VERT 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2010 SINGAPORE - A person died in the fire that broke out at Block 31, Toa Payoh Lorong 6 last night, reported The Straits Times. The body was found in the living room of the ninth floor flat. The identity of the casualty is unknown as the body was so badly burnt that SCDF personnel could not determine if the body belonged to a male or female. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) received a call at about 7.20pm and dispatched three ambulances, a fire engine, a Red Rhino fire truck and two fire-fighting bikes to the scene. According to residents, there was also an explosion from the flat. It had apparently caused a blackout which affected some 200 flats in the block. As a result, many had to be evacuated from the one-room flats. The smoke had also caused breathing difficulties to the large population of elderly folk who lived at the block. SCDF is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
