  1. Day 66: the final countdown

My contractor has promised that Saturday will be our HO date. I was a bit skeptical, because up until yesterday, there'd been minimal progress at my place, AND the laminates had not come in. Today, I met him at lunchtime at my place to discuss placement of my toilet accessories.

I am glad to report that

    photo2-1.jpg

The laminates ARE up. Well, they are up in the two bedrooms, at the very least. The laminates guy was there laying the boards as we were discussing where to put the items, and he said he'd be able to finish the remainder by today, and the skirting by tomorrow.

    photo-1.jpg

This is closer to the actual colour of the boards.

And my main gate is up (it was up on Monday, actually)

    photo3-1.jpg

And the doors are painted. I'm pleased.

  2. wooo salsa.. lotsa twists and turning? :o

    ganbatte :sport-smiley-004:

Lol! Twists, not so much. Turns, YES! Have to do 6 spins to reach the position and hit the final pose. This choreo is not very spin-heavy though... I think I should go get a few pieces of clothing, wash them, wear them during performance and SPIN-DRY them! Hahahhaha okay I stop now.

My doors have been painted and the gate installed, but other than that nothing else... my laminates are still not there, but I think my backsplash will come in tomorrow. I'm meeting Edmund at 1pm to determine where the last items must go. Dunno if really can handover by 6 November...

  3. Thanks dexufto & neubie

    Will check out Contractor too

Trying to get Iz but no reply from him

Any1 know is DX interior is contractor or ID

cos some said ID, other said contractor

will upload my general plan later

    Hi wickaninsh,

Edmund is a contractor. He does provide 3Ds, but he does not do things like shop for tiles with you, give you detailed advice on the types of colour scheme etc. He will give practical advice, but that's as far as it goes. Hope that helps.

  4. wah, what performance??

think i'll take pictures after all my furniture are in. they'll only be in around end of nov or early dec

Salsa performance :) For the festival to be held in 2nd week November.

Oooh okay... looking forward to your pics then!

  5. Happy and headache at the same time :x The packing and unpacking nightmare~! :o

Anyway i think the workers working late is inevitable since they are behind schedule but most importantly is they do a good job safely.

I know! I'm putting off the packing at my mum's place until the last possible minute. Heh heh! No la, it's because my performance is on 12 November, so I can't really spend time on that right now. Not with trainings bumping up to 3 times a week (and 4 times in the last week!) But hey, soon you'll be inside your lovely new home enjoying! That's a lovely goal to look forward to! Don't forget to take pictures after the move-in (and unpacking)...

That's the life of contractors…no day no night one.

I also say la. But really, 10.20pm...

  6. doing tactical frosting on it later

actually we did not aim for any standard theme, just earthy warm tones...but it does appear to turn out kinda resorty :P

Lol titanax tactical frosting!!!!! Really nice effect (even though it wasn't quite planned)... are you going to install plants inside?

  7. Day 57: ...say WHUH..?

Last night, at 10.16pm, I received this SMS:

C: Wapzzzzzz the worker jus call me to tell me they fixing the thing now

    Y: Huh?????? NOW?!?!?

    C: Yup now!!!!!!!!!

    Y: Wah lau eh

C: But they say not noisy leh

Y: Why they so hiong one dun need slp

Later on, he SMSed again at 11.03pm:

C: Er??? U know wat worker?????

C: U know wat they doing now????

Unfortunately, at that time I'd fallen asleep, so I only read that SMS this morning. In my mind, I thought "wah, why his workers so boliao, go and fix my door and the pull-out rack at 10pm one". So I decided to pop by during lunch to see if they'd done it right this time round.

Nothing could have prepared me for this sight:

    solidtop.jpg

WTF they were at my place installing my solid top AT 10.20PM?! :jawdrop:

Oh, and my hob too, apparently:

    hobup.jpg

If you look a bit carefully, it's sehgnet (a bit)...

I don't know whether to be happy and take my hats off to them, or be horrified that they were working at such a late hour... I guess I'll just stick to being happy.

  8. my side nothing much leh. only the lighting.com guys came and fix up the remaining light for my mbr. edmund called me yesterday and said they will be polishing and washing the floor this week. then handover on next wed 3th nov. :sport-smiley-004:

Woooot~~~ Congrats on your imminent handover!!! You must be super excited la! So fast...

  9. House is shaping up nicely! I have the same fan too! In fact I bought 2! 1 white one for the LVR and the antique bronze one ( the one that u have) for the MBR..

The wind is quite strong at low speed and it's nice and quiet. Enjoy your fan.. I had absolutely no regrets buying the Fanco Aroma fan.

    Hi curryqueen,

Thanks! Good to hear that the fan is powerful, I tested out at the shop and it was quite strong too, but I wasn't sure how strong it would be minus aircon and in a more enclosed space...

  10. you're using gas tank? not citygas?

btw, another nice 3rm flat... :D where's this location?

    Hi neubie,

My house is in Clementi (along the MRT line) Yes, using gas tank, because I'm partially afraid of a situation where one of us forgets to switch off the gas knob completely, and also because I'm just too used to gas tanks now.

  11. I really like your lights....really nice and cosy feel yet bright enuff and the ceiling fan too :)

hope can achieve the same effect haa

Hi paulchng! Thanks.. I must thank the forummers (so sorry guys! I can't remember who I asked specifically... I think I did ask samgalz!) who provided me advice on the downlights, as I wasn't sure either as to how much lighting each would provide. Mine are 2 x13W. My lights are a mixture of daylight, warm and cool white lights. It really depends on what room the light will go into, what function the light plays, and what colour scheme the room already has.

For example, my bedroom spotlights are a warm white, and they cast a warmer yellowish glow, which goes well with the brown-coloured wall, because they are in the same colour family. At the same time, because it is a bedroom, and I don't do anything but sleep in there, it would be best to keep the lighting warm for a cosier feeling. In contrast, my study room light is a cooler white light, which goes well with the aquamarine wall near the window, again because the lighting is in the same colour family. Also, cooler white lights tend to look 'brighter' than warm white (though I find they aren't as bright as daylight whites), I used the cooler white.

I actually don't like using warm whites for task lighting because I find it makes me feel sleepy. But that's just me.

In other news, I bought my sofa today. Forgot to take a photo. Whoops...

  12. Day 53 cont'd: Hearth and home

The lights weren't the only things up:

    kitchenoverall.jpg

The kitchen is up, too! They haven't installed the hob, tap and solid surface yet, but everything else is up. Another picture of it:

    kitchenleft.jpg

    sink-1.jpg

    My kitchen sink!

    And... some rectifications...

Something is not quite right about this picture...

    bottomcabinets.jpg

I MMSed my contractor the photo with the following comment:

Nice job on the cabinets! Love them. I have a small question tho... Where am I going to put my gas tank?

The other problem, of course, is that the pull-out basket is on the side where the door opens, such that I will have to reach 'over' the door to get to the things there, or step around the door. Not very ergonomic! So I requested to shift it to the other side if possible. He said he'll go on Saturday to look at it.

    And...

    sehnget.jpg

My contractor, when MMSing me this in the daytime, told me it was crooked. I was quite surprised, because from the photo it didn't look crooked to me. But last night when I went there, it was indeed crooked--you don't need OCPD to see this one! One more on the list of rectifications to make.

  13. Day 53: Live in rooms full of light ~Cornelius Celsus

It's all very fine and good to buy lightings, but the last thing anyone really needs is to find out that the lights aren't quite bright enough to fill the place. Because I enjoy reading and I have pretty bad astigmatism, I need a good amount of light in my reading spaces, which is, well, about everywhere in the house. So I decided to drop by in the evening to see the effect of the lights at my place.

As luck would have it (well, not quite lucky, seeing that I'm also asthmatic), the haze was very thick last night, making the evening very dark by the time I reached home after my haircut, so I had a good opportunity to test how bright the place would be. I know the photos will be a little repetitive, but just bear with me for a while:

Living room with all lights on:

    lvralllights.jpg

With just one side on (crucially, where my sofa will be):

    lvfleftside.jpg

It's bright enough to read by, actually, with just that light.

    MBR lights

    MBRnightlight.jpg

It's actually a bit more yellowish, brighter and cosier-looking than this. I blame my iPhone.

So actually, for a living room that's about 7m x 3m, 6 downlights are more than enough to illuminate the place. Of course, having the fan light is also useful, in case you want to vary the mood as well. One very important thing is your lighting plan--always ensure that you can control exactly which set of lights you want on. I don't think I'll use all downlights (I suspect the ones on the right side of the living room will be under-utilised, since they are just there in the event of a party), so help yourself save some electricity.

  14. MPFC spin-off movie ;)

 Are you a MP fan too?

And now for something completely different, the home's beginning to finally take shape with color lights & woodwork - looking forward to the finale ;)

Me too! I was going to drop by last night to take photos of the place with the lights on, but got lazy after Wala Wala...
