  1. Nice how it's all shaped up.

Able to share with me your contact for the blinds?

    Thanks.

Hey JCase, PM sent! Hope you can get a good deal!

nice yuene! especially like your little vanity area behind the curtains :)

Thanks hafiizh, I love it too, and I actually spend a lot of time in there (shhh don't tell Evanta)! I see your reno is shaping up nicely too!

  2. hey yuene, Ikea missed out one drawer of your bed frame rite...

guess what, i got my Ikea delivery last weekend. when we opened up the package of our Framsta black glass panel, there is only 1 piece of glass inside (supposed to have 2 pieces) :o the delivery/assembly guys were also surprised~

think something is wrong with Ikea's packaging department recently :bangwall:

What the... yeah man, I think something really IS wrong with the IKEA packing department! When I bought my stuff from them last time (even up to January this year), there were no problems! Why suddenly so forgetful ah...

PS whatever happened to our meatball outing? :P

    .

yea.. am back, finally. i guess everyone got busy once the reno is finally over.

but have faith, our cohort will come back soon. i did, didnt i? ha

well, i went off for my wedding day preparation and thereafter spent time getting a few more items for the house (yes, we finally bought the ss steel bench, ha).

lots of house warming sessions ensued during the cny period, got even more things for the house, then a big move in my career and finally, took a short break to hk in feb and did something i always wanted to do since young.

i see. yea, i first come to know these pictures when i was at Cathay too. so i know who painted it. tks!

OOoh congrats ne0!!!! Especially on getting that super-chio s/s bench /wink

Nice that you got to take a short break! My last break was in December to Korea, and now I have no chance left to go on break, because I, too, am going to change job (my last day here is this Friday, and I start immediately on Monday--SIAN 1/2). And since I'm on probation for 3 months, there's no way I can leave the country for a break :(

Maybe we should all have a gathering at my house :)

    Hi,

Can Pm or email me your contractor contact I am looking for one to do my place thank you :)

    vendi_lim@live.com

    Hi beanbean,

    Sent :)

  3. Hi, where did you get the fabric sofa? I am looking for a L-shape one. Thanks

    Hi Pegasus,

I bought mine at Species, at the Furniture Mall; it cost us around $1.2K, if I didn't remember wrongly.

Before you buy from them, you might want to take a look at this thread first:

    http://www.renotalk.com/forum/index.php?sh...=16647&st=0

They called me back to let me know that the fabric I originally chose for my sofa was out of stock, and I could either wait for the fabric to come back in stock while they loaned me a sofa (in which case the sofa would be delivered at the earliest in January 2011...!!!! I made my order in October 2010), or I could change the fabric colour to one that was in-stock. I chose the latter, because I'd read the reviews and decided that if I let them hold on to the thing, if there are any more delays, god only knows when I would get my sofa. The sofa was delivered 1 week after the original date. No problems with it thus far. That's my personal dealings with Species up until now, but it seems that a few people have had bad experiences, so as usual, it's caveat emptor.

  4. Hi, isit bright enough for the whole bedroom?

Hmmm, well, it's bright enough for the part of the computer room that I had it installed in, but the light doesn't quite reach the other end of the room, because of a ceiling beam that's blocking the light. I have a similar light in my kitchen, and that is bright enough for the whole kitchen, which is slightly larger than that room, so it should be sufficient enough to do the regular tasks. Anything else and you might need to engage task lighting for that.

  5. A framed-up postcard from the Wun Ying Gallery (I have a big poster version of this that I lugged all the way from HK--I'll get around to having it framed someday...)

    DSC_4998.jpg

    hey hey hey... I'M BACK!

is such a joy to see everyone's transformation and yrs is no exception too!

i see choices of bold colors in the house eh

the postcard is nice! sort of similar art to your profile pic once. are they from the same artist?

Hey ne0!!!! Welcome back! Where have you been??? I was wondering where you (and come to think of it, titanax and lachesis) disappeared to.

Yup, bold colours in small splashes, because while I like a nice white palette, I also like to have cheery colours (that's why I have a yellow sofa ^^)

And yes, the postcard and one of my previous profile pics are done by the same artist--Carrie Wun Ying, who's based in Hong Kong. I visited her gallery in Gough St while I was there in 2009, so I brought home a couple of items from there. One of the shops on the 3rd level of Cathay does sell some of her stuff too (but very expensive).

  6. food processor? what can it do? i never use a food processor before.... :)

any recipes are welcome!!! i like to try new stuff..... and sometimes create my own too. just put this and that and hopefully turn out nice. sometimes it can never get the same again.... haaaaha.... :bangwall:

    Sent :)

I use a food processor for blending my onions and garlic for my curry--too leh-cheh to pound by hand on most days, and a blender doesn't quite do the same job. Food processors can also be used to make purees, as well as mix doughs etc.

  7. MORE PURCHASES

    OVEN

I wanted to buy an oven because i use oven to bake.... not baking cakes, but bake chicken and fish... maybe put it another way, roast chicken and bake fish. :P

So, while looking for washing machine and fridge, i was looking at ovens. Didn't know what type to buy other than it have to look good. then realised, the inside of the oven is more important than the outside.... i am not so worried about functions as roasting chicken and bake fish is just simple stuff. i am sure all ovens have the function for it (experts, am i right?)

After ranting and ranting, i have to show the picture of this oven:

    aristonoven.jpg

I got this oven for only $459 (but there is delivery charges of $30)

Oooh you like to bake too! I also love baking (and also, not cookies and cakes, but roasting meats and things like that). I have a recipe for roasted parsley and rosemary potatoes. You want?

Now i wonder what else i need for my new home. Anyone, any ideas??

A food processor would be good :)

  8. Study room with blinds slightly down:

    The foyer area:

    DSC_5066.jpg

The littlest things that take me there...

Spicing up my life (rather blur... hands were shaky after 4 rounds of sweeping and mopping):

    DSC_5058.jpg

A framed-up postcard from the Wun Ying Gallery (I have a big poster version of this that I lugged all the way from HK--I'll get around to having it framed someday...)

    DSC_4998.jpg

    And my tree clock:

    DSC_4994.jpg

Yes, the swing DOES swing as the clock ticks. It's the reason why I bought this clock (and the blurred image). I love it!

    Thanks for tuning in!

  9. More pictures...

My bed (with bedframe). Window blinds aren't down as the room is very dark with them drawn.

    DSC_5025.jpg

ps marshmallow IKEA called back, and they're fixing the drawer on the 26th! Finally =___=

    Walk-in wardrobe (with curtains drawn):

    DSC_5014.jpg

    And curtains pulled back:

    DSC_5010.jpg

    That's my vanity counter:

    DSC_5018.jpg

    Not reno-related, but:

    DSC_5044.jpg

Elaine's enjoying the bed. It's hers now, and I'm just borrowing it.

  10. The Haus of Yuene

It's been a long journey from the planning and conceptualisation of the renovation to the final product; in all, almost 3 years in the making. I've had loads of fun, and also had a learning journey--the first time is always the hardest, as they say.

It was the housewarming party with my salsa friends yesterday, so this afternoon, I did the cleaning up, and decided to take some nice shots with my DSLR (up until now, every photo of the completed house has been an iPhone camera shot--not too flattering really..)

    Without further ado, pictures!

From the entrance of the house:

    DSC_4995.jpg

    From the dining area:

    My dining area:

The other side of the kitchen (kinda messy):

  11. After so many months of slowly adding this and that... and of course sans one drawer...

The haus of yuene is finally complete. Housewarming is tomorrow, pictures will come up over the weekend. :)

This doesn't mean I won't log back into the thread, as I will continue to post up as and when I add new items and stuff like that. It's the little things that make a house a home.

  12. how can this be possible?? i thought ikea stuff all comes in standard packages? :bangwall:

I KNOW!!!! That's why I was even more shocked when my husband said they forgot one part of the drawer, and I went WTF how on earth is that even possible right???? I also dunno how they did that.

  13. Hi yeune!!!

Sorry I was MIA for the longest time. =p cos something came up and prevented me from logging on.

I will still be MIA-ing cos wun hv much time to log on, sorry.

Glad to c another success for edmund. Ur place look smashing! Also glad u got ur curtains.

Oooh... hope everything is okay on your end girl!

Update: My bedframe and my oven are in!!!!!!!

  14. i try ntuc and sungei kadut .. they dun have .. ikea has one but it's starts from the floor to our shoulder height ....

IKEA has a range of bookshelves that you might want to explore; from those reaching waist level to some reaching ceiling height. For example, the Billy range may suit your needs.

  15. Quotation, quotation, quotation...... (Part 1)

This quotation of the work to be done is provided by JGH, the first renovator I've met after I've gotten my floor plan. Personally, WTB and I like the way he goes thru systemically over each area and noting down the items to be done. As it was based on our first meet-up, in which our requirements were still a little fuzzy, the items might not be very updated, but nevertheless, it felt the most complete, in my opinion.

plus minus a bit... I'm expecting my final renovation cost to be ard $55K. and i'm being very optimistic here. :P

    Is my budget realistic?

    Hey csingeu,

If you are not intending to have kids anytime soon, you may wish to remove some of the window grilles from your quotation. Also, if the current main door and other room doors are still good and it fits your theme, you may want to retain them, asking the contractor to paint over them, which is what my contractor did as well (in fact, it was his suggestion)

My ID says cos mine are rock stone finishing so need thicker plastering.

Yup, mine too. Best to ask when they come for an actual site visit.

  16. anyone using standing fan or other cooling solutions (not ceiling fans, not wall-mounted fans, not aircon)? :P

I've used both ceiling fans and standing fans in my current house, and well, IMO I prefer ceiling fans, because I don't like the visual clutter of a standing fan.

What about a portable aircon? They might be a good compromise between airconditioning and fans... some models look nice and sleek as well.
