  1. Reno is just the beginning... Keep it up.. I read your blog twice and still find it refreshing.

Now, I am debating to paint the ikea step stool or spray paint it! That's after reading your paint jobs!

Thanks! painting needs a lot of patience but you have better control over the result. Spray paint is fast but sometimes you get bubbles. The stool which I hand painted is looking so good now after numerous people had sat on it and 'abused' it.. Friends thought I lugged it back from Bali or got it custom made. The wood looks like its from a mature tree but it's just the paint.. :)

  2. I have been wanting to decorate my white fridge for the longest time but was simply too lazy. it's not that my fridge is ugly, but I find it a bit too stark next to my black carpentry. But since it's FOC (from the sellers), I really can't complain.

Anyway, I finally moved my lazy bones today and dressed it up.

This is how the fridge looks before makeover

A white fridge is like a plain canvas; there are so many ways of dressing it up. I'm trying to kill two birds with one stone here. Besides dressing up the fridge, I'm also creating a huge

'notice board' for myself. hopefully I wont forget what I'm supposed to buy or do.

  3. Hi June, I think I am suffering from post-renovation withdrawal syndrome. I miss the renovation journey and of course only the good bit. The part when you start off with an empty place and eventually birthing a completed and warm home :) other than that, we have become home bodies, always staying in to enjoy the comforts of our place. How about you?

I know exactly what you mean! I missed reno too after it ended but i kept myself busy with the furnishing. Thats a much cheaper way of changing the way the place looks.

By the way, I like how you hang your plants outside the door. Makes the place looks very inviting. ive been toying with the idea of having lots of indoor greenery eg. Wall planters, hanging planters and hydroponics for herbs in the kitchen etc. It's a tough project given that I'm not getting professional help and I'm slowly building it bit by bit. Hopefully I will make some progress by year end :)

  4. June : Really creative and nice looking rack

Did you lacquer or paint the wood ? I am afraid the moist in the bathroom may damage the wood stand

Makanlogy : Hope the house rectifications are all done and its good to stay at home, this show you have a cosy home ^^

(*Most important no need to spend money outside and squeeze with ppl)

Hi Songz, I didn't lacquer the wood bcos I don't expect to use it for a very long time. If the wood gets spoilt or when I get sick of it, I will replace it. That's the fun of DIY :)

  5. june so creative.. can take a walk in my house.. and think of what to put? hahahaha~~ :P

OK! i will let you know my design fees! hahaha.

By the way, I heard about your kitchen hood and the very ya-ya seller. Hope it has been resolved?

  6. I didn't think I would be posting any DIY projects in this blog now that work & housework take up most of my time, But recently, I completed a DIY project in RECORD TIME and I just have to write about it. It took me less than a minute to assemble some simple parts and about an hour to mount it on the wall. It would have taken a shorter time to mount if I had not been distracted by smses and the TV.

The reason why I did this DIY project was because I needed a rack for toiletries near the basin in my MBR. I had a big problem searching for toiletries racks during Reno as most of the racks I saw were made of stainless steel and the designs were pretty standard. As I dislike stainless steel racks, I decided to leave some of my toiletries on the basin itself. But I soon discovered that there's always brown yucky dirt at the bottom of the bottles due to the water from the washing. So I had no choice but to start looking for toiletries rack again.

I bought these plastic toiletries containers from a neighborhood shop but they kept sliding down my tiles.

    And they look so boring!

In order not to waste these containers, I sifted through the odds and ends in my store room and found

two items that gave me an idea! Within a minute, I came up with this:

  7. Hi there... I'm still getting PM queries on where I got my dining table customised, even though I had mentioned the suppliers in my blog. So I'm repeating the details here again: The table top is done by Wah King furniture and the legs are from Comfort Furniture. You can easily get the phone numbers and addresses by googling them. Good luck!

  8. May I check where you got these planter baskets from? And how are they fixed on the ledge? :D

Hi, these are small baskets for knick knacks which I bought from a neighborhood shop that also sells pails and brooms etc. I bought them bcos the size is just right for my narrow window ledge. I fixed them on the ledge using 3M heavy duty tape. If I want to move the pots somewhere else, I can easily remove the baskets.

  9. Looks like no more scandi theme, and the Kitchen's industrial theme looks half-past-six. But then modern look, and dunno what theme look....

Maybe once the lightings are installed, furniture are delivered, and cleaning is completed, the overall look and feel would be clearer.

Getting tired despite the CNY break. Over the past 8 weeks or so, have to check the contractors' and ID's works, make many decisions including decisions on what electrical appliances, lightings and furniture to buy so that they fit ascetically and are also practical, and balance all that with the budget. I don't have a spouse to help share the load too. Excitement is long dead, just want to quickly finish this and get over with it. This is getting to be a drag.

Hi, I totally understand how you feel bcos I also did Reno on my own. There were so many decisions to be made, both big and small. ID and frens can only give suggestions but the ultimate decision lies with you. Even though my ID was superb and helped me so much, I still felt stressed at times. Shopping for the house is a big problem as I don't have a car and have no energy to lug heavy things home. I only started to enjoy my place when the furnishing was largely done. That day will come soon for you too :)

  10. Now that I've settled in the new place for about 7 months, Im finally enjoying the place by cooking and hosting makan sessions. I really enjoy having an open concept kitchen that allows me to move between the kitchen and the dining area easily without banging into any wall. My dining area is huge by today's standard as it used to be the old living room (Yes, my dining area should actually be called a dining room, not an area). It can easily accommodate 22 people if I were to place two foldable tables on each side of my long dining table and there is still ample walking space around. This is one of the key reasons why I bought this flat.

Here's a rather lousy pix of the dining table plus one small table, which can accommodate 15 people for a steamboat meal.

And here's another lousy shot of my family lunch during CNY. (I have no idea why I took a picture with the sun shining in my direction)
    12336420924_311fc3f17e.jpg
In the foreground is the Ikea kitchen cabinet with extendable top. Not only do the colours match my kitchen carpentry, it is useful during parties when i need the space for drinks and food. On a normal day, its placed against the wall in my kitchen and provides extra counter space. The top opens up to a length of about 1.5m I think.

  11. Just a small update on my place. My dream has always been to build a home that is full of greenery and Im taking small steps towards that. So far, the plants seem to be doing well with minimal care. And the green looks really good against the colour tones in my place - black, white and wood.

Love the leftover wall laminate under the pot...wish I had more of this...

My current favourite - mint plant!

  12. Sorry didn't reply to u earlier bcos I had a family emergency and have been busy running around. The table was done by Wah King furniture. But I don't have the card with me now(I didn't save his number in my phone). You can easily google the contact number as they are quite popular. The guy's name is kenneth Du. Cast iron legs are from Comfort furniture.

  13. M. Foo is very accommodating, flexible and down to earth but like all ID and contractors, dont expect instant answers/responses.

He will reply but will take time. I would say his quote is pretty similar to most, some may be cheaper and he allow you to source for own source after seeing his offer.

Sometimes he is not fast in responding to queries because he is focused on current clients' reno, which means that when you engage him, you are assured of his full attention too (priority goes to clients rather than prospective clients). This is one of the things that set him apart from other IDs. Once my reno started, he was very hands on and replied to my endless questions quite promptly most of the time. Many other IDs are the opposite. They are very responsive when they are trying to get your business but once you sign on the contract, they are hard to contact.

  14. You have heard of impulse purchase, but have u heard of impulse painting?

Well, that happened to me. :) Had a really bad bad day at work recently and at the end of the day, I had a sudden urge to have one wall in my study room painted in a dark shade. I checked with my ID on the colour and he suggested grey. I'm not a fan of grey and resisted grey throughout my reno, but I decided to go along with his suggestion (that's why I said it's an impulsive decision). Got a painter in within days even though I had no idea which wall in the room to paint. I only decided on it just minutes before the painter arrived! thank goodness the end result was good.

Now my frens joked that if i were to paint one wall each time i have a bad day at work, my house will turn all grey very soon :)...

  15. Hi June, loved the reno done! Would you mind pm-ing me your ID contacts? Am getting my 5 room in about 10 days time and still no where near talking to any contractor or ID (except emailed one lady ID today, which also come recommended by some folks here). Haha... I must be one of the most lazy person but well, I'm not in a hurry to move so reno can take its time .

    Thanks!

Hi, good that you have the luxury of time..can slowly look for the right person to do your reno. My ID is Foo from Custombox. you can check out his Facebook page here https://www.facebook.com/custom.box.sg

  16. Like your sofa and how the rack complements it. And that is a nice spread for lunch!
