Correct, polishing should be fine but not grinding for ceramic as the ceramic tiles will be scratched

Actually if the skirting itself are tiles you can polish them too using hand polishers which are widely available

No they are not, porcelain from i know have a higher density from what i remember what one contractor had told me before
