ABOUT THIS THREAD

While it may be titled "Living Room Inspiration", there are far more than just living room designs - you'll find inspiration for your bedroom and dining room as well. I started this thread some time ago as I was rather sick of the cookie-cutter designs that most interior designers in Singapore seem to offer their clients, and the little guidance they offer their clients in seeing the design concept from start, to end [i.e. furnishings].

You'll probably see that for most of my designs, the built-in components that I advocate are either kept to a minimum, or are designed to be visually non-obtrusive - that's because I believe that the quality of furniture tends to be better, and that they tend to define a room's purpose, hence they should be the key focal point of a room.

Do feel free to ask for advice, be it on this thread, or on my blog.

Dark colours, rich textures and simple lines that allude to the elegance of luxury hotels. This is the key to home that is both luxurious, yet not excessive, beautiful, yet not flamboyant.

And here's how it could be done, without renovations, without any significant built-ins, just furniture.

What do you guys think of white flooring vs darker flooring? Which looks better?

Depends on the mood you are trying to evoke, and also the wall colour.

Light flooring gives an airy feel, especially if it is coupled with light/white walls. This goes especially well with modern designer furniture, though it has a little bit of a showroom feel to it.

Dark flooring on the other hand gives a warmer feel, especially if its parquet. It matches well with traditional furniture, such as those country or classical designs. Alternatively, if done with white walls, it can also evoke a zen-like atmosphere, especially with minimal and earth tone furnishings.

TRADITIONAL HOME

Warm wood tones and eathy colours - all elements that contribute to a cozy and homely environment. Given that most of the pieces suggested in this lookbook are from Ikea, you don't have to burst the bank for this one.
