  1. Recently, I have to add on sliding windows and grills for service + grills for MBR toilet window. I didn't do the above when I was doing my renovation as I thought that it was unnecessary since the rain didn't get in but I was proven wrong in this monsoon season.

I didn't get my original contractor as the quote he provided was significantly higher than usual.

I went on to engage Simon Neo from AS PALACE DESIGN (Mobile: 97482867). He does my office renovation job for us. It was an eye opener working with Simon as his quote itemised everything!

Never have I seen a contractor being so detailed! I was pleased with the work done. Cost me $725 for the above job. This is just for reference since each of us have different dimension and requirement. The company which did the window and grills is WAN SERN METAL INDUSTRIES PTE LTD at Tuas.

  2. For those who is looking for a qualified painter who has previously taken on projects from Kingsman to paint boutique like PRADA, bodyshop.

Mr CHUA, freelance painter, TEO CHEW senior in his 60-70s providing reliable paint job.

    Mobile: 91941686.

You may mention refer by Ah Ji.

Mr CHUA helped us to paint our 4 room BTO and office.

It was hard work by our painters as we painted our skirting white. Originally was wood provided by HDB but my unit skirting was done badly in terms of colour and attachment.

The painting job was done by a very experienced painter who charges us for the paint only.

Outside quote is about $1600-$1700 inclusive of skirting.

  3. Hi just to share. I heard from my two sister-in-laws saying praises of this foam sponge in DASIO which is totally amazing and they're so confident that it will solve my scrum issue on my shower screen.

It's melamine sponge $2 white in colour, comes in different sizes.

Bought and tested. Was blown away!

$2 and 15 mins my stubborn scrum is gone with the rub using water and the sponge!

I wash it to clean my basin and light switches too.

    Great product!

  4. Thank you for your detailed sharing.

I'll use those stronger cleaner to scrub off the stubborn stains.

    Hi ongal,

For shower screen glass panel, I find that it really helps if after every shower, you use a squeegee to wipe down the water droplets. Ley chey but after a while it becomes a habit.

If you want to remove very tough stains, then usually what I do is to use super strong cleaning sprays. I'll leave them on for about 10 minutes before scrubbing the screen.

Some I've used before include those limescale remover, mould and mildew remover, and stain & mould remover.

The stains at the bottom usually require a second round of cleaning.

  5. I totally understand what you went through!

You can send your jade for certifying at a testing lab called Nanyang (?)... Google pls.

Hi, if anyone come across a shop that sells genuine jade at reasonable price, please share.

My recent experience was quite exhausting. I went from Bencoolen to chinatown but either all are too expensive or happens to be fake.

2 weeks ago, I bought a piece of jade in Chinatown but was told by a jewellery shop in Toa Payoh that its not actually real jade. For some shops in Chinatown the pricing also has no limits. One shop open price at $6800 and then gave a big discount to $4890. I don't even want to bargain. I was told by my Aunt that there were many fakes, Bs and Cs there. Probably too late when she told me.

I tried to ask for smaller piece and choose to ask the price a pendent. The offer price was $3800. I think they are doing more on tourist business.

Back in Fu Lu Shou, on 2nd level, one shop quote a bangle $10 000. So I went to the next shop beside, the chinese sales attendent quote a bangle also $10 000 and a display piece $3800. She ask me to bargain, seems like the usual trick? How to bargain anyway when the prices are so high.

Then I hop across to another building. This lady has many jade pendent pieces on display. I pick a small pieces pendent. Her starting price is $1200. She said if I want, she can give me at $800. Wow, a discount of $400. I was thinking such a small piece also demands such a price, no point asking for bigger pieces.

I read someone recommended Li Hong and so I took a trip there. Mind you, if you just have a few hundred dollars in your pocket, don't go there. A tiny weenie piece of pendent finger nail size should empty your pocket.

Money spent is fine but the fear of getting the fakes is like pouring your money into the wash basin. The jewellery shop told me there are many stained color and acid washed type. Bad for skin and no value. Other crystals misrepresent as jades.

Searching for one jade is quite tiring. Why? When I finally get to one with a price I want, I start to question if it is real jade.

If you have some experience, please share.

  9. I have a few members asking me for the quote of my renovation.

I don't share as there are many amendments on the copy and I feel that you should have the contractor for an onsite quotation.

I have only asked for 2-3 quotes for my renovation so I'm not too sure what's the definition of expensive or cheap as my references are based on that few quotes.

My main consideration is the attitude and reliability of the contractor.

I have left the number of my contractor in my signature. You can contact Alan directly. I don't get anything in return for sharing the project he has done for us.

    Cheers.

  11. Hi,

I noted that you have built a cement structure for your sink, may I know what is the thickness of the iQuartz profile (the side of iQuartz) ?

I had wanted to build a cement structure for the sink area as I believe it is more durable but my contractor has been discouraging me saying that the iQuartz profile will look very thick and not nice.

    Thanks.

I don't have the thickness of iQuartz now but I've uploaded my kitchen top in the earlier post. If you can accept then go ahead and ask your contractor to build a cement structure for sink area.

  12. Engaged Pertapis movers to shift our belongings from two locations to our new house.

    Very satisfied with their services.

    Competitive pricing too.

We have about 20-25 boxes/bags and some big items.

We have spoken to another mover but find it too troublesome to fit into their standard box size. We prefer to pack till the last min so we can't decried the exact number of boxes so they can't quote us. We are glad that Pertapis is more flexible.
