How Much The Contractor (renovation House) Can Earn ?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I just recently do full renovation of my flat. It cost around 33-35k.

The reno i done is :

- hack and replace all floor and wall title,

- paint all wall and ceiling,

- replace all window and grill,

- replace all toilet bowl and basin,

- new full kitchen cabinet ( exclude cook stove)

- rewiring all elec cable and light.

Just curios, if anyone know, how much do you think the contractor can earn from 1 project like in my case 33k ?

30% of the project amount ?

If i can take the simple sample, for do extension TV point, by general market price is $90. How much you think can earn from this service ?

Thanks for any input.

I think it's about 16% to 18%

My HB used to be in the reno biz and he said that nowadays contractors don't earn as much as before due to competition, increase in material costs etc. I would think it's probably only 10% to 15% per project. Previously he could easily earn at least $10k from a $30k reno project. :jawdrop:

I'm renovating my flat now. As I compare the quotes from contractors and those from our direct sources, there are cost savings of course, but not really very significant.

I think the cost of materials have indeed gone up but maybe not as exaggerated as the inflated quotes might tell you. However, workmanship & quality of material used should be more important factors to consider. Sometimes we might just pick an ID/Contractor because we can get along well.
