  1. After 12years, we decided to sell our current home and bought a 5A resale flat. After viewing for at least 5houses, we’ve settled for this house which is nearer to MRT but condition was seriously horrible. (By the way, we are diy buyer doing contra) Long story short, after receiving about 10quotations, we knew we had to go for a contractor, it can save us 10-20k! Theme: “my style” — I see, I like, I buy My second home should be something simple. I have always wanted the white look (for current house) but with 2babies of couse it’s impossible. So now that they’re in primary schooler, I will try to archieve that look. Ok, I’ll try.... but er, definitely no white kitchen as I cook everyday.
  2. I have been a follower of this wonderful forum for a long time, a quick check on my profile shows that I am a member since 2004! That was when I am renovating the current place that I am staying. Time flies and it has been 10 years, and it’s time for a mid-life upgrade. There are several challenges, thus I named the blog “Hopefully” as I am not sure if I will succeed. I will be hiring a contractor, thus I will be the “designer”. Challenges: Budget. After long discussion with CFO, the budget was set at $20k. With an upgrade to a system 4 air-con a cardinal requirement, effective balance is only 16k. Coordination. As we will be staying in for the renovation, extra effort will be required for the coordination to minimize disruption and stress to the residents (wife, 3 schooling kids, helper) Theme. After browsing through the tons of information in the t-blogs, I must say that I like the “Scandinavian” look. The challenge for me is how I can achieve this without making major changes to existing infra and within budget.Scope of Work L-Box & Plastering for 3 bedrooms Vanishing of Parquet for 3 Bedrooms Glass Partition to create new study room Laminate floor for Study Sliding door for Balcony Lay wood decking for Balcony (6m x 1.5m) Brick tile for TV wall Shoe Cabinet Cabinet for Master Toilet New System 4 Aircon Retrofit Oven and additional Kitchen Cabinets New WardrobeThe following is my floor plan just to get the ball rolling. It’s a 5A unit @ 136sqm. I had made some changes to the layout during the last reno by hacking away half the store room to create a new entrance to the kitchen.
  3. Hello everyone! So excited to finally start documenting my reno journey. It hasn't always been a smooth process. We are very happy in our current place in Punggol but with 2 kids and a temporary live-in helper, we need a bigger space. Kinda regret hacking the common to join with master bedroom in current place as we only have 2 bedrooms now. Kitchen is not very big but has served me well. Living room is large and roomy with no awkward spaces. Overall, very happy with the house and Punggol the neighborhood. But my parents and in-laws are staying in the East so decided to move so we could have a bigger space and be nearer to them. We picked a 5A unit in Tampines as the pricing is much lower than EM (our first choice) or EA, yet the floor area is similar to EA in Punggol. Too big also I will have problems cleaning it alone. Seller was asking for very high COV initially but hubby fell in love with it so we made a few counter-offers which is a poor negotiation strategy but managed to close at half the asking COV. Just collected the keys last Friday after my selling's first appointment as the sellers already have somewhere to stay so allow us to come in early to start reno. Hopefully all smooth from here on and will check in often to post progress updates and seek advice from fellow renotalkers! Below is my floor plan. Yes big floor area = big renovation cost as we are overhauling the 18-years old house to build a home for my husband, me and 2 little girls as well as my 2 ragamuffin cats!
