  1. lol.. sounds like me. except i will just close all windows since the windows have the privacy screens.

where u got your curtain from?

Heh! Mine are clear, plus I have a mirror that faces the window :oops so bo pian, until the curtains come in I have to hide in one corner... I got my curtains and blinds from dexufto's contact; they gave me a pretty good price, so I decided to go with them instead of the one that I found outside...

actually we also don't have curtains yet... but the difference is... we're not hiding in the dark when changing :notti: cos our windows are unblock and no one can see us anyway... hahahaha

Man! Lucky you, unblocked windows are so shiok!

  2. Rutter's "For the Beauty of the Earth" - i sang it back in my school choir days

hmmm seems like our choice of songs is kinda classical, ya? :P

Heh! I first heard that piece when I was in secondary school, when the choir sang that too! KNS later we both find out we're from the same school... wahahahahahaha! Out of curiosity, what part did you sing?

BTW dexufto, just to ask, are those beds with hydraulic storage underneath difficult to lift up?

  3. Has your desired bedframe arrived? :sport-smiley-018:

Likewise I'm waiting for one of the expedite's black drawers as well.. been delayed since Nov.

Oops! I haven't gone to check yet, since we went a fortnight ago, but the stock wasn't in... they said 3-4 weeks from then... looks like I'll be stalking IKEA the next two weekends!

    Woes to DOM.

WAHAHAHAHAHAHA~ But then again, nothing much to see also... :P

  4. And thank you ladies,

    for your kind offer to help;

May i ask what wedding music do you use for procession, marching/ march out?

For my church processional, I got my friends to sing John Rutter's version of 'For the Beauty of the Earth'. I can't quite remember the recessional's name, but I do remember the tune.. I think it was called 'Trumpet Voluntary'. For the dinner, the first march-in was Dean Martin's 'That's Amore' and the second, 'Lady in Red', which was what I was wearing.

Other popular choices include Twila Paris' 'How Beautiful', Libera's 'Sanctus'. I have a song that is perfect for a march-in, but not religious, so if you are interested in a listen, let me know and I'll send it over... it's called Coronation, about 2 minutes long, from the anime Last Exile.

i nvr did believe in all tt hype abt mattresses.

bought mine frm this little mattress shop located above a lighting shop at Balestier a couple of years ago. paid slightly over 1k for a KingKoil. everytime i see those mattresses selling for over 2k....i wanna faint. we guys shld think back to our NS days. wat sort of mattresses were we sleeping on every nite? did we encounter any particular back problems due to the mattress? i dun think so. if we had any back problems, it was more cos of our training and poor posture when we were lifting heavy things.

I agree. I bought my mattress for about $700, and it's served us well for 4 years plus now. No brand, but no complaints!

  5. huh? 5th mar? so near and u're only starting to plan now? tell me u're joking.

Aiyah don't worry so much la! The night before my wedding, I was up creating a powerpoint for the service the next day lor...hahahahaha Anyway dexufto if you need any help ask us yeah?

  6. count me in! this is the icon with one hand up: :yamseng: or this: :yeah: hahaha~

well now pple are usually prepared to make a loss for wedding cos banquet price increases steadily but not the ang pao cost

initially we also wanted a simple church wedding, we ended up with a church wedding and 2 banquets, thanks to our parents and relatives........... :P

maybe your turn will come soon leh! hee hee

Ya man, some are still stuck in the idea that a dinner is still at year 2000 rate... but ouch... these days I only pick the weddings of close friends (or where I know both bride and groom) to attend... Really lor, it's true though, the dinner is mostly for our parents...

  7. did you get the bookshelf on your meatball tuesday? :P

Haha nope! I got it about 2 Saturdays ago or so... but they only delivered it yesterday due to a mix-up in delivery dates!

i've also noticed a lot of fellow Christians in ur thread. wonder if can hv a show of hands who is? me first... :sport-smiley-003: ...2 hands....tt's the only icon i can find wif 2 hands up!....lol...

  9. Hello! Welcome to RT!

With regards to space planning (especially in the kitchen), you might want to draw to scale--it will help you visualise the space usage. Also, as a general rule, there should be about 90cm clearance space for easy movement. Floorplanner has a function that allows you to measure out the space between your furniture and walls etc, so you can have a more accurate picture as to how big (or small) the space is.

  10. I like the fact that it's extensible, so that we can actually accommodate more friends/relatives during house parties or reunion dinners. :P

WTB hates it. She thinks such tables (due to all the moving parts), tend to get damaged easier and she also thinks the leaves make it looks ugly, cos it's not 1 complete piece of table top.

    http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S09861434

Do you think it's matching with the Bjursta dining table? I kind of like it. :)

Tell your WTB to cover it with a nice table runner, or table cloth! Tada problem solved :P But she does have a point, and sometimes the leaves of the table can be heavy, so do note when you take them out that 1) the leaves that hide the extension may be hard to move (especially if over time they warp) and 2) the hidden leaves will probably take both of you to set up.

    PS the chairs are nice!

i think can la... you don't look so fat mah~ quite a number of forumers used the LACK shelf as seats. i guess you can do it without legs~ ;)

i initially wanted to use a LACK or EXPEDIT for shoe rack + seat too, but dropped the idea cos i felt it can't hold many shoes.....

Haha! You should talk to my husband's weighing scale; I stepped on it once and the number display kept scrambling (it's one of those liquid-crystal display types). I looked at pinkhubby and said, "I think your weighing scale hates me."

And yeah, LACK cannot hold many shoes... about 8 pairs in total? Unless you kitbash it and add a divider running through each cubbyhole, in which case it will take a max of 16 pairs...

  11. Hi Yuene, would u mind PM your reno quotation? Or the overall money u spent?

cos ur reno looks lovely ...

    thanks

    PM sending!

think better to get one or two more quotations. different materials then different prices. just like the curtain rod can be either wood, aluminum or steel :deal:

Oooh, I didn't think of that! Will check again, and will definitely get another quotation. Thanks reizzz!

  12. Hey all,

    Need your opinion on something:

Install and supply roller blinds for Master Room (window is two panels long, but blind is 1 piece)

Install and supply day and night curtain for Master Room's Wardrobe

Install and supply roller blinds for Study Room (window is three panels, but blind is 1 piece too)

Total is $1,000. Is that a reasonable amount?

  13. Yeah. I was reading some of the articles abt using the LACK and EXPEDIT series of shelves as a bench / settee. Apparently not very sturdy. As for installing the legs, it can be done, but it has to be precisely under the area whereby there's a vertical adjoining piece; if not, the legs might just puncture through under weight.

Furthermore, it's prob necessary to install an extra pair of legs at the centre to prevent sagging.

Yup; that's why I chose not to install legs on mine, although at that time when I bought it, we were using it as our TV/PC bench, and it was a strain on the neck somewhat... The sagging issue can be partly countered by leaving it flat on the floor... but yeah, you can feel it sag at times when you sit on it! Sometimes I have to ensure that I sit on the part where there's the vertical crosspiece for support... maybe it's a sign that I need to lose weight...

    2. GREVBÄCK bench with shoe storage

    GREVBACK%20bench%20with%20shoe%20storage

    79x38x46 cm antique effect

    $99

    Materials:

    Moisture resistant particleboard, Foil

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The GREVBÄCK bench with shoe storage seems like a gd choice, at $99 (it's relatively more affordable), and the color and finish fit my theme better.

And at 79cm wide, it's wide enough to squeeze 2 small butts.

But I'll prob look at other furniture shops too. haven't really started sourcing for furniture

WTB likes Scanteak stuff. Some friends recommended getting those package from Cellini (which includes bed frame, sofa, coffee table, etc).

Anyone using the Ikea GREVBÄCK bench with shoe storage??

That looks nice too! PS good luck with the furniture hunting...

  14. LOL :P yeah...

    I'm from 2lf...

I think I'm more remembered as the zz -faced guy...

Hahah no leh, I don't remember you as the zz-faced guy... remember you mostly as one of Ling's friends...

    1. To have a shoe cabinet cum settee.

    foyer%20settee%201.gif

IKEA LACK shelf hack... but may not be sturdy enough for me... :(

I'm currently using the LACK shelf as my shoe-wearing bench. Okay la, it's not super-sturdy, but I think it should be good for a while yet. It's a bit prone to sagging over time (particleboard, what to do), but I think that can be countered by flipping it over from time to time, so that one side doesn't get overused (over-sat-on?), which means that unlike the picture, cannot install the legs... then again, having the legs as in the picture would increase the pressure/sq inch when you sit on it, so just as well I guess...

Very convenient to put shoes in the little cubby holes though :P

  15. Hi Yuene!

Nice to see things are shaping up - love the orange kitchen backsplash, and the colour of the study! Also like the light you got for your WIW. :D Also love how you recycled your old TV/PC bench into a seating bench. Very creative :paint:

What colour will the velvet curtain in your WIW be?

$4 meatballs on Tuesdays!?!? Count me in!! Love the Ikea meatballs... and the fried chicken wing... dammit now I'm hungry.

Hope your bedframe comes in soon!

    Hey Lachesis!~

Thanks, I'm of the strict school of 'don't waste, don't want', so since it was in good condition, I decided to keep it around. It is starting to sag a bit, though, so I suspect I'll have to replace it before the year is out. Will get a white one then, to match the rest of the furniture! I'm also going to get some nice round flat colourful cushions and baskets for it, so that it will serve even better as seating/storage =) I haven't thought about the colour of my curtains, but maybe to match the colour scheme, I was thinking of a layer of maroon, and a layer of sheer white. For that slightly more luxe feel /wink

Alright for the meatball Tuesdays! Let's see... how about next Tuesday? Would that be good? I can go see if my bedframe is (finally) available then!
