Hi there! I have just kick started my 2-months long renovation but am already bogged down by two troubles 1) Unsatisfactory quality of work provided by window installation contractor The window contractor provided sub-par service e.g cement was unevenly applied such that some stretches are more hollow. This is not a joking situation as my flat is a corner-unit, hence should the windor falls due to poor installation, it could easily kill passerbys or break cars. On the first complain, the contractor has agreed to re-do the cementing. In their own defence, the contractors claimed that the unsatisfactory work was due to the fact that the employees are not well-trained in handling high-rise hdb flats; more trained in handling landed houses. Also, the dust filter that should be securely stuck to the bottom-edge of the window easily peel-ed off!! What can I do if the re-cementing is still unsatisfactory? 2) Incessant complaining from neighbour staying directly below our unit Since the start of our renovation, this neighbour has been making persistent complains about our noisy renovation. However, our contractors have completed the major hackings within the assigned dates. On everyday basis, renovation begins after 9am and ends before 6pm. Apart from complains on noise, she has also accused us of ruining her ceiling. Prior to kicking start our renovation, we had requested to enter their house and took photos of their ceilings. Photos were provided as evidence that her current state of ceiling were the same prior to our renovation. She has since insisted for us to pay for her maintenance else she would sue us. Any advice on this second trouble? Would appreciate any advice/suggestion on these double troubles :(

Hi all, need advice on this. My vanity cabinet with solid top was just completed by my contractor. However, there is no spacing from the edge of the left door to the wall and huge spacing from the right door to the wall as shown. When I feedback to contractor, he explained that cos it's a tight space so always will need to make smaller to fit it in, hence the gap in the right. Rubbish or truth? (p.s both sides of the wall are flushed)

I have been a silent reader and follower of this forum since my fiance and I received our keys in May 2015 - we have been kinda chill about this so the process only started proper last month haha. Before I begin, I would really like to give my biggest heartfelt thank you to all the bloggers here who have shared their experiences because it has helped me so much, if not entirely in my own process. We are halfway through the renovation process now and I thought I would start writing about our renovation journey and hopefully, our experience would help all of you in your own exciting experience. The initials of our names form WHAT - hence the title ahha. We are both easties at heart so imagine our joy when we successfully applied for a sales of balance BTO in the Bedok area. It is about 10 mins walk to Bedok MRT, and we ain't got a good view (unless you count having a free show of watching your neighbours go about their business as one) but I gladly sacrificed that so that we could still be in an environment we grew up in. So here is our very humble home layout - a 4 room unit. I guess you could call our theme scandustrial (are you bored of this already?) but I love the woody warm feel, mixed with a little bit of industrial (black framed glass and wirings), and marble-tops - I will just let the photos do the talking for the inspirations. I guess you can say I am into a lot of white, grey and brown shades heh.

Hi guys, I would actually like to share my experience with a contractor/id, give them a little shoutout in return as they really managed to give me the full package and i'm so so thankful. They are recommended by my friend. My house is a 4-room flat and have not changed for almost 20 years and kitchen has worn and torn. So I'm getting my whole kitchen and whole house painting done and on quite a tight budget as i can't take up loans and also on a tight timeline. Though my house is still undergoing renovation, but i can say the process up till now is very satisfying. My budget was $10,000+-. At first the quotation they gave me was nearly $12,000 but after i went down for further discussion and taking my budget into consideration, they were very understanding and considerate so the end quote is $10,020++. Their consultant especially is very friendly. I texted her almost everyday asking questions and even called her . I thought she would find me annoying. She was also the one who sent me pdf copies of all the quotation even after i keep changing my mind. Usually other people would ignore me or reply late and send their quotes through text. But she very was sincere. After that when i went down for further consulltations they even guided me in choosing materials and designs to best fit my requirements and budget. I can see they treat all their clients with care like a priority which is shocking as nowadays i've heard from my family friends encountering rude ids or people who just ignore you once they see the budget. Very pekcek when it happened to me. During renovation all i can say is their manpower 10/10. I know they have quite a few other clients to renovate for but despite all of it, the manpower are still positive plus i have to get all these done within 2-3 weeks. Whenever i have questions regarding certain works, they explained to me nicely. I know I know i'm kindof annoying when i'm unsure hahahaha... So overall for now im very satisfied with whats going on in my kitchen. Can't wait for it to be done then i'll post up the pictures and do a final review But for now heres the final quote they sent me! Do pm me if you want their contact! Don't trust this contractor! When we first met him, he seemed genuine, helpful and sincere. The wall between our master bedroom and one of our common rooms were hacked previously in our resale flat to make a huge room. Because we were expecting our child, we decided to put it back and open up the original doorway. We only needed to build a wall, hack another wall to open a door. He assured us that he would personally check daily to ensure that the job was done properly. But we realised he cut corners, and damaged many of our existing structures including the parquet floor (he promised at the beginning that it wouldn't happen). There were several indentations in our wooden floor, and less than 2 weeks after we build the new wall, we could see visible cracks. When we told him about it, he shirked all responsibilities, came up with a million excuses and told us that such damage was very common. He refused to address our problems and deliver on his promise, and became very rude. At many points during our conversations, he even managed to blame the damage on us even though we brought it up right after the project was done. Granted, we were foolish to pay up in full even before all the rectifications had been done. We are very disappointed, and would like to warn others not to entrust their beloved homes to this hooligan. I still have nightmares about this guy and the work provided. Full disclosure: This is a simple renovation job after we've lived in the house for five years. We weren't expecting pristine conditions but that Robin would at least deliver on his promises to not damage our floor.

Hi all, I was fond of looking for interior designs and renovation then came across in this website. Started reading some renovation recommendations and I just want to also share my renovation experience with this ID and they have their own contractor as well. I just want to help those who are looking for ID / contractors to transform their house into a home. My friend recommended them and scheduled for an appointment to discuss our reno. They were very open to our suggestions of what kind of design concept we want and they were also great at suggesting alternative concept to make the designs improve more but with a cheaper budget. They were very good at explaining the details and how they update the schedule of the reno. They were very accommodating and all the small issues were settled. Hi guys, i would like to share my good experience and complement a contractor, project management skill in building our dream home! what set them apart from other firms is that he is able to to accommodate to our schedule and gave us detailed planning to save space also his willingness to listen and provide valuable advice on design aesthetics and functionality, giving us a truly unique home. After consulting several firms, they are able to deliver what other contractors could not. During renovation stage, he pays a lot of attention to details and is able to execute flawlessly on what we had planned, He is very helpful and supportive during our renovation journey and ensure the quality and build is done to the utmost standards. All in all, although what we seek is a contractor but the service he gave was like of a id. I really like his ideas and proposed 3D designs and amendments were always made promptly according to my preferences. I also appreciate that he always try to work around my budget while still achieving what I wanted in the end. It's been nearly 2 months after hand over and there was only 1 rectification so far and was promptly. i'll attach some photo here for viewing, feel free to dm me if you want to see more.

Hello all! Been stalking this place for a couple of years and it is finally our turn to start a t-Blog for our first home! We are currently in the sixth week of our renovation already, will try to recap and share as much as possible. Opps, we digressed for a few weeks because the to-do list is never-ending..... and we, or maybe myself, are/is very very very fickle. Renovation is full of life-changing decisions which will be cemented onto or nailed into the house, quite scary since these decisions might stay with us for the rest of our lives (if we don;t move)! Also, the need to balance between quality, aesthetics, practicality and price is very very very challenging. We can be pondering over the same issue for weeks, visit many many different (or the same) shops and look at many many different brands/designs for each item before we can finally make a decision. Our contractor is constantly chasing us to tell him our choice of colors, chasing us to buy the items and etc, but I guess we are pretty lucky that it is not the other way round hahaha! We have engaged a reputable Contractor, Pavixxxx Creatixx (been in the reno market for more than 10 years) and also a HDB approved Company. The renovation was done with no major issues, everything went through smoothly until after we moved in:- The floating shelf in the children's bedroom has not been secured properly, the study desk drawer dropped when opened, shoe cabinet has cracked without known reasons. i have been sending the boss messages on these issues but she simply ignore. Under our signed agreement, the carpentry works has a 2 years warranty with on site service. anyone can advise on this? thanks! below was the conversation on 12 Jun 18. almost 2 weeks and still no news from the boss.. totally give up on her.

Hi, we'd recently gotten our keys to 5room resale flat. Didn't want to do any renovation until a year later to save up on reno budget. However, the kitchen cabinets was quite in a bad shape as the flat was left empty for more than 4 months. So was thinking of engaging contractors for the reno works. My wife and I were referred to DC Carpentry by my sister who engaged the renovation film for renovation work. Eventually, we met up with Peter Chan, the manager/designer on 23 Sep 2014 to discuss about the renovation quotation. Our initial impression of Peter Chan was quite pleasant as he managed to guide us through the renovation discussion. We thought we have found the right person to engage for our renovation. However, this was exactly the opposite. About one week after our first discussion (1 Oct 2014), we approached Peter Chan via whatsapp to check if our quotation was ready. He did not reply, neither did he call us back. When my wife tried to call him, he answered the call in a positive tone at the beginning. But once he realized we were asking him for the quotation, he immediately told my wife he was very busy and then hung up the call before we could speak further. After which, we received a whatsapp message from him, asking us not to call him. From then on, there was no more messages from him, even until now. My sister who engaged him for renovation work a month ago, did tried to speak to him several times regarding our quotation follow up. But again, no follow up from Peter Chan, not even a courtesy call or message. It seems like he has no intention to liaise with us at all. Probably he has been very busy but I feel that he could have let us know, or sent someone else to follow up with us if he was really that busy. But instead, he chose to ignore us. There was not even a single message from him at all. Anyway I do not feel that he is really that busy because I saw him sharing some random news feed on the DC Carpentry FB wall that has nothing much to do with his renovation work. I tried to post on the DC Carpentry FB wall more than a week ago, asking them about my quotation follow up, hoping that they will reply. Again, no reply from him of anyone else. Instead, my post was removed by them. When I attempted to post the same enquiry on their wall the 2nd time, my post was removed again and this time, I was BLOCKED from posting on their FB wall. I realized only positive comments are found on their FB wall. The negative ones were removed. And I am not the only one experiencing this issue, which I found it really dishonest and deceiving. Anyway, I am posting this just to share my negative experience with people who might be thinking of engaging DC Carpentry for renovation work. Thankfully that I did not engage them. You might wish to think twice before engaging a renovation film because if the pre-sales service is bad, your renovation could end up as bad.

Just to share my experience. I've just moved into my newly renovated (resale) flat 3 months ago. The ID I engaged is very responsible & knowledgeable on the renovation details. As we've no idea on the theme we wanted, he provided us the ideas & recommendation that make our house very cozy & nice-looking, and meet our preference & requirement. He's also able to point out the concerns & provide better alternatives for some of our ideas which we thought it's better. At the end of the renovation, it's proven that his ideas are much better than our original thinking. Glad that we chose to listen to his advices. And, because of false promise from the flat seller (promised early move out for us to start renovation earlier), we ran short of time for the renovation. Also, we've made last-minute decision on the scale of the renovation (at first worried about budget but finally decided to do everything at one go). All these problems were resolved by my ID & we managed to move in according to our original scheduled time. Best of all, quality of the renovation is not compromised. And even now, 3 months after renovation completed & moved in, my ID is still very helpful whenever I met some minor problems & solve the problems free of charge. hi i have seen afew of my friends home and my own home. on mistakes that renovators have made. really piss people off. i m listing it down on things i encounter and my friends exp. do share you exp also. too many fake ID posers and fake contractor out there with zero exp and knowledge . Really damage the reputation of the contractors or interior designer image. and still dare to call them self professional. LIST of mistakes 1. water basin right below the live power point ( really no brain. so the house gona trip everyday or my friend is gona die one day) 2. drawer edge friction on the gas rubber tube (this is really trying to kill me. really wish my ID have a brain) hope there is a safety course that all designer need to go for. like DO NOT put sharp EDGES NEAR GAS RUBBER TUBE. 3.false ceiling install but forgot to get the wiring done . heard from friend 4. 3D drawing wait for 3 weeks still not done. home renovation almost complete. still not done. tons of excuses 5. any how charge . existing also charge. didn't provide anyhow put something there to charge. example cove light didn't do charge but $900 for it. even charge $150 for each internet point. i even had to point out hdb already provided it. no reason to charge me since you didn't even do it . 6. keep asking me to proceed with loan drag everything when close to date of renovation. know that is in the rush to move in. any how pattern all come out. expecting that i got no choice liao. even threaten me at last me if i don't follow his way my house moving will be delay. he can do what he prefer or like. super irresponsible. i had to change a designer. can't believe how many homeowner he have cheated. who would want their neck be choke by ID while doing renovation. 7.Keep planning will have and should have and didn't bother about what the home owner wants. heard from one of my neighbours. keep saying do study room here do this here. do here there.. homeowner didn't even request for study room. 8. some renovators have very bad mouth. my friend refer me to use your service. you keep saying bad things about my friend to me. really bro? very disappointed with my current house. sad... to my friend that recommend me this .. really curse you bro. in the end i found out he refer just to earn money.

Hi all, I just received my keys to my 5room bto premium flat. I haven't found an ID or contractor that i like. Most ID quoted me 40k which exceeded my budget (30 -35k include overlay of 2 bathrooms) and some told me that they are unable to complete before chinese new year. Can anyone intro their contractor or ID that is able to finish before cny and with good workmanship? Thanks in advance.

I informed this contractor to regard to my requests and ideas for my new flat. But I am not sure whether this quotation is acceptable? Or is it detailed enough? It for my 4bto new flat, I hesitant when I can sign now because key collection will be after March. Pls advice

Hi all, would like to recommend a contractor which recently renovated my 4 room flat at Punggol. We went around sourcing for a good contractor at North area until we chance upon this at Hougang Ave 1.. Boss was patient and totally understand our concept of what we want and what we need. I would say his price is reasonable and he make sure everything was done neatly with no loose ends. Best thing is the company is Non GST registered which help me to save total of $1000++++... Heard they been incorporated for almost 30 years? He is a very easy going person and accomodating to my needs as far as he could for our house renovation.. can pm for his contact if u want to get a quotation frm him..
