  1. Yappy..I heard about helping hand...my friend bought a set there with very nice grains..but it's around 2k after the sales..so I thought probably they are still above my budget haha..

But my friend say the quality and service is good..so ppl out there can try it out..the one she gt is around 400 bucks cheaper then other shop of similar design..really gd buy during their sales..

  2. I went to check up on my house painting( for our bedrooms) yesterday and was a little in shock as the color didnt turn out to be the color we like to have..I guess selecting from the color swatch really is abit different when its painted on the wall..we wanted lighter shades but now the color is more rich on the wall..

However this is the color we chose from the color swatch and I think if we were to re-paint, there will be additional cost..sigh...

  3. We also went to buy our hob and hood and sink and mixer tap from Hoe Kee (hob and hood slightly cheaper at Megastore but we just want to lump all the delivery together so bought at Hoe Kee)

We got Tecno Hob and Hood package and I choose 2 burner as I think I cant really multitask to much when cooking..so 2 is sufficient..haha..hub like the glass version so we took sparkling black glass surface. The Hood is the normal slimline one..

We took the Blanco stainless steel sink Naya 9 (credit the photo to some fellow reno talker) but I didnt choose the Blanco mixer..its a little too ex..so we change to another normal mixer..

  4. (continued)

    gallery_63855_546_35152.jpg

This one is from Picket and Rail..we kinda like this as the chairs come with cushion and the color is not really dark walnut..they sell it as a set and its really worthwhile to have 6+1 at this price... (eventually we bought this..the deal is too attractive to us..haha)

    gallery_63855_546_90272.jpg

This table is from Barang Barang..the color is a little too dark for our liking and its quite ex..around 2000plus for the whole set..

    gallery_63855_546_5481.jpg

This one is from Comfort Design..its super pretty and cheap..everything is good for this..but the table is a little small...if they sell in bigger size, I would have bought this..

  5. Recently, we bought quite a number of stuff..places like IMM, Sungei Kadut, Parkmall, Comfort Designs, Castlery, Like that One, Furniture Mall and IFC are some places we went to look for our furnitures..its really very tough to look for the right shade, right size and all for our house when there are no ID to consult (people who are very busy or really want to save trouble, its better to choose ID than contractor).

We were first looking for our dining table (6 seater) as its a pretty large piece and we hope to get something we like..both of us feel that its better to get solid wood than MDF so the search for solid wood dining set went on..as our budget is really really low, its very challenging to find something we like and of solid wood and is cheap..

These are some tables that we shortlisted..

    gallery_63855_546_32438.jpg

    gallery_63855_546_42077.jpg

These 2 solid wood dining tables are from Scanteak..looks really pretty and stable..but super super ex..as we wanted to buy a set..and a set like this will easily cost 2000plus..so we have to drop this..

    gallery_63855_546_10098.jpg

This one has pretty cool wood grain..its from submit house..same..too ex..around 2000plus for whole set also

    gallery_63855_546_61521.jpg

This one is from Ikea..also solid wood and the whole feel is just sooo nice and pretty and cheap..but hub say its abit light and unstable..so we have to forgo this..sighh..

  6. Hihi ElsaAnna..the drawings done by my hub..haha it looks very tough..I don't think I can do it too haha..

Anyway we look for contractors instead of IDs hoping to save some cost..because we are on really tight budget..anyway I pm you the contacts le..

I will still worry if tempered glass is used..haha so there's too much 'what if' in my head..so may as well change our initial design..although I worry if this cabinet will make my living rm look too small or dark...(initially wanted glass as it allow more light and will make the area look spacious)

  7. Recently we are faced with lots of difficulty deciding what to do with our display cabinet as my MIL keep mentioning that glass is really dangerous and she hope that we are not doing much glass related stuff in our house..

But our display cabinet as the partition between our living room and study area is of entire glass panel for the top half of the cabinet..

Is it really that dangerous..questions keep popping in our mind..will it suddenly shatter and hurt people?? if there are kids..will they throw something accidentally and smash the glass?? Is tampered glass really safer?? Gosh..all these are torturing us for weeks...

Does anyone of you have such concerns with glass display cabinet??

Anyway to ease our mind and my MIL, we decided to change the display cabinet into this, which is without any glass panel. Hope it will look good..what do you all think??

  8. I kinda like the feel from these photos

    gallery_63855_546_12271.jpg

    gallery_63855_546_9507.jpg

But the difference is that our flooring will be homogeneous tiles and we will have more wood furniture to have contrast with the flooring which is of a lighter shade.

Currently our flooring are completed as shown below before they cover up with the cupboard protection

    gallery_63855_546_25945.jpg

And this is the preparation for the brick wall and also the half completed wall by the contractor..hopefully it will turn out well..

  9. Now will be the installation of aircon..we are choosing mitsubishi starmex system 4 ..initially we wanted to go gain city..but we found out that my Hub's cousin able to give a cheaper rate plus he will use the thicker insulation tube..gain city still need to top up money for the thicker ones..but downside is need to pay cash la..cannot earn credit card points haha...

Then his cousin mentioned that as we are using thicker insulation tube, we will have 2 aircon trunking in our MBR...abit ugly..but I think really no choice..he even prove it to us that he couldnt squeeze all the tubes into 1 trunking..haha..(so effort la..)

    gallery_63855_546_18689.jpg

    gallery_63855_546_28043.jpg

Oh and he doesnt charge us extra for 2 times of installation as we wanted to only fix up the aircon only after painting..gain city need to charge $80plus i think..for the 2nd time..

  10. These are the photos of our flat..lucky for us that our living room is facing a park..so we wont be too near any buildings..

    gallery_63855_546_6992.jpg

These are my toilets..MBR toilet still quite spacious..but the common toilet abit narrow..

    gallery_63855_546_58211.jpg

    gallery_63855_546_46020.jpg

The kitchen really very small as the store room door is in the kitchen..hated this as as I cant do much cabinets but there are pros as well..because alot of my friends mention that at least its not in the living room..else it will look super ugly and they need to think of ways to hide it..

    gallery_63855_546_3688.jpg

  11. After complaining how hard it is to visualize my living room with the furniture..my Hub went to do up this 3D pic..haha now its much much better..although not the atas 3D by the ID but at least its better then having no reference haha..

This is the top view of the living room..roughly looks like this...

    gallery_63855_546_18922.jpg

This is the view from the sofa facing our pretty brick wall..hopefully its gonna be pretty as it cost so much...

  12. So for our home we told our contractors the things we wanted as follow:

L box for living, dining, study area, corridor and foyer as we wanted to have downlights at these area (no cove lights as we scared alot of insects or dirt will be trapped there..ewwww)

Homogeneous tiles for whole flat (wanted marble initially but **** **** ex haha...so give up the idea)

Brickwall for living room..this is what I love(lucky Hub allow me to have this) although its quite expensive and very very common nowadays..

Not much to be done in our toilets except the sliding glass door and cabinet for MBR toilet

Kitchen cabinets top and bottom for one side and bottom only for the other side with iQuartz

Bi-fold door at entrance to Kitchen (Hub worry the wastage of aircon if our kitchen is open de)

Full ht display cabinet to be the separator for our living and study area

Full ht shoe cabinet at foyer

    L-shape wardrobe at MBR

    Normal wardrobe at BR 2

So for our place there are no hacking as we didnt have the budget..and one thing about Contractors..they cant provide you with 3D drawings..so you have to visually imagine what is suitable and what is not..abit tough when you are getting your furnitures..which I am having difficulty now haha...

Jero..I will pm you the contacts..

  13. Finally we are getting our keys for our new home in an area that we are not too familiar with but hopefully will be great for us!!!

We actually look for ID or Contractor only after getting our keys and after viewing our new home..so we kinda started our reno after a month from taking the keys..

So here is our floor plan..a typical 5-Room BTO...

    gallery_63855_546_89209.jpg

Both Hub and I like wood for our furnitures and we both love the wood grain feel so we decided that it should be the main focus in our home..Hub also dislike dark colours as he feel mosquito always hide in dark places haha...So we decided that there should be lots of white in our home...after thinking through which theme should we pick..we thought that Scandinavian is the way to go...which is very popular and common now..but I think as long as both of us love it, it doesnt matter if its too common

We also have a rough idea on what we wanted for the house..nothing too complicated as my Hub is a super practical person..haha..so we decided to look for contractors instead of IDs. I know IDs will recommend really pretty and cool stuff for the house..but we are on really tight budget and we kinda know what we want thus we went ahead to look for quotations from contractors instead of IDs.

We took 3 quotations and also making reference to some of our friend's quotations before deciding on the ONE!! (Pray hard it will be a good one)
