Terrazzo Flooring And Modern Theme

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I will be getting keys to my resale flat soon and im still undecided on whether to lay laminate over the terrazzo floor. I want to change the flat nto a modern look. not sure if the terrazzo floor will blend in with the modern style furnitures (maybe white/off-white theme) and give a modern look or will the flat still look like its in the 80s. here, the photo of the flooring. any advise? thks

I say save some money, give the floor and nice polish and go for a modern vintage look.

A black and white theme probably wouldn't work well with that kind of flooring.

Browns, creams and taupes would probably work quite well. If you keep the lines of your furniture clean I think you can achieve that modern look.

olwong:

I love terrazzo. you do know that terrazzo feels cool, so it's great in our climate, and terrazzo is extremely expensive. if I had terrazzo flooring, I'd definitely keep it - and this is coming from a person who loves ultra-modern type of architecture/design.

keep the terrazzo, and then do up the rest of the house or the room to be very modern - that is, clean lines, maybe very white walls or with carefully chosen colours, use modern furniture, etc. you can try for a vintage 70s type with a very modern twist. I know I would!! it would be a waste to cover it up with laminate.

my heart bleeds a little when i see pictures of renotalkers hacking away their beautiful terrazzo flooring, only to replace them with bland white tiles!

Hi, olwong, so how is it going for your theme that goes with your flooring?

I love terrazzo too... Cooling and durable as mentioned above. Just bought a resale flat and intending to keep the terrazzo flooring. Have the same question here as TS (olwong) on themes that can go with terrazzo flooring. Any brothers and sisters here have any pictures to share your themes with this kind of floorings?

Thanks !

I'm afraid not. What's the colour of your furnitures?

I am also thinking hard what to do with the terrazzo flooring covering the living room and bedrooms.

To hack and lay homo or

To laminate over or

To use (then my idea of mininalist look may be compromised, my main colour theme is white)
