  1. Hi, I need some advice. I have been quoted Sgd380 for acid/ chemical wash of 3 bathrooms in my 2-room condo. This was before we found out that the master bathroom is primarily made of marble (so the floor and walls are marble). Because of that, acid & chemical wash cannot be done. When I asked for the price to be reduced, my ID said that it will be reduced by Sgd80 and the master bathroom will be unwashed. Does the price makes sense because the master bathroom is actually the largest bathroom but Im giving him the benefit of the doubt that there's actually a "fixed" cost to the cleaning so the price cannot be reduced exponentially. Also, would anyone have an idea of how much to supply and lay a data point and SV point? I heard this is charged separately. Appreciate your advice here. Thanks.
  2. Hi Everyone!!! I want to apply for renovation loan but I don't know if I am eligible. 1) Basic Salary: $2600 Gross $6k-$9k per month. 2) I just work with the current company for 9 months only. Before I join this company I worked as a freelance(no payslip). Cpf contribution only show 9 months. 3) I had checked my credit bureau report it shows GX. No outstanding loan with any banks. 4) Will the bank need 12 month payslip? 5) My gross pay for 9 months of work already reach $58k My ID quote me $40k to renovate the whole 5 room house. Anyone knows how the bank calculate or any chance bank will approved my renovation loan? Thank-you. 31/07/2020
  3. Has anyone gotten their contractor to make the shower area corner shelves out of ceramic tiles or some other stone like marble? If yes, how much did it cost?
  4. I know that the HDB guidelines state that you can only extend the bathroom by 600mm or 0.6msq, and only used as dry area. Later on, I saw a couple of floor plans that actually extended the boundary of the bathroom more than 600mm out. One person actually commented that "the HDB guideline technically means: 600mm is the distance of your wash basin's pipehole to the original bathroom boundary". Meaning to say, as long as the piping of the wash basin is within 600mm distance of the original bathroom boundary, you can build the new walls however big as you want. Can anybody confirm this? Attaching my floor plan for reference
  5. Hi, Any idea on how much cost involved if want to seal the master bathroom door and change to another direction which involved in dismantle the existing built-in wardrobe? and also build a new built-in wardrobe. Thank you.
  6. I decided to write about my "resale flat" reno (I lump under this category as flat is 16YO!) which cost us less than $10k for - 2 new bathrooms - 1 slightly remodelled kitchen, - 3 new cabinets - whole housepainting excl ceiling which was painted 4 years ago - plus miscellaneous like hacking and dismantling Hopefully, this will help homeowners on a budget save money, and I'm also hoping to do a good one for my contractors and to give credit to these good contractors, many of whom are not tech-savvy and do not know how to promote their biz! Good things must share right? ? first, to clarify, the reno is akin to that of a resale flat cos my 5-room is 15 1/2 years old. We stayed for 6 years, rented out for 9 years, then decided to move back. We have always DIY-ed our reno and this time is no exception. No doubt interior designers may give a more polished look but they charge a 33% premium, and I'd rather stretch my dollar to do more stuff! Of course, these disgusting toilets had to go first! The tenants have trashed them up so badly, they are worse than public toilets! Sorry if I spoilt your appetite for a meal! I nearly threw up when I came to inspect the premises!?
  7. Hi My bathroom sink got detached due to too much loading. Luckily there are brackets which prevented it from falling to the floor. Any recommendation on who to engage to fix this, and and idea of how much it would cost ? If I want to DIY, any suggestion on how? I found this video but I wonder how to keep the sink in place for my situation while the silicone cures. Thanks! Photo of bracket captured from below the sink :

  12. May i ask if anyone has puchased mixer, rain shower from bathroom warehouse? Hows the quality for their inhouse brand h+m? Any other brands/shops to recommend? Thanks in advance
  13. Hello guys, I have a problem with the air and sewage pipe that runs up the middle of my bathroom area. My contractor has kindly boxed it up nicely, but it looks really big and disruptive to the space (like a structural column just popped up). My question is, can it be done any better? Is there a minimum thickness for the calcium silicate boards and metal framework used to box up the area? Suggestions and solutions much appreciated. (These pipes are terminated at the top with a false ceiling that covers all the "twists and turns", so what needs to be concealed from the bottom to the top is just a straight pipe.) Thank you :) Regards from a New Homeowner

  16. Buying a resale 3i hdb flat and looking for proven solution on the net. As you all may already know, 3i hdb flat comes with two separate cubicles, 1 wc, 1 bathroom. which is only 1.68m in length, with the bathroom slightly wider than the wc cubicle by 1.5m Vs 1m. Most likely, I will be renting out the common room of the 3i flat. What i'm thinking is to seal up the bathroom door, and hack the wall connecting to the masterbedroom. Means now, the "attached" bathroom is only for bathing and a sink. Next,is to install a shower in the wc cubicle, which i know is pretty cramp. So that tenant(s) can use the 'common' toilet for their showering. My biggest concern is this. This maybe a show stopper for me to rent out, as tenants may feel the wc cubicle is now for 'wc' AND showering. Since HDB does not allow a second wc to be installed in the 'attached' bathroom, guess i have to make do with sharing the 'throne' with tenants. Does anyone has a better solution for this 3i bathroom? Or what's your take on this 3i wc/toilet issue?
  17. Hi, Just got a resale HDB flat and need minor reno. Am a reno newbie so hoping some of the old-timers here can help me out a little. Just wondering... if I need to change a kitchen sink, I understand I will also need to remove/re-tile the counter top for that area (the previous owner put the sink in the service-balcony area so it's sort of separate from the rest of the cooking/work-top areas). But do contractors do just that small amount of work? Or should I just get a plumber/tiler who can also do that + change toilet bowls + wash basin? Sorry if this sounds silly, just not sure if I should find individual vendors or get a contractor. Thank you in advance for your advice/help! cheers, WH

  21. After 20 years of living in my apartment, the kitchen and bathrooms are getting old. For examples: 1) the bathtub has a few chipped surfaces in a few areas; 2) the kitchen and bathroom wall tiles are showing some small cracks; 3) the vanity top has a few chipped surfaces and small cracks. Instead of doing the standard hacking and renovating which can get very messy and noisy as the occupants have to continue to live in the apartment, I am exploring the option of refinishing and reglazing the affected bathtub, vanity top, and wall tiles. Has anyone done this in your home before? Does the finishing quality looks good? Do the refinished/reglazed surfaces have quality issues such as peeling, cracking, bumps, etc.? Do you have any good contractors to recommend if you are pleased with the outcomes of your refinishing/reglazing work? Thanks!
  22. What to use to seal back the rubber of bathroom transparent door? Does silicone help? (Can see the picture attached?)

  24. We just bought a resale 4-room HDB. It is about 10 years. The previous owner did not do renovation for bathroom before, so everything is from HDB. The existing wall tile looks okay to me but the flooring is a bit messy due to wear and tear. Here is some photos: I was thinking to hack everything(wall and fooling) and lay new tiles. Then I found it's a bit expensive for us. (after get some quotations) Just want to ask for advice if it is okay I just overlay the floor tile. Then I can save money for hacking and laying wall tile. Of course I do not want to save money now then later end up with spending more to fix in the future.
  25. Hi guys, do you all have any contacts for wash basin and cabinet installation? I have already bought the basin and the cabinet (the type which is below the basin), so now am looking for a contact which can help me do the installation. Thanks in advance!
