$4800 For This Simple Job? Is It Worth It?

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone, I have a question and I hope you can help me clear my doubts

I was told by the contractor that hacking of the wall cost me $1500...ok reasonable...go ahead.

He bought me a stainless steel sink....$350.....ok reasonable...go ahead.

but today i was told the total bill for my works cost me $4800. After deducting the above, I was charged $2950 for following

1) add 2" of cement on the floor to create leverage for the kitchen cupboards to be placed later and add "solid surface" to the side of the cement.

2) adding a cement table to put the sink

3) connecting the water pipes from the mains and drainage to the sink.

4) touch up with cement for the ceiling and side walls from the hacking

5) Rewiring 1 switch to another wall

Total time taken was 3 days.

Here is a photo....was the job worth $2950? Sorry to be ignorant but i have a feeling i was being over charged.

This is the items he listed in the quotation. He said the hacking is expensive because the new hdb walls have steel rods in the walls which is more difficult to hack compare to old had flats where you just use the hammer to whack. The whole hacking took one day.

6) Supply Labour & material to lay water pipe (inlet) and PVC outlet pipe } $350

7) Reposition of 1 switch in kitchen and wiring of water heater } $250

8) Patch Up floor titles and wall tiles } $400

Is this price reasonable or can I ask for more discount?
