabinet is the one using nyatoh wood. How come the horizontal slates seem to be of a different colour tone from the cabinet body? Were they oiled/lacquered?
-
Hi,
anyone keen to buy cookware from amazon?
eyeing this skillet, amazing reviews. looking to group buy and save on shipping.
Cast iron is SUPER HEAVY! You sure u wanna ship them in? Lodge is available in Singapore actually... I'm eyeing a cast iron skillet too, but will buy after I move in.
-
I don't know whether is it normal for black grouting to look so dirty? And this is after acid wash. Any idea how to remove part of the grouting, especially those on the marble skirting?
-
Received my TB loots today. My zakka box has mould growing all over! Was so disgusted that I threw it away. I suspect it could be due to prolonged storage... could be seller has been storing it for quite a while. Or it could be due to prolonged storage at amcon's warehouse in GZ and Sg, cos i arranged for delivery only one week after it reaches Sg.

What is your wardrobe laminate going to look like? Aluminum can't match that well?
Cos my door would be that metal painted black, so I'd prefer runner to be black. It's a bit hard to describe, but it has different shades of brown, kinda resemble rust. Here's a pic of it (the right one).
-
Even the ikea sliding door runner comes in aluminum only
Thanks for the info. So sad
