Recommendation For A Decent Sound System.

Recommended Posts

Hi

Courts & harvey just sells mass produced hardware. Chances are, the salesmen knows nuts about AV stuff.

Point in contention was when someone in this forum claim that plasma is lousy technology, as an example. This info

was passed down from these salesmen. Of coz, this info is inaccurate.

Specialised shops allows u to demo your preferred AV set up in a proper audio room. And offer expert advice, even to novices.

As a paying customer, u must be well informed before making any purchases. Dont buy base on what the salesman tells u. Buy

only after u auditioned them.

Cheers

Yes you are very right. I went down Adelphi today. The sales staff were very knowledgeable about what they are selling.

The demonstration was valuable. It turned out that it is not always the more expensive set of speaker that suits my hearing.

I'm so glad I had listerned to your advice. :yamseng:

Thanks for the appreciation. You'll be one of my testimonial in this forum when it comes to AV purchases.

Previously, someone in this forum tried to sell a LG HTS for above $1.6K. I asked what so special about this

system. He said its "specially tuned by Mark levinson", whatever that means. This is a classic example of being

"fooled" my clever marketing gimmick. No disrespect to Mr Levinson, he's a great musician.

End of day, one must audition for themselves a HTS with a given budget.

Avoid HTiB unless you dont have a budget. In fact i would advise against HTiB, save the money & get a proper HTS

when youre better financially equipped.

Avoid Soundbars as well unless its for your bedroom.

Bro, what did u get for yourself?

Cheers

Bro

Your inbox is full.

My reply to u would be to top up the difference & get the velo or SVS sub.

The audio quality are miles apart. And if u cant appreciate it, let me offer to

buy it from u at cost. The resale value for these 2 brands are always stable.

Cheers

Drop by Aldephi today...went to KEC & get some demo & quotes.

Go with the suggested system here, Onkyo 608,Def tech pro cinema 800 & Velodyne CHT-8Q woofer. Played Avatar & overall experience was pretty good. But I was looking for smaller speakers...so guy suggested def tech 600.

he quoted me price for the 800 combo for $2787 while the 600 combo is $1601.

Walk around & saw another system that caught me eyes, at AV One shop, they were selling the Morel system. Cute looking speakers (hemisphere shape) & sub was also very curvy. I got a demo on the MT-1 system....sound great as well. Price was $3388,bundled with Onkyo 587.

Anybody has comments on the Morel sound system?

Is KEC the best option to get the Def tech combo?

So now am deciding....

Hi, did you mean you were quoted $1601 for [Onkyo TX-608 + Def Tech pro cinema 600 + Velodyne CHT-8Q]?

Sorry it kindof way too cheap that I cant believe my own eyes.

The quote is for speaker and woofer only right???

Or you have some sort of vip card ;)

Hi Vicenzo or anyone,

IF I was looking at B&W MT25 and I was considering a slight upgrade what would I start with?

Center speaker? to a higher model possibly HTM62

or

Sub? to the 610, or obviously PV1(significant price diff) or could you recommend a Velodyne or SVS sub that might work well with this setup

I ask only bcos I'm not sure if I have the space for 685,684 upwards hence considering Front/rears MT1s.

Thanks!

Not exactly sure abt the $1601 price that the guy quoted me...maybe for the speakers only...anyway took a look at the B&W website...saw those in build wall or ceiling speakers....looks cool to hide those for my small room space. Anyone has experience with such speakers?

- Are their sound being compromised greatly?

- Are they expensive?

- Which shops in Aldephi is more specialized in such speakers or B&W systems?

- price like?

Looks like I need to go down Aldephi again to checkout the "invisible" speakers option.
