Due to the built in ballast on CFL, there will be a dark spot if one would to look up to the downlight. The advantage is no external ballast required. I'm too torn in choosing CFL or PLC downlights.

:) We bought our downlights finally. Downlights with High frequency ballast. Very expensive, compared to normal downlights, but we love the part that it's more cooling compared to the usual ballast. Got 2 yrs warranty for the EEI-A2 rated ballast from the shop too.

My friend told me, if u don't want electronic ballast, can go for low loss magnetic ballast...

Remember to ask if the downlight cables & connector are fire-resistance...i saw the demo for china-made cable & connector, catches fire easily. Think not safe.

Hi st002, how much was the downlight and where did you get it from?

I suggest switching to LED lighting as you can Go Green, save the Environment, Trendy, save Electricity by half and achieve the same brightness as CFL/PLC.

LED downlights will be the best in energy saving...:) bt will be abit painful when u first buy it...bt will save alot alot on electric bill:) i take PLC lightings for start due to cost and its energy saving also... LED uses abt 1-3w depending on number of bulbs in the downlight,PlC uses abt 13w per bulb... :) bought 10 PLC lightings at this warehouse for $25 inclusive of 2 bulbs sum more!!

$60 for the lamp is enough to buy LED downlight.

There are also new energy saving PLC bulbs which cost $8++ each.

Instant on, use 4 times less current, generate less heat,

lower energy consumption, and longer lifespan. The best part is that

they can be use on normal/old PLC lamp holder. It doesn't matter if you have the magnetic ballast inside your lamp housing. The power consumption is lower than conventional PLC lamps. You should see the demo at Havelock Road Blk 22; impressive.
