Kitchen Furniture

Recommended Posts

Looking for good contractors? Click here for your request
I'm not sure where my topic should go so just post it here. Has anyone used the following kitchen furniture specialists? What are your reviews like ?

1) Kitchen Concept (Tecnocucina) - Made in Italy Assembled in Singapore - Offering solid surface tabletop (samsung brand, find it very weird i always thought Samsung make fridge and tv etc)

2) Interior Affairs (Pronorm) - Made in Germany Assembled in Germany - Offering Composite table table (i googled i think it meant quartz)

3) Classic Kitchen - Made in Eunos Assembled in Eunos - Offering Quartz Caesarstone table top (the only reason why i felt like avoiding Classic was that the salesperson kept shaking his legs making me giddy)

4) Your regular carpentry/contractor - Made in / Assembled in Singapore or Malaysia - Offering solid surface table top

If the price for 1 , 3 & 4 are very close, would you then naturally lean towards something that is imported (ie no1)?

No 2) was the most expensive maybe coz it's assembled in Germany so shipping ex.

I'm asking because i need to submit my proposal to the parents for funding but i can't cook (just learnt to use a rice cooker and i'm lost in the world of knobs or nobs, hoods (i think this is the vacuum sucker for the fumes), oven , steamer, microwave .... seriously i didn't know kitchens are so complicated) so i kinda need reviews.

I searched online but there seems to be not much kitchen specialist reviews in Singapore.

By the way, all the quotes i got have the same specs (ie high gloss arcylic doors in white) so i'm trying my best to compare apple with apple.

Thanks for your help.

aiya still doesn't solve my problem without a review....i'm living with them so i do the shortlist then like govt need to apply and get funding approve loh

You don't cook, you've only just learned how to boil rice and you haven't indicated that you intend to take cooking lessons, so it seems your kitchen's going to become a white elephant.....answer seems pretty clear.... go with whichever is cheapest. Don't buy an oven cos you'll probably never use it. get a microwave and a simple induction hob. Solid surface will be fine cos you probably wont do much work on the countertop and you'll be able to keep it looking as good as new for years to come. Dont waste your money on german products. As good as they are, you probably won't be able to appreciate them since yo dont do any cooking. Go with Japanese or Italian appliances instead.

In short, local contractor/carpenter to do your kitchen. Watch out for the acrylic cabinet doors though. They'll scratch easily if you knock or run anything hard against it. I'd suggest you go with the Formica 2mm high gloss laminate instead. cheers and good luch

I'm the only one in the family that doesn't cook but unfortunately i'm also the only one that is in town to work on the house. Everyone else is station in other countries.

MIL likes to bake (those that bake every 2-3days and baking marathon during festive seasons and she wants proper kitchen.

FIL likes to cook chinese and peranakan food so wet kitchen for him so no induction cooker and he wants cheap cheap kitchen coz used to kampung lifestyle.

BF likes to grille and entertain at home and he wants pretty kitchen

I only know how to eat and wash so the microwave and tap/sink is for me.

So ya, i seen the highest end but it seems impossible to see a sample by local contractors.

From above, you already got the "answer", "reviews" won't work.

Oven - Gaggenau

Wet kitchen - brick and tile counter with those huge portable double gas hobs. Big fire and cheap.

Dry kitchen - interior Affairs does lovely kitchens at 29 Tai Seng Ave

Get dishwasher for yourself?

Ya interior affairs is expensive but meeting them for looking through the quotes this sat

the dry kitchen with bricks and tiles was what my grandma use in the current house that we tore down lah....,hahahahah...also included were those charcoal stoves from chinatown to make soup. These portable double gas hobs last a lifetime...never seen her change in once 28yr of my life. Super ugly but idiot proof coz Indon, filipino maids all know how to use.

Hmmm...i wonder how much is a dishwasher...maybe this weekend i go check out.

Any updates? Interested to know whether you managed to get the quote from interior affairs revised to be closer to the local ones.

Gaggenau ovens would cost a bomb I believe. If budget is smaller, De Detrich and Brandt are also known for their ovens. One thing to consider is whether your MIL is comfortable with those ovens with lots of features with electronic controls, or she prefers the more basic and traditional knobs-type manual controls.

Interior affairs lowest was still 30k, 10k more than Tecnocucina so i guess quite clear to stick with Tecnocucina who said they'll still go down somemore. Guess no need to look at local contractors anymore

For kitchen, I would still go with Interior Affairs if I wanted a European style kitchen. That's because the kitchen is a heavy duty usage (if someone in your family cooks everyday). A poorly designed kitchen made with sub-par materials means more work and more hassle later.

I had a friend who was recommended a local contractor. Her kitchen was nice for 1 month. After that, drawers started to warp badly. Given the humidity in our climate, the wood has to be really well treated and of good quality or else, you may end up having to redo the kitchen within 2 years. That'll cost more.

hi pantieileen

just like to check in and see if you've made the selection and how was your experience with Tecnocucina? We spent some time talking to the guy and found him quite experienced.

We're looking at Dry Kitchen only.

Interior Affairs - spoke with them too, but found them unresponsive and not very responsible. Been a month and yet to hear from them. But their kitchen looks good

Kitchen Habits - make in Msia assembled in Singapore. Let's see what they come up with

Hoffen - uses medium denisity board (?). They do more project work

Hugo Kitchen - can't afford. Their entry level with laminates and no fancy stuff is already @ 40K. 1-2x higher than the others man !

Vivant - just above Hugo. A shop alluded that Vivant was trying to imitate them.

Would be grateful if you can share with us your experience.

Thanks

Cheers

SS
