Carpentry Work For My Masterbed Room

Recommended Posts

The carpenters came today to fix up their shoddy work. Guess what? It's still incomplete!

They wanted to stick the TV console laminate with joining, my hubby refused. How could they even wanted to do that? It's so ugly! :(

Then, they didn't replace the doors which they wrongly screw the handles. They just fixed back the same old door!!! :furious:

And no shelving for the cabinet that was suppose to have in the first place!

And when my hubby asked them to put in the wire ring for the TV cable, they said no way. They already cut an ugly squarish hole and it's good enough. What the rubbish is this? :argue:

And the rack? Oh they just tighten the clip and that's all. Surely it will just come off after a while.. :curse:

I SMS the ID to request him to come and supervise for once. But never turn up either. :fire:

Well, maybe I should just keep the balance 50% and get another carpenter to do up the rest of the work.

What do you guys think? :dunno:

After rectifying their work last Saturday and Monday, everything seems ok. Yesterday the electrician came and finish up his work, punctual as usual.

After a day of thorough cleanup, I put in some of the stuff and this is what they made for my DVD shelf.

When I checked it was ok. But when I wanted to put in the DVD player, I noticed something behind the shelf and pull it off, the shelf collapsed. The supports are way out for the shelf to sit on top.

Shelf collapsed and the studs fell off.

And my, look at the quality they are supplying! No PVC laminates at the side and the shelf is really out of dimension.

I really cannot imagine this type of carpenters exist. Such a lousy workmanship and quality.

H-r L- carpenters from Malaysia, sucks!

And look at the opening for the TV cables. My hubby requested the wire ring but was argue back that they don't provide. Huh? Call yourself a carpenter? The opening is so badly saw and can easily cut our hands. All this while, my ID is was never here to supervise. :dunno:

Look at below photo from my Family Room TV console. I don't even have to say or ask for anything. The carpenter from D-rw-- automatically provide the wire ring and even smart enough to leave a gap behind the divider. This allow me to put my X-box in the next door and the cables can be connect to my TV. Just some common sense lah!

Sigh! Just my luck! Every time I open the closet and cabinets. I just sigh! Everywhere "Ta Kuo Yo" (paste plaster).

Horrible workmanship!

Some more the carpenter dare to chase payment from me directly bypassing my ID.

Hi all, has been a month since I last log in. Finally, the work just over not without lots of hiccups...

And my bedside drawers are without PVC laminates. Look at how they laminate after my request. I really can't believe it!

The ID came and requested the drawers to be replace entirely as the scratches are too obvious plus 2 drawers dimension are wrong.

After waiting a week later and so many rectification, they couldn't get the drawer to close by itself. The soft closing dented. :-(

I ended up guiding the carpenter to re-adjust the soft closing track because of misalignment. And after following my instructions, finally all are done.

Honestly, with so many problem, I'm wondering how long the cabinets can last in this condition. Really afraid it might spoilt any time. Sigh!

THE REVEAL...

Finally, finally. It's been almost 3 months since the start of carpentry work for my masterbed room. Not only we have to tolerate the dust, the cleaning up, the inconvenience, the smell and messiness. We have to do almost all the liasing, the coordinating, the sourcing and even advising the carpenter. What actually is a simple job turns out to be a total nightmare. The ID sourced his carpenter in Malaysia who came and took the measurements. He was unable to get the job done, he sub to another contractor who seems to me was a new startup.

I highlighted some basic requirements that are not met such as PVC laminates, adjustable shelfing, thickness of the drawers, etc. I was told many times. "This is the standard we provide unless you specifically requested."

My goodness! I have never requested anything from all my experience in carpentry works and these are actually the basic stuff provided by all my previous carpenters. I can only say to the carpenter, "Your standard does not meet the standard here in Singapore. And I don't think your Malaysia clients are happy with your standard either. Because there are completely NO STANDARD to your workmanship and to your materials!"

So to all out there reading this. If you ever sign any reno contract, do remember to add in this important clause. That is always demand compensation on any delays.

Have a great week ahead!
