How Long Can Wall And Ceiling Plastering Last?

Recommended Posts

We had the whole house plastered. After 2.5 yrs started to show cracks and some areas popped out. Can we just replaster over the cracked areas or need to scrap out whole wall n ceiling before replastering?

You can for small patches. Plastering is comestic, like putting powder on face. The interior structure is usually not affected unless your wall are drywall board.

For drywall board, if there is a big hole, you need to buy small piece of drywall board, cut and paste back with wire. Then buy plaster and smooth it.

Is there moisture or wet area on the plastered wall causing pop-out? Is it coming from exterior(Eg : Rain) or interior? Was the plastered wall seal/primed?

Many diy store or paint store sell canned plaster/plastering compound. 5 litre about $8-10.

seems that plastering does not last.

my house's walls and ceiling will be plastered as they are rockstone textured.

Was told that sealer is not nec, Now I'm unsure how true is it...

Wall cracks, moulds , etc are sometimes inevitable after plastering, or erecting a new hollow block wall with cement.
It is not necessary due to the quality of the plastering or workmanship. Have to consider other factors like building movements, age of the building, wear and tear in the facade of the building.

How's your plastering now? Still ok after so many years? Especially the bathroom ceiling plaster?
