hi, my lesson.

what i did during shopping for light.

1)shop around to look for nice light.

2)found the design i like than compare price.

3)i brought one design from A shop for living & dinning room. A shop also have same light that i like for bedroom but price slightly higher, so i never buy. Went to B shop to get light for my bedrooms.

A shop (intro by contractor)

B shop (i just walk in)

i tot i very clever to save little bit here and there. End up A shop give me better stuff like a better ballast. B shop ballest got no brand which it don last long. infact it look like used or recycle!

Now i buy light i will treat it like durian...ask them got bao jia bo? No good stuff i don want...plus price check is a must if u have the time.

I last Oct bought 3' T5 $18, 2' $15 from Joo Chiat for my house.

I've left the purchase of lighting to my electrician. PLC lights $28 each - double tube lights. T5 is $15 for 3 ft.

I will only go and shop for my designer type lights separately.

I recently bought lights (and kana CHOP like carrot) from this shop at Balestier, Singapore Lighting Mart Pte Ltd from this salesperson Addy.

I have total 22 PLC lights, he sold to me at $44.00 each!!! Somemore without the tube inside. The next day I went to another shop and saw the same model, the salesperson quoted me $18.00 each without tube. <img src="http://www.renotalk.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bangwall.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":bangwall:" border="0" alt="bangwall.gif" />

Not to mention all other lights in the kitchen/yard/balcony/bedroom/toilets...

cuz I saw another same light for my bedroom, the other shop price-tagged at $100+, but I bought for $290+... everything they sold me is MORE THEN DOUBLE!!! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/curse.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":curse:" border="0" alt="curse.gif" />

By the way, the T5 he quoted me $32.00 for 3ft, I bought from another shop @ $16.00!!!

This is the most expensive lesson I've learnt in my life. And the best thing is my ID (iM@ge Cre@tive) brought me there! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/bottom.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="8|" border="0" alt="bottom.gif" />

PLEASE remember do not even step into this black shop.<!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->

IF not earn what??

Very EXXXX...my advise is dun follow them to any shops (lightings or tiling). We buy ourselves and if kana also "bo bian". Next time asked around, this is very common already. The cheapest may not be in balestier. Same "tao kay"...

I always bought my lights at Jln Eunos. PLC only $13 only, with 2 nos. 13W energy saving tubes. Sori..

hey.where is the shop at Jln eunos? sounds good for $13 for a PLC :) can pm me? thanks!

Its very common that going to the shop recommend by the ID is defintely more expensive then going alone. It really depends on what you want. I work late alot and therefore , i dont have alot of time to monitor my renovation since its pretty far from my current house im staying.

I told my ID very striaght forward, you want to chop me , no problem but better make sure you do a god **** job well for my house renovation , else you wont get your rest of the 10 percent..lolz.

Me too... went with ID... bought 2 pair of LED light which cost in total $440... undertsand it should be dimmerable.. After all the light fitting... We then saw the switch is normal not dimmer. Telling our ID we will change the switch, he then tell us Singapore Lighting delivered normal LED. Called the shop, told us the price is just for noraml LED light, ask us to top up another $320 for exchange.... Cheating right??? is it true its cost so much???

I think most of the ID will bring their client to this shop as they can earn extra.... I now stuck as dun wish to pay addition and yet the contract charged me for installation of dimmer and relevant charges. ****

You may try http://ai-ledlight.com as they have LED T5 tubes 1ft to 5ft, I think.

Also LED PLC 4W to 14W, reasonable prices. :)

I went to Sembawang Lighting at Sembawang Road yesterday 5 may 2013. The prices of their lights & other products are not competitive. Infact their LED down light and ceiling fans are very expensive . I was served by a non chinese-speaking Asian lady. Some of the products which i thought was reasonable pricing ended up more expensive, when they added the gst at point of payment. I thought they were unethical in quoting me a price, but tagged on gst when i was about to pay. I ended up buying nothing from them & will never shop there anymore.

Hi everyone,

Well buy a lighting is simple but undertanding type of lighting its not simple. Today traditional lamp already goes off and vanishing, LED lighting is coming up but again there are many kind of led lighting from good quality to rock botton quality.

LED sound good to hear, many knows it energy efficiency but many do not know led also energy inefficiency if you do not know what kidn led you are buying.

LED must come with EN61347-2-13 safety requirement

LED lighting must have onboard active power factor correction

Power Factor must be >0.9

Current THD (Total Harmonics disturbance) <10% preferred must complied to EN61000-3-2

EMI compliance EN55015

The above are some of the requirement LED should and must come with it. Many china made sound cheap and good but it causes alot problems on power line because they unable to comply those mentioned above.

I use LED lighting at my home and i learn great deal about LED too, good stuffs does not come cheap.

I.E. Normally a PLC so called energy saving tube 25watts can be easily replace by good LED within 10watts

Those PLC may claim its energy saving but if you test it on power analyser it sucks in juice more then what its claims and honesty i am **** tired dealing with local lighting companies knows nothing abt lighting but pure trading and making money, not good support, generally most of the companies, but most talk like they knows the products in and out buy the don't....

These company Tecnik Singapore that i have purchased number of leds lighting really good quality, warranty abt 3-4years against manufacturing defects, designed in singapore, i also notice they involved marketing german and singapore jointly designed led products, they are good best of my knowledge, they do not sell for the sale of just trading, but they really work with passion with their customers.

This are the companies we should support with reasonable technical knowledge, they always talk abt Safety/quality/reliability and performance , their email is aenergy@singnet.com.sg they do response pretty fast too.

So those who been played out and over charge, please talk to these guys, seems their staffs are PhD guys, they are substance, email them and get to know them, seek their advice and tap their knowledge and more understanding in lighting.

These guys work with some known ID from europe.

Take care friends.

This is just a note to all to share my super bad experience I had with Hodaka Lighting shop located at Bendemeer. In my opinion this shop has no business ethics.

It started off with me requesting for spotlight with the case and rim all black. Yet when i checked the items, it was with silver rims. I rejected the goods. They told me there's not much difference from the one i wanted and that the whole of Singapore was out of stock for the one I wanted. Lucky enough, I found what I wanted at another store recommended by a friend.

2ndly, They over promised. On the same day of the spotlight, I bought few LED strip lights which adds up to almost 25m. The salesperson promised that I can get it in 4days time. Thus 4days later i went back to realised my items were not ready. They can even suggest to ask me make a trip back in the evening to collect. Guess what, I received a call in the evening from them that not all my strips are ready. Also asked if I want to collect those ready ones and they will send the last few to my place 2days later.

3rd, this is when I feel so cheated. Which is when the day all my LED strips arrived, I instructed my electrician to put them up without me being around. Came back to check on the lights, realised certain bulbs were spoilt, brought the strip down and I was shocked to see 2 different ribbon (one white & the other is yellow) being shouldered together. The white ones were the ones they showed me at the shop. Called the salesperson to asked if she knew about it and she replied cos not enough stock.

Confronted them and they can even argue to say that they forgot to call, scared I'm not around, and due to the lack of stock the gave me one that's more expensive. Now that my electrician has left I suggested that either I get my electrician to come back again and Hodaka pay extra cost, or they get their electrician to do it that day. They said I was being unreasonable and the earliest was a week later. (What kind of service is that?)

In the end, I insisted in the same day and if it did not happen, I'll get my electrician to bill them.

So to all of you out there, please beware of this shop!
