Where To Buy Woods, Timber, Planks, Plywoods, Laminated Sheets

Recommended Posts

lorddraco, thanks for sharing info... we wanted to do the laminates on all 3 bedroom doors.. can buy the sheet off their shelf and ask them to cut according to the size of the doors?

Hi .. for Formica, they dont cut accordingly. I think most supplier of laminate dont. Have to cut yourself. as for the size of the doors. I will not know how you can paste the laminates on to it. Mostly likely you have to take down the door and do it one by one.

Found some companies that sell laminates while researching... hope it'll be useful.

Do share more with us (eg. on price, range, durability, service etc) if anyone happens to contact or use them. Thanks.

MDF for the main and a thick plywood for the backing ....

backing needs to be very strong

If not partition also can... but backing still plywood...

MDF after painting looks exactly like a wall...

I have a question, if i will like to DIY my own feature wall so as to wall mount my lcd tv what wood is good? Will plywood give way to the weight of the tv?

Hello! I'm new here :)

I want to ask if anyone here has heard of the Kreg Jig?

I'm thinking about building a custom shoe cabinet (I have a small awkward area about 80 inches wide that would be perfect for a gigantic shoe cabinet).

I haven't any woodwork DIY before, though I always read blogs like ana-white.com/

The Kreg Jig sounds like an easy way to do joints: I'd have to get everything from scratch though, cut wood (or buy a circular saw and DIY :S), put together, put hinges and doors, stain and varnish! Of course everything sounds easy in my head lah.... In my mind it's already completed :P

Anyway! I tried searching online and the Kreg Jig does not seem available locally, and I'd have to ship from Amazon, probably, via comgateway.

I'm thinking about getting the JR set, a right angle clamp and maybe a screw set too.

Shipping should be hefty, plus its a relatively big investment if in the end I lose interest midway :/ let's hope not!

Do you guys just use glue for joints?

JR set: http://www.amazon.com/Kreg-R3-Pocket-Hole-System/dp/B000J43A7W/ref=pd_cp_hi_2 <- this is the set I intend to get, it's quite basic at USD39, there's a more basic set but that's really not much.

If you look around amazon you can find the more complete set (K4) going for USD100!

Anyway I'm not sure if this is the right thread to post in (but since this is on woodwork...) so I'll post this again in the DIY club thread!

Just note that heavy electrical stuff from Amazon are all 110v and not Universal 110 to 240v type. So .. SAW, JIG, DRILL and such .. cannot buy from Amazon.

Yeah, I read about it recently on one of those DIY blogs, looks like a pretty useful tool.

gonna build an industrial bookshelf.

i just went to ban hin leong (?) at syed alwi to get some plywood. 2 pc 1ft x 2ft + 2 pc 1ft x 4ft = $16! the people there are very friendly too.

plywood finishing is still very rough, spent the better half of sunday to sand till its smooth. used 2 grades of sandpaper to smoothen it progressively.

anyone knows where to get plumbing pipes?

Hi everyone, I'm very new to this forum and to woodworking as well.

I'm interested to start woodworking as a hobby and have been watching a lot of youtube tutorials and recommendations.

Just wanna find out if anyone here is selling their handheld power tools cheap, like Random Orbit Sander, etc. and does anyone know where to get a relatively small lathe machine for home use?

Would like to start off small projects.
