Anybody House Got Do Network Or Lan Points ?

Recommended Posts

Hi All

My ID's electrician quote me the prices for installation of 1 Nework/LAN Points

1) $45 - (I have to provide the LAN cable to them)

2) $85 - (Using Cat 5E cable)

I am asking my ID whether can change to Cat6 instead.

So is it ex for per LAN point ? Anyone house got do Lan Points ?

I wanted to have Gigabit LAN @ my home but decided against it.

If I am hosting a home server with many big contents for the rest of the house, I would need gigabit.

Since I would be mainly use for internet and the maximum speed of broadband in Singapore is still stuck in 100 mbps, what for? I can use wifi.

Even if they have faster connection (with opennet) i doubt the price would be cheap. And I would still be using the cheapest option and wifi would be good enough.

i did my 12 LAN points at home for my 4 room. each faceplate has 2 points, cost is 25$ per faceplace. total is 150$

I provide cabling and the K.O box, contractor provide pvc trunking and labour.

Cat 6 is thicker and harder to bend than Cat5e which is sufficient to carry 1 Gbps in house but no pc/laptop today can truly transmit 1gbps. max 200-300mbps.

so cat5e is more than enough.

in future, OpenNet will install fibre in your house and Nucleus Connect will provide 1gbps to your house.

I don't know where he bought it from.

4 points in the living room next to the opennet box to each room master, guest and playroom ( playroom 2x ).

He told me $200, but did not charge me at the end.
