  1. Please do not use localInn interior design. Especially the ID Kenny . We choose them as given a quote that matches our budget. About 60 k for the whole HDB 5 room. During his site visit he mentioned the old ceiling can be reused. Half way thru Reno he texted us saying the ceiling cannot be saved and that cost us another 5 K . During choosing of tile he didn’t openly communicate that workmanship involved will cost another few 1000 . The addictional cost was more than 10 k which we could have gotten higher reno loan. The job competed is half way and after we paid our 95 % payment he started to ignore our text msg of touching up. I mentioned I do not want a two way swinging door at the kitchen as the wind from kitchen window is strong and it will cause injuries to anyone standing near the door. Literally smack to the face. He kept delaying the request and accident until it happened when my kids visited the new house. Again no apologies. Anyway I shouted at him and things was done. We communicated to the management and they are not very apologetic either towards the whole matter. Makes me wonder if this is the way how they deal with all customer. Overall very disappointing experience and in future I won’t engage any ID. Aint supposed to take away our stress of Reno? Unfortunately this is not the case. I do have many other items to show that they are quite brainless in the design pics below. Pic A fridge beside oven? Fail design! pic B He ask us to get a switch for the light and it not in use . Why’d I we need to pay so much and still need to get the switch ? pic c super loud buzzing sound when switch on ? Why no answer from him too. pic d see the unevenness on the wall he blame it on HDB workmanship!? Maybe expert here can share ur thoughts. After paying so much? He build the light to make it more obvious. It’s a joke right? Pic E and F he had no prior contact to any door supply or window supply we waited for his contact till the end of Reno and so we had to find ours . The thing is the painter already far gone to touch up the paint… How can a ID company comes with no contact ? Weird right? Pic G well u can see I cannot build a curtain rod up from the ceiling cos he build a light wire case there . This happens after we told him in the early stage that we will install curtains! the rest is history … move forward I guess
  2. Hi . Anyone used IDISID before ? can kindly share if u have any bad experience ? example : delays . Excuses . Sickness etc ...

  5. Dear homeowners and IDs, be careful not to hire or work with this company Platinum Builders & Consultancy. They have engaged our services for various jobs (countertops), paid the deposit but did not pay up the balance of $3,000 until now (July and August invoices). Our staff went down to their office and they are no longer there. We heard from the main contractor that quite a few parties also went down to their office but not able to recover their debts. They were located at Kaki Bukit previously, but recently saw on Google that they have moved to Whampoa.

  7. Since i recently bought my new place, i took this chance to upgrade my house starting with a smart lock. I wanted keyless access as i'm super forgetful and always lose my keys. I came across this gold mine while hunting for cheap smart locks, the igloohome mortise (PS. its a Singaporean brand). Here's my honest review of it. Pros: 1) It has a total of 4 modes of access - Bluetooth keys, access PIN, and RFID tags and stickers. (Most smart locks have this too but i was impressed that i got so many features for such a cheap price) 2) Product works offline, which is perfect for my home, since we live in a cluster terrace and our main door is at basement level, meaning it doesn't get any Wifi connection. So any smart lock that requires wifi connection wouldn't work for me. Since it works offline, is that there is greater security, it is less prone to getting hacked over the internet. 3) I can check whenever my kids come home (Bluetooth key). I always worry if kids get home on time from primary school, but now i can check if they've reached home as the app sends notifications when they enter. That's a life changer for kan chong Singaporean parents like us. 4) One time pin. Comes in handy when someone needs to enter the house but no one's at home. I have a cleaning lady that comes every week to tidy my place. I'm able to create a one time pin for her which works for a specified period. 5) CHEAPER than most global brands like epic, Samsung and Yale and quality and reliability is not compromised. Cons 1) unable to connect to smart hubs or smart speakers like amazon echo, so you cant tell Alexa or the google assistant to lock or unlock the doors for you. 2) The app will not send notifications if someone enters via access pin, since it is not WiFi enabled. Only if your guest uses the Bluetooth key, you will be notified. If you want to check your access logs for the PINs you'll have to “update” your master phone by using the Bluetooth key on the lock. (not really an issue for me since my kids use Bluetooth keys) 3) Guest have to download the igloohome application if they want to use the Bluetooth key access feature. (may be a hassle) Final thoughts Overall, you're still definitely getting a good product for your money, for the features you're getting. I am a strong advocate for this product as it definitely improved the quality of life for me and my family and i highly recommend it to all homeowners, especially if you want less worries in your home life.

  9. Hi all, Just here to briefly share my pleasant experience with my ID. I had compared several ID firms previously but ended up choosing this ID which I do not regret! I stumbled upon this ID firm when I was making my rounds around several buildings with all the ID firms while looking around the showrooms. (BTW good to get a few quotations from several firms before deciding!!) I was pretty skeptical as the design firm looked small scale but approached them anyways, as i wanted more options. I ended up choosing this ID as I felt that designer was sincere and there was chemistry . Other ID kept hard selling and just wen through their usual sales pitch with a general quotation... My ID had no qualms about asking what are my requirements and slowly went through all the areas with us then drafting up a customized quotation. It was also good that our designer was understanding and helped to alter the designs according to fengshui I had requested haha. We kept bothering her with questions and changes (oops) but she was patient and provided opinions and made changes accordingly. Final result of the house was great! Worth it although it wasn't the cheapest quotation but it matched market rate so it was acceptable. But maybe its due to a lot of inbuilt and carpentry that I wanted to get done hahaha.
  10. Hello everyone, i want to share with you all my recent renovation with this interior designer. I had my kitchen re-renovated from a re-sale apartment and very satisfy with the end result. The re-sale apartment i bought has many damages to it and i had no idea where to begin. I consulted many ids and what made me nailed down to this id herself is that she was very specific with her descriptions and explanations. I have gotten many ideas from her for industrial theme. But one problem was i live far from this company and have little time to go down for consultation as i have kids to take care of. But the id was willing to come down to my convenient despite she have many other things to handle and even brought me to one of her showrooms. She even brought the real life samples down after she sent me a few in picture form thorugh whasapp. That was when i made up my mind as i feel that she has the overall package. Although she only told me she started ID not long ago but can see she's very meticulous and her boss is there to back her up. Moving on to the renovation process after i closed the deal with her. Oh and her company's quotation are reasonable thats why i dont dare ask for much discount. But of course don't expect it to be cheap too because the worksmanship is really on par with other company's. So here are the few pictures she updated me with during the renovation from day 1. I don't want to post too many but if you would like more feel free to pm me :). I'm more than willing to share them with anyone. All these were done in less than 3 weeks. I'm moving in soon too. On a sidenote, as i was on a budget thats why you can see i did not want to do the base for my cabinets, fridge and washing machine. They did strongly advice me on some things to do or not but i'm very picky. Overall they are very knowledgable.

  15. Hi guys, I would actually like to share my experience with a contractor/id, give them a little shoutout in return as they really managed to give me the full package and i'm so so thankful. They are recommended by my friend. My house is a 4-room flat and have not changed for almost 20 years and kitchen has worn and torn. So I'm getting my whole kitchen and whole house painting done and on quite a tight budget as i can't take up loans and also on a tight timeline. Though my house is still undergoing renovation, but i can say the process up till now is very satisfying. My budget was $10,000+-. At first the quotation they gave me was nearly $12,000 but after i went down for further discussion and taking my budget into consideration, they were very understanding and considerate so the end quote is $10,020++. Their consultant especially is very friendly. I texted her almost everyday asking questions and even called her . I thought she would find me annoying. She was also the one who sent me pdf copies of all the quotation even after i keep changing my mind. Usually other people would ignore me or reply late and send their quotes through text. But she very was sincere. After that when i went down for further consulltations they even guided me in choosing materials and designs to best fit my requirements and budget. I can see they treat all their clients with care like a priority which is shocking as nowadays i've heard from my family friends encountering rude ids or people who just ignore you once they see the budget. Very pekcek when it happened to me. During renovation all i can say is their manpower 10/10. I know they have quite a few other clients to renovate for but despite all of it, the manpower are still positive plus i have to get all these done within 2-3 weeks. Whenever i have questions regarding certain works, they explained to me nicely. I know I know i'm kindof annoying when i'm unsure hahahaha... So overall for now im very satisfied with whats going on in my kitchen. Can't wait for it to be done then i'll post up the pictures and do a final review But for now heres the final quote they sent me! Do pm me if you want their contact! Oh and also surprisingly they have no hidden fees. So if any of you are on a tight budget i really recommend you them. Just explain your situation and i'm sure they'll understand. 1. 17. Hi guys, I have read quite abit about movers in Singapore on this forum. However, most of the posts are pretty outdated. My line of work really require a few good movers to recommend to my clients. I have had pleasant experiences as well as horrible experiences. I will do my due diligence. Thank you very very much in advance. For now can we start with Vimbox Movers? I have seen quite abit of this companys review here BUT they are pretty outdated and the most recent one was a pleasant experience. And they are listed as Top 5 Best Movers in Singapore, which is confusing. Also I have contacted the participants of the topic about "Vimbox Movers Review" that I have seen previously and i sincerely hope they participate in this forum. Please check your inboxes I look forward to all input. Thank you. Plus I need to shift a few furnitures too so I may as well use one of the recommendations.

  22. Midea Air-con Review: Terrible Quality, High Repair Cost.Dear all, If you are looking for new Air-con, my suggestion is DO NOT choose Midea. I have purchased one Midea air-con (system 4) 2+ years ago from All Best. The outdoor unit breakdown at least 6 times within 2014, the same parts spoiled again and again. (total 6 Valve spoiled, 4 Valve have been repaired or replaced and 2 outdoor unit has been replaced). But the problem seems never been fixed. Unfortunately, the same problem happen again last week with my unit and I have to pay S$260 just for replace the Valve, because it already out of warranty. (After I complain to their customer support, they wave S$60 transport fee for me.) Now, I decide to buy a new air-con if the existing one spoil again. The unit is totally beyond repair. Maybe Media have the rights to not responsible for their product after warranty period even it is a totally faulty product. But I don't think it is worth to pay S$3000+ for just 2+ years life span Air-con. If anybody want to see the prove, please email me pingzimumu@gmail.com, I will show you all my service form. 3rd season 2013: One Valve Failure 2nd season 2014: Three Valve Failure 2nd season 2014: Replace the whole outdoor unit after Valve Failure again after replacement 3rd season 2014: One Valve Failure 3rd or 4th season 2014: Replace the whole outdoor unit again after valve failure again same day after replacement 2nd season 2015: One Valve Failure again. (User have to pay)
  23. Our home came much quicker than expected, cus I was 30 out of the units available and signed in April 2013, but we just got the HLE letter and saw that the fences have already been torn down. Apparently ours is the first block and it's only been a little more than two years (Nov 2012 BTO, though!). Anyhow, we chose a 3R because (1) We balloted for PLENTY of 4Rs and just didn't have the "luck" for it, so we thought maybe that's just not God's plan for now; (2) I was just starting a business then and we didn't want to carry debt. We are super young (23yo) and debt-free, and this house is quite low maintenance for us so we are quite happy with it! No plans for children but even if we have one it can take it. Haha! So I am quite excited to get the house going but we have a great place to live right now so we're not in a hurry to move. Having lived in an area that's surrounded by renovations / construction, I know how "vomit blood" it can be to clean it everyday. And I've heard stories from other RenoTalkers. But somehow, the people in my estate don't believe how hard it is to clean! Haha! We went down to see our block since it was unfenced (but stairs still sealed up, only got to go up to the carpark) and generally was happy with what I saw. Love the colors and placement of things, and love the way everything was built. Should be a happy 5 years (or more)! Starting with our floor plan: We are meeting 3 contractors next week, and probably a 1 - 2 more in the next few weeks. Met with an ID but I have such a clear vision of how I want everything to look in my head (I am a designer, albeit not interior designer, by trade) and the IDs really disappointed me and bombed us with ridiculous amounts like $44k even though I didn't need that much. London is my second home and holds a super important place in my heart. I've collected various London trinkets from our honeymoon and our longish trip this year, so I hope to bring a piece of it here. So many IDs keep interpreting it as "victorian" which isn't what I want, so hopefully the contractors can help me out! And this is also why our home will be "Little London" -- like Little India or Chinatown. Haha! Will update as time passes and link everything to a content post in the next post! Hope I can help fellow 3Roomers as we're SO hard to find but I personally love 3 Room transformations!
  24. I used Hometown Moving Services on my 7th time of moving house, and I now regret that I didn’t use another mover just because of a mere $100 difference. I chanced upon icompare.sg, a website that promises to offer multiple quotations for 1 enquiry. I signed up and asked it to recommend a moving company. Strangely, it only recommended me one, and that was Hometown Moving Services. When I requested for more through the website, I didn't receive any more replies or recommendations. It was only later that I learnt from the mover boss, Jeffrey, that he is on very good terms with the staff in the referral company, sigh. I went ahead with Hometown Moving Services since it was recommended and the price was right. Jeffrey assured me that they are an established company since 1984 with a Facebook page. I went into their Facebook page and thought I hired a cheap & reliable company after reading it. The moving plus miscellaneous charges (excluding deposit for boxes) would work out to be $900 for up to three 14 footer containers. That is where my nightmare started. On 8th January, the Hometown movers came late by over one and half hour, attributing it to a CBD jam. Unluckily for me, it rained heavily in the afternoon. As mine is a condo, moving has to be finished by 5pm. My husband pleaded with the condo management to extend till 6.30pm for us. Hometown managed to move two containers of stuff to my new house. When I came back from work to my new house, I was horrified to see my coffee table and two of my cabinets scratched. These were bought and moved into the original house two years ago at a cost of close to $5000. When they were relocated by Hometown’s movers, they acquired long scratches at the sides and front which were very obvious. These didn’t look like accidental bumps; it was more like the furniture had been roughly dragged across a surface. It really made my heart ache as these are my prized pieces that I took a long time to hunt for. Naturally I started complaining and making noise while the movers were still fitting the furniture; because it wasn’t just one piece, three of my precious wooden furniture got scratched. I unwittingly uttered a word ‘stupid’ in a fit of anger. Suddenly, one worker confronted me and yelled at me “why you call me stupid?”. I was in shock, I never expected a worker to shout in my face, when the word wasn’t directed to anyone in particular (I was just expressing my dismay at the unfortunate situation). My usual way of letting out frustration is uttering words like s-h-i-t, stupid, seow, faint ah, goondoo etc. I believe most of us have this habit. But he insisted I called him stupid, he turned very aggressive and kept scolding me, in the end, we ended up quarrelling. He also accused me of calling him ‘bastard’ when I actually said ‘basket’ (another reflexive swear word). He stormed off and told his supervisor. His supervisor wasn’t any nicer, he told me I should say sorry; he even rudely asked how a mother could behave in this way in front of her children, telling me he was a father and he would not show such example. Well, this time round, I did ‘apologise’, but in an angry manner because I can’t believe that I was being featured as someone bad in front of my child. I just wanted to end the episode of senseless squabbling … I shouted ‘sorry’ a few times back to the worker with my hand waving out to him. Suddenly the supervisor shook his fists several times right in front of my face, and shouted at me, “Is this the way you say sorry?”. My god, I shook my hand at a distance at the worker, he shook his fists right in my face, almost hitting me and yelling at me at the same time. I was very angry, my furniture had been damaged and the workers were close to physically assaulting me. I called up the boss, Jeffrey, and said I was not paying till Hometown finished moved the third container on the next day. I was worried they would mess up my things or cause further damage as we were now in conflict with each other. Jeffrey promised he would get his carpenter to restore the furniture. I seriously doubted that they can look as good again, but is there any choice? Jeffrey said the workers were hired on a daily rate, so they need to be paid on the spot after moving. He promised me he would give me a new team the next day, thus I paid. I was told to pay cash to the workers, but I was not told earlier by Jeffrey so I had to make a trip to the ATM to withdraw cash. That has never happened in any of my previous moving, where I had just issued cheques. Despite the damages caused by Hometown and the conflict that had just transpired, I paid as I would not short-change the other workers due to the bad attitudes of the two that quarrelled with me. I began to suspect that Hometown uses ad-hoc workers that are inexperienced in moving, as I have never suffered so badly damaged furniture before in my previous seven times of moving house. On the next day, Hometown Moving Services caused another horrifying experience. This time, the new parquet flooring in my children’s room was badly scratched in a few areas, one of my fan’s blades was broken, my storeroom shelving was left outside my house, and my small cabinet was missing. The Hometown movers did not heed my maid’s instructions to move the boxes to the right places. In fact, they put some in wrong places and we have to carry and move the heavy boxes to the right rooms. Out of plain laziness, they didn’t dismantle the two metal shelves in the rental house; they just carried and moved them to my new house and then said one could not fit into the storeroom, so they put one shelf inside the store and left one in my corridor. That night, my hubby and I had to dismantle it and then reassemble it inside the storeroom. It took us a whole morning as we are not apt in handling such work. I called up Jeffrey and asked why he given me the same team, he told me the other team cannot find available time to move house. He complained one of his men got badly hurt while moving my bunk bed. Gosh, it is as if my furniture is to be blamed for hurting his worker! If I have been informed earlier that day about having the same team, I would have taken a day’s leave and make sure everything is done satisfactorily. Jeffrey was aware of my concern about having the same team, but he still put in the same team without my knowledge. When I complained about Hometown damaging my new parquet, he promised he would get his carpenter to fix my flooring and damaged furniture at one go. Today is 24 January, it has been 16 days since we moved. Jeffrey has scheduled two appointments for his carpenter to come to my house; for these two times, I took leave because I really wanted to see my precious furniture properly restored and for two times the carpenter didn’t come and Jeffrey failed to inform me. When I sent an angry SMS, he messaged my husband that I threatened him. I admit, I threatened to post a negative review in his company’s Facebook and complain to the referrer (icompare.sg). Unsurprisingly, Hometown Moving Services’ Facebook page has disappeared completely; that is why I decide to post in forums to warn people of this terrible company. Jeffrey kept saying he is responsible, or else he wouldn’t complete moving my house on the second day. Gosh, I didn’t know I need to be grateful that a mover move the rest of my furniture on the next day if they cannot complete moving in one day due to the rain. It is their responsibility to finish a paid job regardless of unforeseen circumstances! When I told him the moving issues in my house, Jeffrey lamented about Hometown’s problems. If he thinks he is not making money moving my house, then don’t take up the job. Jeffrey said he can’t give a definite date for the carpenter because ‘it is a favour’ and it is not included in the moving package. Now he makes it seem that I need to patiently wait for him to get a favour to restore the furniture that HIS movers damaged, so again I should be grateful ... even though the carpenter has never come as promised. Jeffrey said the damages are accidents unavoidable in moving. In my seven times of moving, nothing of this sort has happened before. Only once has my children’s bunk bed not been fitted properly, and even so, the moving company responsibly sent someone to rectify that promptly. If it is damage on one piece of furniture, I could just dismiss it as an accident, but it happened on TWO long cabinets AND my coffee table. There must be something terribly wrong with their moving technique. My master and third bedroom’s parquet were not scratched with the first day moving, but why on the second day, my second room’s parquet had suffered so many scratches caused by the SAME team after the squabbling incident. Jeffrey kept saying his movers are experienced, but experienced movers would not drag my heavy massage chair to test if it was working. I mentioned I wanted to discard the massage chair, so they could have tested it out to see if it could be salvaged for themselves. That is okay but the way they dragged the chair to the power point left two long lines across the marble flooring of the living room in the rental house. Headache! I requested time and again on the moving day that they discard three big items in the rental house but Hometown did not want to do so as they said they were short of time. In the end, I have to pay much more to get another moving company to remove them 2 days later. My advice, NEVER get a mover simply because it is cheap. And avoid icompare.sg if you need recommendations. Check if the moving company has insurance. Jeffrey told me it was not necessary to keep cost competitive but I learnt my lesson painfully. My furniture, fan and new flooring got damaged, I had fists flying literally centimetres from my face for the first time of my life and I was accused of threatening when I got angry that he never keeps his promises. Has he realised who is the one being victimised and threatened from the beginning? Where is the customer’s rights? You won’t find it in Hometown Moving Services. Jeffrey hinted that I should have a heart for the underprivileged and he says ‘who wants to be movers’. I do charities, but on occasions deemed appropriate. When I move house, I want professionals; sorry to say, but I can’t afford hiccups and I can’t deal with ‘rough ‘people when things happen. I shiver at the thought of being aggressively confronted by two male workers in my own house. I thought local movers are better, and I have always supported local workers; I was wrong, they are not necessarily better as some lack the right attitude. If only I knew that Jeffrey is a smooth talker, an ‘armchair boss’ employing underqualified movers that cannot handle my furniture properly. He twists everything I say to make it sound as if I, the victim, is in the wrong. Here is our SMS conversations and photos of my furniture, you can be the judge. http://postimg.org/gallery/27pcogsas/
  25. My wife and I were referred to DC Carpentry by my sister who engaged the renovation film for renovation work. Eventually, we met up with Peter Chan, the manager/designer on 23 Sep 2014 to discuss about the renovation quotation. Our initial impression of Peter Chan was quite pleasant as he managed to guide us through the renovation discussion. We thought we have found the right person to engage for our renovation. However, this was exactly the opposite. About one week after our first discussion (1 Oct 2014), we approached Peter Chan via whatsapp to check if our quotation was ready. He did not reply, neither did he call us back. When my wife tried to call him, he answered the call in a positive tone at the beginning. But once he realized we were asking him for the quotation, he immediately told my wife he was very busy and then hung up the call before we could speak further. After which, we received a whatsapp message from him, asking us not to call him. From then on, there was no more messages from him, even until now. My sister who engaged him for renovation work a month ago, did tried to speak to him several times regarding our quotation follow up. But again, no follow up from Peter Chan, not even a courtesy call or message. It seems like he has no intention to liaise with us at all. Probably he has been very busy but I feel that he could have let us know, or sent someone else to follow up with us if he was really that busy. But instead, he chose to ignore us. There was not even a single message from him at all. Anyway I do not feel that he is really that busy because I saw him sharing some random news feed on the DC Carpentry FB wall that has nothing much to do with his renovation work. I tried to post on the DC Carpentry FB wall more than a week ago, asking them about my quotation follow up, hoping that they will reply. Again, no reply from him of anyone else. Instead, my post was removed by them. When I attempted to post the same enquiry on their wall the 2nd time, my post was removed again and this time, I was BLOCKED from posting on their FB wall. I realized only positive comments are found on their FB wall. The negative ones were removed. And I am not the only one experiencing this issue, which I found it really dishonest and deceiving. Anyway, I am posting this just to share my negative experience with people who might be thinking of engaging DC Carpentry for renovation work. Thankfully that I did not engage them. You might wish to think twice before engaging a renovation film because if the pre-sales service is bad, your renovation could end up as bad.
