  1. Are they brand new?

Hi no, not BN. I used them for about 6 months but in my new wardrobe I cannot use them anymore because they are wide and when i hang my million clothes on them, i lose precious space. as such, i have to resort to the white plastic IKEA ones instead. these wooden ones look really grand but now when i need wardrobe space, cannot use already.

it looks as good as new!

  2. Nice! I thought you had the brick wall painted green in the other room! Love the green wall.

heh. it was the unintended outcome but I like it too!

Hi, can share with me your plumber?

Love the look and setup of the Kitchen.

Colors of living room make it look bright and bigger.

Carpentry work seem to have good workmanship.

Overall I think its quite a good reno excluding the plumber of cause.

Hope you can find someone to fix up that tap

thanks. tap is now fixed...but the kraus sink still cannot find the bottle trap :(

  3. My uncle is also dealing with fengshui (but he's not chinese - go figure!), he has a shop in JB where he lives. Every few weeks he goes Thailand to get supplies. If he sees my MBR he sure hit the roof ten times. but i won't share the details here because he said sometimes it's not what you do that spoils the balance, but that other people know/talk about it that makes it bad.

  4. back in this thread to ask for help.

my plumber don't know how to fix my Kohler tap from US. he says the threaded ring metal neck has no room to turn and cannot tighten to the top. anyone with any plumber contact that can help me please?

    EDIT: My Kohler tap fixed!

Anyone has problem with bottle trap for Kraus sink? The size is bigger than usual so my other plumber say cannot use the regular one.

  5. Hi Mellenur,

Congrats for moving in. Your place looks really nice.

Yes, Mr Yeak told me that the carpenter is his brother. Mr Yeak and his brother own a carpentry workshop in Malaysia where they fabricate the carpentry works. Before I hired Mr Yeak, a past client of his told me that his carpentry works is good. I just wanted to verify that this is still true.

    Hi Harriette,

Yup! But his plumber is a whole other story!

  6. I'm beginning to get very annoyed by my contractor's plumber.

He's **** Ah Beng, takes no pride in his work (refer here) and when he's presented a problem, he never makes an effort to solve it but always want to the easy way out!

I bought this Kohler faucet from Amazon and now he's having problems fixing it. Anyone has recommendations on other plumbers who have installed this before? There's an oval neck (as opposed to a regular round neck) which is preventing it from being wound to the top, I'm sure there is another solution. Sigh.

He also has problems fixing my Ikea curtain rail.

  7. My pole system wardrobe in MBR from Closet Design. Product I think is good but the salesperson is terrible, she's doing admin from Mon-Thu and sales Fri-Sun. Design wise I don't think she came onsite to do, but she's the one who drew up the layout. Big mistake as you can see the top shelves are so close to the trunking that you can't keep much items. A lot of wasted space. The sliding doors will come in next week.

White pendant light is from Chan Huat.

I like the reflection of the craft wall through the study room glass. As if both sides also have craft wall!

  8. We moved in last Saturday! :dancingqueen:

We brought along 50 boxes plus other things. Left the kids at my mum's for the weekend while I unpacked. Also because the house wasn't 100% ready. In fact, on day of move, there were painters and carpenters still doing work on Saturday. I just unpacked 5 of 50 boxes as the kitchen cabinets weren't ready to keep all the other items yet. So please pardon my lack of updates. I will also share our learning from the practical side of our designs.

Some pics from 2 days before we moved in:

Shoe cabinet. We chose walnut as the internal laminate as we have learnt that white will turn yellow eventually and show stains (unless you put a liner) and I can't stand scruff marks or little bits or dust. We also designed two drawers to keep socks and umbrellas. We also asked for a little enclave to keep keys and wallets (also came in handy yesterday when I ordered pizza for dinner!), and another enclave at the bottom to keep daily shoes. Turns out to be a really good idea because the doors are not full length then so I can try on a shoe and if I don't like it, I can just change without needing to open/close cabinet again. Also asked for ventilation "sieves" to allow air to circulate. The big door next to the shoe cabinet is the store room door. We also have switches so as we enter the house, we can switch on the cove lights in the living room. Powerpoint there is for when guests want to charge their handphone so they don't forget to take it back on their way out.

    Kitchen:

Hood is up. Hob was pending the granite top installation then can fit it in. Love the look of the light against the teal subway tiles.

Granite top was installed yesterday. Initally I asked for Black Galaxy then decided on Imperial Black but somehow when the order came in, it was Black Galaxy. Never mind, got bigger problems to deal with so left this be.

  9. Hi mellenur, we have the same pink phone from TB but it got spoilt after a few months of use! We didn't damage it nor did we used the phone intensively. Also no idea how it got spoilt :( the quality is not that good, that we must admit...

Thanks Makanology for the heads up. Happy to know that it actually works! I was just planning to use it as a decorative piece.

Thnx for the TB links, nice stuffs & really helps pple like me who can't self TB.

Btw, how's the dining restoration gg? I hv 15pcs Qing or Ming furnitures my mum hv been begging me to bring along to our new 4roomer & need to prolly revarnish / update the pcs...wish I could let it all go for a scandi theme but she spend a lot of $$ some 10yrs bck for these good rosewood...no choice but to take all in... Scared to think of the cost since u were quoted $3.5k on just dining.

Pls update on the cats area too coz we hv 3 in the family :)

    No problem re TB :)

In the end I did not restore my dining table because the few restorers in this country charges very high so I sold my dining table. My bed however I have opted for a white coat of paint, will update this weekend when it comes back from the factory.

    Hi Mellenur,

I am about to start my carpentry works. How do you find the quality of Mr Yeak's carpentry works?

Harriette, I don't know if he told you this but the carpenter is his brother. I find the quality is good, but all my internals are Blum so not much can go wrong there. But overall, I'm happy with the works.

  10. my black galaxy quote from contractor is SGD110 per foot run.

re scratching, yes you won't scratch with scissors but there are other culprits: rice cooker, air fryer, kettle --> all cannot drag across the surface. my prev maid scratched mine by dragging the tupperware rice container. ouch :angry2:

of course logically the house owners won't do that.. :thumbs up: and if you invite me over, i also won't. I promise!

Granite costs more than quartz right? I guess not. Though I've come across many rave reviews of Black Galaxy. By the way, I did a scratch test on iQuartz's grey and black samples last night. Hehe. Check this out. It's the least obvious on the non-reflective grey (Metal Alumnico), followed by the reflective grey (iZen), the messy-patterned grey/black (Nutty Granola) and finally, the black (iGalaxy). Obviously nobody's gonna deliberately scratch their surface with a pair of scissors everyday. We were just bored and curious that's all (while waiting for Alan's update). :sport-smiley-004:

  12. Another morning, another day closer to "D-Day". As always, trying to curb the kancheong spider in me, and just wait for Alan to sort out his stuff and get back to me.

Went to Ikea over the weekend and found out that the latest delivery date is tomorrow. -.- My brother shopped there on Feb 8 and the delivery date for him is Feb 22. Go figure.

There was a lady behind me in the Q who told me that she boycotted Ikea for a year after they refused to deliver it on a weekend rather than a weekday. She then refunded every item in her cart and left in a huff. We would've refunded our cart too, and go back a week later, but there ain't no time for that, given how we've not even started packing a single thing.

Anyway, I bought some plastic sheets to wrap over the assembled furniture so they don't collect too much crap in 7 days. Heh.

I think after CNY maybe many deliveries so they held it back longer? But really this 3 day delivery policy is such a turn-off, that and the $20 storage per day thing. I've been holding off going to IKEA for 2 weeks to settle the kids' beds because of that. Might go tonight and hope they can send on Monday. I have loads of other stuff which have been delivered to my current house since a month ago, and I need them to assemble it too.

Re solid surface, I'm guessing granite is not an option? We're using black galaxy/imperial black. My mum's house used to have black galaxy counter top and also on the floor! Madness. And she had some bird's eye marble flooring in the living room. So we were very wary of water spills cos sure slip one! Anyway..I digress. So granite not an option?
