  4. Hi, guess this may be a shot in the dark but I'll try anyway... Anybody knows where I can purchase the Sayerlack Linea Blu Wax Effect waterbased stain in Singapore? Basically it's a type of "paint" used to stain wooden decking. I'm looking for some to touch-up the outlook of my balcony decking. The rear of the can looks like this: This is the exact "model", color code is HI2213 (dark walnut), used to varnish my decking by the installers. Hence I was hoping to buy back the same series to touch up the decking by myself.

  9. Hi everyone, long time lurker here deciding to give this T-blog a try in hopes that it will help time pass faster so that I can collect my keys sooner! I think I started lurking in this forum at least 1-2 years ago, reading up on people's t-blog and picking up advice here and there. I hope to get my keys in July as HDB updated that PCD is end July 14, so July please come soon! This is my floorplan. As you can see, a pretty normal 5 room layout, except that the main door faces the kitchen, which I haven't seen elsewhere before. Apparently not common? Not sure. Anyway I started researching on IDs back in the August last year because I was hoping to get keys earlier this year. But my development progress is slow. Some of the IDs I met were: 1. That ***** - Was really impressed by a fellow renotalker who used this ID, so I contacted them for a meetup. Back then I was gearing more towards the industrial look so I was really looking forward to receive their quote. In the end, they didn't get back to me. Not sure if it was because my key collection date was super far away. 2. Random IDs through the renotalk request for quote thingy which I immediately ruled out upon meeting them because they mainly did those modern contemporary style which I didn't like at all and also because of language barrier. 3. Mr Foo from Custombox - Also another ID that I was really impressed with so arranged to meet him at his place (also Mschocobanana's place). Hit it right off the bat in the first meeting so I was really keen, plus he is bilingual so I didn't have to struggle to understand him. Sent me the quote right on time as well and I found his quote reasonable. So signed with Mr Foo! Although back then I also heard of Mr K and Alan contractor, I didn't meet up with them, which on hindsight I think is a good thing because I don't think I would have the time to really check on the work and plus the recent mixed reviews. When I first started out thinking about the kind of design for my house, I was thinking of a mix of industrial and Scandinavian with more focus on industrial. However, over the past few months, I am leaning more towards Scandinavian instead now, with a touch of industrial. Hence the title of this T-blog, Our Scandinavian Home.

  14. Hi guys! Decided to note down my reno journey here. My flat is a 4 room new flat at Punggol Spectra (we balloted for Sale of Balanced Flats) neighbors have already moved in since 2013. Gotten our keys on 21 Jul reno is in progress...... Our reno ID is: JASON FROM COSY LIVING (9366 1558) I will ignore all qns abt my ID contact from this post onwards. Actually a couple of forumers here also have their house done by Jason. Thanks to guojiawen's T-blog that I came to know about Jason. Jason's quote is very competitive (and reasonable) hence it's also part of our reason to choose this ID. We did go thru a couple of IDs and we went with our gut to choose this ID because we felt comfortable with Jason. So far... Jason is very detailed in his way of doing things he cares to explain theories and what not. Very responsive in Whatsapp and calls. Our theme is like a bit of cosy country (wife loves wood) + industrial (husband likes it the black pipes- if you know what I mean). Our budget is around 30k plus minus will only reveal quote after everything is finished (but it's around 30k-ish) We did not do anything to our common bedrooms except for the floors + installation of ceiling light + fan. Our house did not come with floors done by HDB we have decided to go with vinyl for the whole house and tiles for foyer area and balcony. Our floor plan: A highlight of our house will be that we have a tiny balcony (AKA smoking area) at our MBR. Very ideal for smokers. Ha-ha-ha. Our 3D designs: As you can see from this pic, for our MBR the whole wall will be our wardrobe area + TV console. If you can gauge from our floor plan you will know that for the left side of our kitchen where the sink + hob + fridge is at it's a very squeezy area. and between sink and hob is only a ipad air space and for our fridge it's only a small 600mm fridge. Will talk about my applicances + furniture purchases later on. For the right side, it' will be the preparation area. Very open and empty! The pictures are just a draft as we have not choose our laminates yet but the feel is there. As for the TV area, the feature wall is a full brick wall too same as my bomb shelter wall that you see. So it's 2 brick walls for me. Progess: Today the walls will be hacked to achieve my open kitchen concept. Tiles for foyer area and balcony area is already up.

  21. Hi guys! A and I have been reading up alot of renotalk during the past few months as we are finally settling down and starting our renovation journey. We purchased a 5 room resale flat and got our keys back in January 2015. Like many couples, we started to source for good Interior Designers or contractors (Mr. K) that have been recommended by people on forums. I believe we met about 8-10 firms and have about 15 quotations from different companies and individuals. The highly recommended ones and big names interior designers seem to be either 1. too expensiveor 2. too busy... Some interior designers which were quite "bo chup" and for which we have to chase for the quotation were dropped immediately. We started to branch out and get different quotations from reno websites. On the other hand, the unheard ones can be quite enthusiastic and at the lower range. However, we did not want to compromise on the quality of materials by going for the cheapest quotations. After months of deliberating, we have finally settled on a small interior design firm. Why did we choose this company? Indeed it is a leap of faith because we could not find any reviews on this company on the internet ! 1. their sincerity (P & B) in assuring us that they want to do a good job 2. quote is reasonable to us comparing to other interior designers and contractors (yes definitely more expensive than contractors.. at least $5k maybe? But I guess we are paying extra for the project management service..) 3. comfortable factor / does not mind spending hours with us thrashing out the details and revising the quotation multiple times 3. our quotation is 8 pages long haha! details are important! (Most contractors only gave us a 2 pager quotation) 4. some freebies... On hindsight... - ensure that you are comfortable with the payment terms (check what is the "market rate") This is our floor plan : Some inspirations: What the hubby wants:
  22. Being a silent reader (on and off) since 2011, when we first applied for our BTO, I guess it's time for me to make some worthy (I hope) contributions to this community! Having heard of how difficult it was for couples to apply for a BTO flat, we are indeed thankful to be able to secure a mid-level unit on our first try, given that our queue number has exceeded the total no. of units! Well, maybe I should thank those people who applied, but given up their chance. Fast forward to 4 years later in 2015, we finally collected the keys to our first nest in Jan' 2015. We didn't carry out rituals like rolling pineapple, sprinkling of salt in 4 corners or screaming "Huat ah, Huat ah" etc.. Instead, we were snapping away! Having seen my sister's BTO flat, I wasn't expecting much, but it came as a pleasant surprise that it's slightly bigger than what I expected! Hehe! Starting off with a mandatory picture, the Floor plan! In my opinion, it's a rather standard one in these days BTO. Upon entering, this is the view that greeted us.. Living Room. It's pretty Long-ish & square-rish. Up next is the Corridor, leading up to the bedrooms & bomb shelter (double up as storeroom). Okay, that's another standard thing. Realized that I do not have any pictures of the rooms. Actually all of these pictures are taken by the husband, and he said something like, there isn't a need to take as all the rooms looks the same! Hahah! We forgotten about the kitchen too! But I managed to find a saved pic of the kitchen in my gallery. I think it was my neighbour's, which I chanced upon in my project's facebook group. So, the credit of this picture is to him/ her! Being someone who enjoys cooking & baking, this kitchen came as a big disappointment! It's so tiny!! I think this would be a nightmare to people coming from my mums generation, their kitchen is easily 3x of this size? After looking around, we proceed to spend the next hour or so checking defects, but we were quite tired out by the bending up and down in such a warm weather.. All we wanted was a chilling can of drink! So we decided to call it a day, we shall come back another day to continue with the defect checking! Hiak Hiak Hiak!
