  1. Hi Bleucheeze,

Can I check with you on the laminates as you did quite a bit of researching into it from what I read.

So to the question, Is Lamitak better or EDL? or the same?

Were you able to find out which laminate would be better and can last longer and not damaged easily? Also is there a difference between 12,, and 10 mm and the cost? which is cheaper and which is expensive?

Appreciate if you can provide any information that can help!

    Thank you! Much appreciated.

Perhaps u can ask Alan about this. I didn't really research on which is more long lasting and cheaper. If you are going for laminates with design, you'd realize different brands offer different designs, so it all boils down to which design you prefer, not the other way round (brand-> design), at least for me. I chose Lamitak and Lam Chuan.

As for thickness, I read in this forum that it matters when one is choosing glossy laminate, as laminate may appear wavy when viewed from the side if it's not thick enough. For glossy ones, some people say best to use at least 8mm or 10mm, but I think the quality of laminate matters too. I did asked Lamitak about wavy-ness and they say it's due to the plywood carpenter uses, as plywood may not be 100% even. Hope that helps :)

  2. Yeah u r not alone. We r in the same boat haha... Ur floor is herf or wooden laminate? Glad that u resolve the issue. Sometime I do wondering are the contractor first time working? If very experience then they can see whats the problem & won't need us the owner to tell them what's the problem ma... Right?

Tell me about it. Sometimes I wonder too... When a decision may affect things like storage space, never highlight to owner. :jawdrop:

  3. Hi beejeebee & bleucheeze> ya using wifi.. i'm on fibre so far so gd - smooth playback with very little buffering/lag unless the video source lousy quality. my friend not on fibre but oso quite ok. i watch mostly from the 'video-on-demand' title listings available.. from serial drama to movies to variety.. from asian to western.. or u can do a search for what u wanna watch but not in the title listings.. can oso watch real-time programmes streaming from overseas channels (but mostly PRC channels though) :)

I see. Thanks for sharing! VOD ones must pay?

  4. Check out this website http://www.minix.com.hk/

Neo G4 is wat I got from recent IT Show at $188 c/w the registered App that allows access to the database of programmes (real-time updating). Think the server should be hosted in PRC ba! If interested, can pm u the local shop @ Sim Lim that I got it from. Went ard Sim Lim to chk, there are many other similar Android boxes but all boxy boxy kind.. this the only dongle kind I saw.. So far, I've watched a few movies & latest HK series (even current ones in HK) on it liao..:)

This dongle streams drama and movies from online? Is it hard to find the content? Does it lag during streaming?

  5. I intent to buy a Bosch GSB RE 10 Impact drill for IKEA Besta set. Is the impact drill good enough for concrete wall or I need hammer drill? I have checked the specs, it can drill hole 10mm on wall. Not sure it is good enough for the wall plugs/anchors for Besta set. Anyone use the Drill before. I saw Home-Fix selling for $99 with complete accessories.

Erm, so have to get a drill separately if I want to fix Besta on the wall? Cos I intend to get a besta shelf.

  6. Hi bleucheeze, here is a pic of my E27 track lights from TB. Very limited designs there cause everybody is selling LED.

    8640968292_772d93dce0.jpg

I am using the lights to illuminate the whole place and not for accent lighting. Anyway the holders happen to be short and the light bulbs protrude out from them. Do share a photo of your lights when you receive them.

Yes, I tried searching on TB and it's very limited.

If you don't want it to protrude, perhaps can use a lower wattage (so shorter) bulb?

  7. bleucheeze, what was the metal thingy for? I am so kuku nbr see this before... :dunno:

That metal piece is used for industrial and commercial purpose lah. I wanna adapt it for my wardrobe door. Meeting my contractor and carpenter on Sat to discuss about it, hope is do-able!

  8. Now that we've nothing much to do while waiting for carpentry, it's time to look at blinds and curtain.

We like the clean look of white timber blind with contrasting black tape, something like this:

    JSblindwblacktape_zpscdef0c54.jpg

But is it weird to do blinds for full height window with sliding door? This is how our living hall looks like. Door in the middle opens to the balcony.

    P2270101_S_zps416ab956.jpg

As the window is pretty wide, I can imagine blind cleaning will be a headache.

Also, can such timber blind block out some light for day time tv viewing?

Another option is to do curtains in a neutral shade like off white, since our living hall is already accented with bright colours. :dunno:

  9. Hi bleucheeze

Very curious how your E27 track light look like? What's the price of it?

Lighting.com quoted me around 47 per led track light fixture.

    Thanks! :)

Mine is not LED but uses normal e27 light bulb, so the light holder looks different. Its more for general lighting... If you want to use it as a spotlight, then this is not suitable. I didn't take any photo at the shop, so no pix to share.

  10. Wow, you managed to track down E27 track light holders in Changi! I got mine from TB but they are not so good looking. Care to share the company and price you paid for the lights?

How does your TB one looks like? Apparently, design of the holder determines its usage, for eg light will be more dispersed as opposed to a concentrated beam.

    It's Catalina Lighting, Blk 3012 #04-2034 Bedok Industrial Park E. tel 64496030.

  11. oh. i used to keep them in a pup pen. and yes. one of the bunnies jumped out. they can if they really want to.

now i keep them (also temp) in some DIY wire cage.. those kind u get from Daiso at $2 each. and piece them together with cable ties.

anyway, we just went to art fren this afternoon.. to look for better DIY ideas and materials.

things there were like OMG ex.

    a piece of plank cost like $19.90. for 90cm x 90cm.

so.. if we were to make a cage with Art fren materials, we might as well just buy the $400 cage from Pet Safari.

we dropped the art fren idea and head to geylang.

found this shop that sells wire mesh in different sizes.

we spent abt 1hr there, fighting over what to buy and how the structure should be like.

in the end, bought everything from there. wooden planks, wiremesh. total $118.

the uncle cut the wood into the size that we wanted too.

    how nice rite.

and he also gave us an extra plank.. told us to have it for free... coz animals will make the wood dirty very fast.

    so happy.

dunno how the rabbit "condo" will turn out. lol. =)

Interested to see the end result of your rabbit condo :P Btw, what is this geylang shop? Can share address?

  12. My friend got me the ten piece pack, so the sizes come fixed. I find it quite useful because it comes in different sizes, as pictured. Good for storing almost anything, but definitely use them to only store dry foods (because liquids can get under the silicon suction cap and kinda get stuck in there unless you remove the silicon for washing). Where are you planning to get them from? The ones I saw in Singapore have been marked up quite a bit.

Most probably buying them here. Crate & Barrel stocks these but not the full range. I heard Howard's storage world sells too but I have yet to check them out. Problem is the products' description is very much based on US size, eg 4 qt is supposed to be good for 5 lb flour but our flour here is usually in 1kg pack. I guess the container on the left of the spaghetti one is the 4 qt?

  13. Yesterday was venture into industrial estate day! And guess what I saw?

I am expecting my tb orders from them this Sat. Hope everything will be fine. fingers crossed.

Went to look for this metal thingy for our wardrobe door. Called a few suppliers and only two are kind enough to entertain me. But they were all like "why u wanna use this metal, may scratch your hand one". True enough, when I mishandled the sample piece accidentally in the car, it caused two tiny surface cuts on my fingers. Zzzz. But I am still keen to use it :P

We were lucky the first supplier we visited were very nice people, so we decided to ask our carpenter to order from them. Didn't bother to compare price with a second supplier which I planned to visit yesterday but didn't do so.

After this, headed to Second Charm to view our TV console, such a beauty! It was quite dark so didn't take any pix. Shall reveal more after they are delivered.

Our last stop was in Changi industrial area. Ordered our E27 track lights from Catalina. The boss is very knowledgeable and shared quite a lot with us. :yeah:

Learned a lot during renovation and am still learning. The best part is, it has brought me to many interesting places I may otherwise not visit! Here's a parting shot I took at one of the industrial parks.

  14. What did u use to ship your Kohler? Vpost or Amazon shipped directly to you?

And finally see your tofu tiled island. And your peranakan flooring! Not bad; can't wait to see your orange laminated cabinets!

I ordered the Kohler from Amazon. It cost less than S$100 per set! :sport-smiley-004:

I can't wait to see my carpentry too, but contractor says there will be a delay. And we are supposed to move in end of the month. Seems like mission impossible. zzzz.

  15. Are you using ID or contractor? If possible, go down as often as you can; nothing beats checking workmanship and possible mistakes yourself.

If you are concerned about painting, you may want to head down on the first day of painting and check the paint cans there. It's especially important to go down if you are choosing different paint colours, cos you can then brief the painters what colours go where. Hope that helps.
