To Put Mirrors Or Not

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

my unit is a 3rm - 70sqm...thinking hard on how to make the LVR spacious...thinking of lining the LVR wall with mirrors like picture but not sure if maintenance of mirrors is going to kill me...don't wanna to be wiping mirrors every now and then...does anyone have experience with full wall mirror...or has better suggestions than having full wall mirrors...

I suggest not to put mirror as it is not good in Feng Shui. 3 RM no matter how it is still 3 RM, mirror will just cause confusion.

you have a few mirrors (maybe 1 big one), but too many will make the place look tacky.

one thing i've learned about maximising space with small apartments, go for low furnitures e.g. sofa, bed. Low furniture will make the ceiling look higher, and hence the room look bigger. Also, where possible, get furniture with no backing e.g. benches. Again, this makes the place seem bigger (however having no back means compromising on comfort, it's a trade-off).

hope this helps some.

one other thing, minimise doors. doors create an illusion of compartments, which makes the apartment look smaller.

instead, where possible, replace doors with curtains.

I would definitely install a large mirror to give you the illisuion of space. Even though it's just an illusion, it makes a big psychological difference, to me at least, as it helps eliminate any feeling of claustrophobia. Agree with the other suggestion about using low furniture too. Not a big fan of curtains being used to replace doors though. Not sure about the feng shui part, but I think it depends on where you place the mirrror

the key to make the place look bigger is to find a focal point to capture the attention, rather than seeing the whole picture, draw the eyes towards one point. Also make sure your ceilings are painted at a lighter colour than the walls. It's a misconception that walls must be very light to make the place look larger, deep colours MAY deepen the perspective and give the feeling of space.

using mirrors to enlarge a space does work, but not in all areas, the picture you had attached there makes me feel like i'm entering a dress shop rather than a home. I personally think mirrors should enhance a space, but it should be strategically installed rather than slap shot over a whole wall...

just my point of view...
