    wow...i must say..

    firstly, all of your comments and own personal experiences are really waking me up in terms of the financial aspects of this major life turning event of mine.

    to DSA,

    the first time i read your post, i was a bit stunned. thinking is he insulting me or trying to act smart, but i chose to re-read your post 2-3 times and realise, HEY, you do really know your stuff VERY WELL and you made perfect sense.

    no parquet flooring for me, just laminated flooring. i know i didnt state much details and i admit its because i haven got down to actually doing full blown research and familiarise myself with this whole, renovation thing, its jargons, etc. carpentry,painting, wetworks(with til now, i still dont know what it means). :P

    but yeah, several points and angles which i have not thought of came to light via your post, that cost aint everything.

    so now, i am left with two options

    1. secure a reno loan and do a DECENT reno

    2. save some more + personal loans frm non-interest generating sources(think:family) and add bit by bit.

    For now,

    I want to go to option 2. with concentration on putting tiles first and not 'kacau-ing' the electrical points. maybe add just lights first.

    Homo tiling Living room + walkway: 1500

    Lamination 3 rooms: 1200

    Kitchen: 2000

    Painting:800

    Electrical: 0 No false ceiling, dun pull any lighting points just pure installation of lights at given points

    Haulage: 1000

    Random items (curbs, kitchen + washing machine concrete base): 200

    Shower doors: 500

    Air-con (2 split): 2000

    Storage Heater: 245 poh joo (ask them for help in installation) - alternatively can buy 1 electric heater and forgo hot water in 1 toilet.

    Hob: think 300 is enough, forgo the hood save 200

    Kitchen Sink+ Tap: 200

    Light: Ikea => 4 round lights for bomb shelter, service yard, toilet*2 => 67.6

    Normal Rectangular florescent lights: 5 (becos living rm need 2) => 300 When they come, pester them to help to install the other lights as well in toilet.

    Total: $9513

    thank you for your inputs. i am trying to cut paste all replies and slowly read and digest. :notti:

    may i ask, if it is advisable i do my own painting? save $800. quite a bountiful in my terms.

    should i get all sub contractors? or go with the reno package? if reno package does it mean ID? b'cos i dont think i can afford ID or am willing to loan so much,for now. :dunno:

    after sleeping well last night, me and Future Hubby decided we do not want a burden of reno loans on top of our current loans. Thus we will only be doing the bare minimum reno of no choice items like..

    1. Tiles for living room

    2. Laminate flooring for all bedrooms

    Any persons kind enough to know if 10k is enough to cover all this?

    As we are young couple, yet to plan our wedding(another simple affair) next year plus burdened with un-settled student loans, we decided, jus do only the necessary and for 'nice to haves' when we are more financially ready to splurge.

    For this weak flush, check whether the water level in the tank gt half fill and above a nt.. cos mine is less den half-fill.. also check the lever(cisterns) connecting the pipe at the right bottom of the bowl.. make sure is fully turned on... check the pump thingy in the tank oso... :)

    If still cannot.. i suggest report to BSC for them to rectify the fault - could be the bowl system problem if all the sink, basins, taps and shower heads are working fine...

    hmm..i want to use the banner as well, may i effie?

    Hi,

    Just collected my keys today.. :dancingqueen: veri comfortable with my flat.. den went open door with my FM.. he said our unit gd n bla bla.. hope so..haha...

    tml i will go to my unit again.. if anyone interested to come.. feel free to PM me if not is ok.. act wan ppl to help me spot defects la.. haha.. :) cos i cant spot much defects leh.. all like working.. except those main door swing fast.. paint some areas diff colour patches... nothing serious.. trying hard to find liao..

    btw just to notify those who getting sofalaab sofa.. if we buy in jul, the price(based on delievery dates) on the current website will no longer valid.. it will be push back by a month for all the prices..after june.. Sofa lab...

    dear ALL,

    i seek your advise. my dad just passed away a few days ago and I dont think i want to ROM this year.

    the AHG is finaly just granted 2 days ago.

    what shall i do now ...can i ask them to defer giving me the keys? or must I really go through with the ROM even though i am not ready for it..*all of a sudden*

    Hmm, cant confirm but can provide supporting possible evidence coz I applied for AHG but haven't received any notification about key collection though quite a number of 220Cers have already gotten their appointments.

    ahhh..no wonder they forgot abt me!!!

    called them more than 3 times.. loan side say is with sale side.. even sent me mail stating that i haven sent which i sent a month back..

    now the officer say.. shld be at sale side den say he will go n retrieve.. will update me.. nw have to wait lo...

    darcbleu: I think the pics that Bubbly posted are similar to the 4-room ones one. So you can be 'rest assured' that's the bathroom we're gonna have to 'live with'. *sigh* And what are those silly red and blue markings???

    My hubby said they're patterns on the wall. Why put patterns like that??? I'd rather not have patterns and just plain wall lah. So silly. Like you, I will change the basin also ... not nice leh. My hubby thinks it's useable. *sigh* So ugly! As it is, I have to put up with the ugly tile colors, now still have to put up with the lousy basin. Eh, toilet bowl only one standard flush lah. What you expect? Half and full? Those are premium bowls leh.

    As for the Master Bathroom toilet door, think no choice but might have to change it to open on the other side instead. Coz you are right, once it opens, it'll block the shower area.

    DSA: You very naughty leh ... not that I vain lah ... just wanna have a cabinet to store things like tissue and toilet paper supplies mah. Having more storage furniture in the house is always good. Huh??? More and more bad news? First ... those ugly tiles in the toilet, then the basin so near the shower area and now, cannot put shower screen? Wah biang ... they really pushing us to the corner leh! Did they design these flats with the 1990s in mind???

    eipsy: We definitely have to do our shower screen. This one not condo. ;)

    my parents went down to the new flats yesterday and the contractor told them 219C will be taking their keys from next week onwards....dunoe how true that is...

    I feel that there are a few thing to look at

    - flooring - what type

    - Kitchen

    - Master Room

    - Lightings

    - Cupboard

    Work from there perhap it have help to zero on the planning.

    i agree with you. what i did was to do up a simple excelsheet and start thinking wat i want to do in each room and slowly start building it from there, otherwise there is simply TOO MUCH things to consider and factor in.

    RENO

    - Must haves (Needs)..e.g. Flooring, Kitchen Cabinets,Lighting, Wiring,Painting,Grills

    - Can haves - False ceiling? Built in wardrobe, shoe cabinet..etc

    - Luxuries - Nicer bathroom..haiz..this one like giving up the idea..

    hi cacky, from gg to the showflats or basically flats that are doign reno now, kitchen tiles are done. and kitchen walls are half tiled.

    If u r really keen on doing up toilet, just go ahead.. if not u might regret after moving in.. u will be facing it for at least 5 years man!!

    If there is a budget constraint, don do feature wall, just buy a stylish n nice console can le(should be cheaper den the customize make feature wall cum console.. combo)... WIW can do if u wanna hack wall.. if not space will be crampy.. might as well do a normal 1.. thats wat i think lo...

    For capentry wise, try not to do customize make 1 lo.. cos usually more exp than outside one(IKEA, Vhive, Novena). not those high end one la(milan, mondi and etc).. not sure on these oso.. hehe

    Kitchen don need to so nice.. unless u will be hanging there most of time which i don think u r... hehe

    just do wat u want to c in yr home.. cos u r living there... :P

    for bedrooms. i was thinking of built in wardrobe but was told at least will spend 3k+

    the problem with the tv socket at the short wall can be easliy solved as explained by one contractor that they will pull the cable and hide the socket point and hide the cable under your new flooring and hook it up to the long wall side lo. but for those who gotten hdb ceramic flooring then i think will have a problem.

    i think we bedok central gang almost everywhr in renotalk that i get confused and forgot whr i post ...haha

    anyways..

    i was thinking of mounting the tv ..but given the short wall, hav no sofa, as it would definitely jut out and to me looks weird?

    any ideas hw to tackle this?

    beenies? huge one?

    plus..haiya..so sad still checking everyday the singpass link and just kept showing, HDB will invite you to sing the agreement in due course.

    Probably, even if you are sitting on the floor watching it as your height is 1.8 m. I suggest the users of your living room sit on many sofas in furniture showrooms, once they found the most comforable sofa, measure the vertical distance from the eye level to the floor - that would be the vertical distance from the centre of the TV to the floor.

    hey guys, after looking at the short wall, and thinkin shld we make a panel to extend the wall, wic will den block the entrance to the lane to all rooms, OR placing the TV on the short wall...

    i was thinking of doin away with the sofa and just placing huge beenies (but not so poor quality ones) those you find in AU, for lounging, if you get wat i mean.

    do you think its practical to not buy sofa? its like my 4rm hall will just be a small corner if i place a sofa or coffee table...hmmmmm :bangwall:

    if you had 1st appointment liao the 2nd appointment should be within 3 mths, HLE is vaild for 3 mths. for my case HDB extended my HLE for me as it expired abt 3-4 days before my appointment :) all the best for your second appt.

    or by the way alot of things to sign ;) the appointment letter will advies roughly how much to bring along. if you want to apply for the electricity and water it can be done after that
