  2. Hi,

The toddler toilet seat looks interesting. Where did you buy it?

Gonna be the end of my update soon as renovation is done and pending for handover.

However I had a few delivery items which make my house more complete, so might as well share it.

"Fabricate" a toilet seat for my baby, prepare her for toilet training.

  3. Hi, you can paste 3M safety film on the glass. So even if the glass shatters, the 3M film will hold it in place. The film is "invisible". I have them on my balcony glass doors.

Recently we are faced with lots of difficulty deciding what to do with our display cabinet as my MIL keep mentioning that glass is really dangerous and she hope that we are not doing much glass related stuff in our house..

But our display cabinet as the partition between our living room and study area is of entire glass panel for the top half of the cabinet..

Is it really that dangerous..questions keep popping in our mind..will it suddenly shatter and hurt people?? if there are kids..will they throw something accidentally and smash the glass?? Is tampered glass really safer?? Gosh..all these are torturing us for weeks...

Does anyone of you have such concerns with glass display cabinet??

Anyway to ease our mind and my MIL, we decided to change the display cabinet into this, which is without any glass panel. Hope it will look good..what do you all think??

  4. Oh, my contractor said that the aircon pipe has to be drained into the drainage hole. Otherwise, years of direct draining onto the floor may cause the downstairs unit to have mould on the ceiling as the water is cold. This is an important note for EM owners who have upstairs and downstairs toilets.

Woah your bathroom flooring is really cool! We don't dare to really scrub or use strong cleaning agent on these tiles... Their colours will fade with the wash. One way or another, the colours will fade with time, giving it an aged look.

Also our Aircon pipe where water comes out from is located directly above one of these tiles. After 1 year of using our Aircon, that particular tile has turned yellowish :(

  5. Actually we all worked as a team. Each of us has a different skillset and we contribute valuable inputs to the reno project. I contributed the "vision". Jay contributed design and color scheme. Mr Yeak provided the workmanship.

Jay didn't really manage Mr Yeak. They were more like team mates who worked together. Both of them took longer than what I would like. However, generally, their works are good.

I must say it is a SMARTER move to engage and ID to manage this contractor.

We went straight for this contractor. Hai.. We need to judge his workmanship and after sale service to be fair.

Anyone who engaged him.. care to share some experience? If anyone engaged or just engaged feel free to PM me, we can share our experience.

  6. So far, I really like my Ikea kitchen. It is very functional. And white makes the space looks bigger.

I have seen pictures of the new Ikea kitchen online - they looks really modern and sleek.

Thank you, Harriette! Most kind of you.

I really like your integrated sink. Not having to worry about the silicon wearing out sounds really good to me.

I like white, and have been planning on getting a white sink and an all-white kitchen. Like yours, which looks very nice! (But on a much smaller scale, for my new house is small.) But I think I shall now have to rethink the colour scheme due to the stain issue.
I hope the new kitchen line arrives soon. I am looking forward to it! I heard that the US stores would be getting it in February. Australia release is scheduled for next year too, I think.
The oily floor thing worries me a little. Maybe I should look for alternatives.
    Thanks again.

  7. I like the fabric chair and elephant. Do you have to assemble them yourself?

A few other TB purchases that I could finally unearth from their boxes cos the house is pretty much done:

Tolix dining chairs. The finish is lovely. The white one is quite wobbly but nothing a rubber floor protector on the bottom can't fix.

A fabric chair that the wife loves. Good stable construction. Wood finish could be finer but its decent.

Meet elephunt! Our cheap sculpture. lol And we feel it softens the feel of the house alot.

  8. Hi,

Your home looks great! Pls pm me your contractor's contact :) By the way, how's the IKEA kitchen so far? I heard mixed comments about ikea kitchen ... ... just wondering if I should go ahead with the purchase ...

    Cheers,

    asterus

    Hi,

so far, Ikea kitchen has been really good. Very very well-designed and functional.

    What I like:

    1. the soft closing of all the doors and drawers are of very good quality

    2. the child-proof latch which you can install for all the drawers and doors.

    3. the drawers are really strong. I have put 20Kg of rice in 1 drawer, 6 big tins of milk powder in another and they are all holding well.

    4. the ikea dustbins which you can put inside the drawer - this gives you a proper place for garbage

    5. as I opted to have all drawers for the lower cabinets, I can see everything at 1 glance and it is really easy to retrieve items from the drawers.

  9. Very good idea. Could also consider adding sliding door to hide the "mess".

The "fish tank" look. Looks like an enclosed space in the carpentry.

The frame amplify the "fish tank" feel. So instead of solid top of granite, stone etc, we replace with carpentry.

And the top layered with tempered glass act as protected against the carpentry.

Additional lighting are added, as ceiling lights are not bright enough due to design.

    20140902_183126.jpg

Another design idea from Mr. Foo.

The slide out is good for using rice cooker/electric kettle etc where the steam can emit directly and not onto the carpentry.

Further to that, can act as an "island" for food preparation with things within reach. :good:

  10. The walk-in is a good idea. Where is it created?

Went to take a peek! Partition Boards for my walk and my girls' walk in up!! Simply Excited!!

Kind of a cost saving measure since a full on walk in would set me back by alot. Having a partition board and the internal will be by Ikea Algot will kind of half the cost :D

It is still bare and not painted yet but I can't when it is painted and fitted with the railings!

  11. Hi JohnB,

these are working very well. I really like the integrated sink as there is no joint with the solid surface and hence no bacteria will be trap there. For typical sinks, silicon will be applied along the joints to prevent water seepage. However, the silicon may be worn out in time, Dirt gets trapped there easily too. Unfortunately, Ikea only carries white sinks for such integrated types. There are some slight yellow stains on mine already. If you are buying such sink from other sources, you can consider other colours for the sink. I did asked Ikea's supplier to quote me for a sink made of the same solid surface that I chose. However, it was too expensive.

Actifry is really useful. It produced really yummy and crispy fried drumsticks. I only had to marinate the drumsticks with salt and pepper for 5min, place them into the Actifry and the machine will fry on its own for 25min. There isn't much exhaust. However, the floor do get slightly oily. It is good to do a quick mop after frying.

How nice! Are these still working well for you, Harriette? I would be grateful if you could share your thoughts on the Actifry, and the sink.

    Thank you.

  12. Pls give me Ah Mong's contact. Thanks.

I am happy on how the lights have been installed and looked after installation. I have to give credits to my electrician, Ah Mong, who did a great job in installing them and his price is really reasonable!

I highly recommend him to anyone if you are interested in getting his contact! :good:
